looking at all of boomer's hints, ive concluded it just has to be st.louis, all of the other guys mentioned ott, simmonds, neill dont fit, first of all they are not ''tremendous' as boomer wrote, and they hardly qualify as being a ''shocking'' trade as boomer puts it. st.louis fits all the categories

How does MSL fit "gritty"?

Two days ago he essentially says it, that "Marty" tweet could mean little else, no? Now today he's nibbling cause a thousand crazed fans are asking LOL;

But what seals it for me is, like I said, it was well-known last year we were after Marty St Louis. And things have only gotten worse for MSL in TB this year.

God knows Ive had my differences with Sather.
But he's a freakin' madman orchestrating this.
Like I said, I see it even working out very well in the long run.

I remember hating on him pretty good that night LOL;

think that's what Boomer meant talking about Carcillo too;
a guy you hate when he's effective against you.
St Louis' too cool to hate; too much of a phenomenal underdog story.

In fact, I gotta check. Was he drafted? or a 9th rounder, back when they had 9 rounds.?? Yup, undrafted, signed by Calgary.

I wouldn't go that far.. Not sure as other's have stated two pretty valid points that don't fit MSL.

1. Not sure he falls into anyone's "hated" category..

2. Wouldn't really consider him "gritty", more of a skill guy IMO..

This doesn't make sense.... Boomer says Callahan will be traded as a Rental and will most likely sign with Buffalo as a free agent, yet he says the only thing that 'upends' the trade/deal is if Callahan changes his mind about $$$ ????

Well, what could in theory 'upend' the deal "as presently agreed to" is if Callahan inked a long-term deal with TB.

Im sure if talks are to this stage, theyve spoken to Bartlett about it.
In that case it might involve a conditional pick or other pieces.
But could it blow it up? IDK, sounds pretty far along.

and id consider MSL gritty along the lines of Zuc, but better haha.
he's done it longer, as a known quantity. Thats pretty gritty.

Just a refresher on the tweets.. If MSL,

1.why the response:

"I think you won't be happy" regarding the incoming player.. Who wouldn't be happy acquiring MSL?

2. No way you lump MSL and Carcillo into the same reference as :

"if he ain't wearing a NYR jersey, I can't stand him, think Carcillo.." (Edit) Nevermind, this is in reference to the way he feels about Ott..

To me, just doesn't sound like a MSL type of player Boomer is referring to...

Dunno why Boston would move him.

Simmonds? That would be a good return on Cally... though I shudder at the thought of him playing for Philly.

There are other guys like Troy Brower and Joffrey Lupul that are lower tier options. Would prefer MaxPac, Skinner but if teams were to trade pieces like that, they would get a much bigger return than Cally.

How about Eric Staal?

His game has really settled in since his $8.5M signing. Rangers would have a reason to re-sign Marc and possibly add Jordan to the equation later.

Carolina is one of those places where the standard of living is very high, guys can get comfy down there... a lot players they re-signed have. Gleason being the latest. Carolina's got four of their biggest contracts not living up to their salary.. Both Staals, Ward and Semin count for ~$28M, add in Skinner at $5M, and you are guaranteed poor depth as bottom line players would have to be on cheap contracts, and a terrible defense. There isn't any way around that for them.

If a team like that can't scout, draft and develop well... well Carolina's seen the results already. Maybe they could use a player that is all out every game as their new captain.

Carolina has made the playoff once since Eric Staal got off his ELC. Franchise has committed $70M to him since they won the cup, and have post season appearance.

Good post on Staal, Mikos. I'd thought of him a while back; you know Sather would luv a big center, every team would.

I'd tend to doubt it, Cally would have to agree to a new deal there which I dont think he will anywhere. and I dont know Staal fits Boomer's 'hated' tweet, if he in fact said that.

The only thing Staal ever did to us was crack his own brother LOL.

Eric Staal COULD be that #1C that we've been looking for... but that is some serious caphit right there. we'd have to be sending 2 players, and CAR would have to be holding at least 4-5M in salary for the rest of the year

EDIT: Didn't realize we had $6M in cap space. ****, sending Asham, Powe, and retiring biron saved us a ton of cap i suppose.

then he says they'll be much debate because it takes some time to hash thru the logic. But from the NYR perspective - and especially considering this fix they're in with Cally - it's quite logical!

Ive already gotten some emails from guys I totally respect; and they hate it at first blush! but as they work thru it I think they'll see the wisdom.

Just gotta remember, Rangers come at this from a compromised position to start. So it's kinda unconventional, but it can definitely work.
We already dont bodycheck anyone anymore (excepting Kreider), so there goes the last of it with Cally.

I don't know... Being as hardcore as they come I completely understand the move. Most here have been expecting (moving towards acceptance anyway) of a Chris Stewart type deal. Worst case scenario being dumping him at the end of his contract should his game not improve much after the next couple of seasons. So I'm not sure there would be much grumbling about acquiring a proven commodity instead of a possible project, at least from my perspective anyway. I know it doesn't make us any younger, but it's a low risk, possibly high reward situation going forward for the next couple season's IMO..That is if it's actually MSL we're trading for lol
