Think Boomer's referring to the expected initial reaction many might have, just from years of trauma as Ranger fans, trading the younger & popular Cally and bringing in a 38-yr old midget LOL;

then he says they'll be much debate because it takes some time to hash thru the logic. But from the NYR perspective - and especially considering this fix they're in with Cally - it's quite logical!

Ive already gotten some emails from guys I totally respect; and they hate it at first blush! but as they work thru it I think they'll see the wisdom.

Just gotta remember, Rangers come at this from a compromised position to start. So it's kinda unconventional, but it can definitely work.
We already dont bodycheck anyone anymore (excepting Kreider), so there goes the last of it with Cally.
Still wish we had a killer. We are tiny-small, no getting around that.

I call BS on that. You don't watch Rangers games if that is your conclusion.

it's funny checking some other boards and they havent even mentioned MStL yet, though they went thru just about everyone else;

I never saw that Marty tweet until later;

but once you see it its like, how much clearer could Boomer make it?

Boomer is crossing a lot of names of the list, but he apparently don't know who it is, or? He seems to say that in one tweet. I don't get that.

I mean, I get that he can get info on a no name basis. But how can he the. Be sure that it's not this and that player?

oooh, a little elbow LOL; Ok, well, they do hit, just never enough for me, and miles from where they were a few years ago; but its a different team, totally different style; I luv the way they play for the most part. But the physicality part heading into POs worries me a lot.
and no, I dont watch games, at least none before 1972.

ive barely missed one since though :)

No, just me making an accurate observation. I mean, they are not the most physical team, nor the least. MSG is extremely liberal in awarding hits, and I never cared about those stats. I go by what I see.

What's the general consensus elsewhere?

A lot of people are just throwing out the same names, or they havent gone thru point by point Boomer's tweets, so they're still thinking western teams, etc.

They dont have the chart is the problem! haha...
Nah, some of them just dont pay it much mind either.

I normally wouldnt go crazy over a tweet either, but Boomer's a responsible guy with this kind of stuff and definitely wired in and definitely wanted it out there. So did the people who told him LOL.

So its not an accident.

Its Clarkson:laugh: MSL seems like the biggest pipe dream. Its Callahan FFS

Yup, the only way to be. They responsibly take the body most times. Ill say that much. And Klein and Carcillo have given them some stiffness they needed.

But heaven's, its natural to get a bit concerned when out of your Top 9, Richards, Hagelin, Zuccarello and now (maybe) MSL are in there, and Nash and Step hit no one.

That was always my favorite part of Cally's game. He hit to hurt, with everything he had.
With Dorsett back I suppose they'll just have barely enough.
Puliot's got to stay involved, and Kreider needs to get back to destroying people. He really set a tone, and hasnt been the same since he got tossed against CB on that ridiculous call;
Moore's spunky and Boyle is Boyle, sometimes on, some off;
but Top 9, cant say we're scaring anybody physically.

That's totally A-OK if it means winning.

I'll add more fuel to the fire... sheer conjecture but Boomer's an avid golfer... a certain NY Ranger player is as well... it wouldn't be unlikely possibility that they've played at the same clubs... that Ranger player has ties to MSL. Great dude too, very well respected by those he has ties to.

If this team is sporting 3 scoring lines, having them all fire on all cylinders is a good thing.

I am leaning and hoping its MSL. Guy has a ton of heart and an absolutely non-stop motor. A leader, a warrior, and a scoring champion as of last year.

Better yet is the possibility of recruiting Dan Boyle as UFA on a Sergei Gonchar type contract. I for one am expecting San Jose to flame out once again.

LOL @ people saying Clarkson. Worse contract, worse player, worse press, etc.

Looking at gritty players more skilled than Callahan, that for some reason that don't stick out might be available, Franzen fits the bill a bit better than most others. Natrually granted that the conditioned mentioned aren't wrong which seem to be the most likely option.

But, while it seems really really far fetched, Detroits core is starting to fall apart a bit with injuries, and Franzen is having a lot of problems. Callahan has 3-4 real work horse years infront of him. He could take more load of Z and Dats than Franzen. Detroit has cap space available.

Who else is gritty and a top line upgrade?

I dont believe, but can't come up with a better option. Maybe Kadri in Toronto.

BTW, for us joining late it would be very helpful with a link to some summary of the tweets.

This doesn't make sense.... Boomer says Callahan will be traded as a Rental and will most likely sign with Buffalo as a free agent, yet he says the only thing that 'upends' the trade/deal is if Callahan changes his mind about $$$ ????

What is there for him to change his mind about if he's being traded as a Rental who will test Free Agency????

Why are you guys going on about St. Louis anyway? WHY would they trade him for Callahan just as Stamkos is getting ready to return? Use some common sense here....

To the first question: If Callahan changes his mind about money to stay with NYR.

To the second: You obviously didn't read the whole thread.

Nor did a few other people coming in here late and saying the same stuff that has already been said for 5 pages and then otherwise shown to be incorrect.

tampa aint trading marty the marty talk is about brodeur retiring he has two golds lol.

Is brooks laich I believe.

That way you can buy out richards if he has a good end to season.

You are probably right about the first part, but not the second. Where in his tweet does it indicate the "Marty, Marty, Marty" refers to Broduer retiring?

Also Brooks Laich so we can buy out Richards? LOL. Man, yeah, that totally makes sense given everything else said here in the past 12 hours.

Again for all the people coming in late:

There was a rumor posted about MSL by someone who claimed to know someone who skated with him in the off-season. I will not re-post the details because it was deleted by mods so they obviously do not want it to be seen a legitimate, however just an hour later this whole Boomer thing breaks, and suddenly the MSL rumor doesn't seem so crazy any more.

Oh, and the poster said it would be MSL for Cally/pick.

It's hopefully not Ott, great piece in the pre-cap era but not with a salary cap unless you have a lot of underpaid stars to surround him with. His intangibles come at too great a price.

I'm glad it looks like it isn't Chris "Benoit Pouliot with a better shot but 3x the cap hit" Stewart. Though I'd argue that Pouliot is actually the more well-rounded player, Stewart does nothing outside of his inconsistent scoring.

That would be seriously crazy. How many years does MSL have left on his contract?

We'd have by far the most skilled RW corps in the cap era if that trade went through: Nash, MSL, and Zuccarello. Wow!

E: MSL has one more year left on his deal.

This equation equals Daniel Briere. Unfortunately.
