Sounds like Boomer has you all in a twist this morning.

Who knows who it could be. 90% of the options listed are invalid by his responses. He said unlikely NYR trade with Boston and NYI, so that scratches Martin and Marchand.

I will rule out Kadri for you.

Think of it this way: it would be like the Rangers trading Stepan for a middle 6 UFA winger. How well would that fly? Not well, I think. Except, our Center situation is even worse then yours. Theres no chance Nonis deals Kadri for a much older, expiring contract winger.

Although I do like the idea of you guys acquiring Gallagher. Hes a major pain and always lights up the Leafs. I want him on our team, and I think it'd be a great trade for you guys.

I have a feeling its St.Louis Just a gut feeling

Why would the NYR fan base be upset with getting last years top scorer for a guy that is walking in the offseason anyway? Because we'd miss out on a younger scrub like Stewart? This doesn't seem to fit how strongly he believes the negative reaction is going to be.

MSL makes no sense from Tampa's side. Stamkos is coming back soon, those two are magic together, and Tampa is a top team in the east.

Would love Gallagher.

because my guess is he feels the fan base wants to take Callahan and turn him into a young asset, not a 38 year old winger. me? id rather show Callahan that his greediness is not going to allow him to finish what he was a part of starting and go deep into the playoffs with a second offensive weapon like St. Louis.

Gallagher could fit the bill. He scored at a first line clip last year, but he is small and unknown to most NYR fans. Tons of heart and skill though - a less skilled but slightly bigger version of Zucc.

When has an impending UFA ever garnered a tremendous 1 for 1 upgrade? Why would boomer mention 4 times that the fan base would not be initially happy with a freaking tremendous upgrade? Including once to a Cally hater, telling her she's not going to be happy with the return. Why would a conditional pick be assumed to be coming our way on a tremendous upgrade, in return for a UFA with unrealistic market demands? When asked about skill or grit he said probably both, there's some hesitation there, so the player doesn't sound overwhelming, but solid two way.

Any center is first line talent on this team.

Why does this have to be a trade that makes sense in a vacuum? Just because rentals don't normally return a "tremendous upgrade" does not mean they never will, if the circumstances were correct for such a return.

How do you know the tweeter was a Cally hater? The last tweet he made last night said that we are a passionate fanbase, it will be a debatable move. Obviously not everyone will like it, not matter what it is. A tremendous upgrade could be a rental, or someone aging. A lot of people here were hoping the Cally return would be a young player, or a prospect, or a high pick, or a mix of those. An older guy, no matter how good, would irk some people.

The conditional pick would not be coming to the Rangers.

How is saying both hesitation? Why would a mediocre player like Brooks Laich be shocking or surprising?

This is exactly why he said some people will not like this trade. St. Louis is a perfect example of a player we'd all love to have, but maybe not for the price of Callahan because of the expectation that if they traded him, it would be for someone younger, and not a rental.

An expectation we could never count on with Sather at the helm.

I can't remember the last time a UFA of Cally's calibre brought back any real young asset as a rental alone, as Boomer has implied it doesn't seem likely Callahan will resign with the team as evident by his post that he believes Cally will be signing in Buffalo this offseason, so I am just hoping for someone that can contribute well and we can also let walk in due time.

Adding a guy that can finish out his contract as a point producing difference maker for us is not the kind of return I'd assume boomer would think we'd be unhappy with.

In a vacuum it makes no sense. What if there were other conditions factoring in to the potential trade?

See this is the difference between the suggestion that it is MSL, versus someone like Ott or Clarkson. MSL only doesn't make sense because under normal circumstances, why would Tampa ever make that trade? They wouldn't. However other than that MSL fit every tweet Boomer has made.

my point exactly. why would we give up our captain for an enigmatic Stewart or a prospect that may or not ever make the team? we aren't rebuilding....we just aren't willing to pay a 3rd line player 8 million a year. so, if you can get an actual asset like St. Louis, you do it.

As you can see, i don't post here alot, but i had to jump in when i saw the conversation regarding MSL. I know someone close to one of the sides that heard about a week ago that its really close to getting done.

Thank you! I was hoping you'd come back. You're the guy who posted about the guy at work who skates with him in the off-season, correct?

i don't see how STL gets dealt, TBay is doing well as is. Plus Cally Is a UFA

So its an East team, gritty player............this is ridiculous

no, my friend, that wasn't me. although, the guy i know does skate with him . ...how ironic is that lol. I wonder if there is another coworker on these boards!!! when he brought the trade up i thought it was really odd, but then when i saw boomer and a couple of ppl bringing up MSL, i thought "where there's smoke , there is fire!"

Did you guys ever think some of the responses he threw out were a bit of misdirection?

Sure, but why does he do that?

He called the last trade, why would he lie about this one? Honestly the only reason he isn't calling this one now is probably because of the roster freeze and the official word it is a done deal.

thats my confusion with the whole thing....the trade doesnt make sense from TAMPA's POV. Another Sather Jedi mind trick?

Oh okay, that is pretty odd!

Well either way this seems to add even more suggestion it could actually be for MSL. Thanks for the input.

Didn't he say that it's a player we hate? MSL is like the most likeable player in the league.
