Buffalo is a team that spoke to Cally's agent, told him that they will offer him 7 yr $47M as a free agent but will not be trading for him.

The trade would be terrible for the Rangers. I'd rather have Cally at 6.8 than Clarkson on his 5M deal. A good third liner can bring everything Clarkson can.
The only reason he hit 30 was because he was DeBoar's boy, and he gave him a ton of PP time with Kovalchuk. If Benoit Pouliot of the last two months was a tough guy, you would have equal value to Clarkson.

I think you might be right. When I saw Kreiders chart (awesome) and saw the Q and A side by side. I read it as boomer saying he wouldn't like Ott if he wasn't on the team, think carcillo
Based on what Boomer said; top 6 and an upgrade....it cant be clarkson or ott unless boomer has really lost his touch.

People were reading in to the Ott question completely out of context, and it was misleading. I don't think we should be gleaning the player in question being traded for is someone we have or will hate. His response was specifically about Ott.
I don't have a great guess, but MSL still fits the profile better than any of the other suggestions, and while it makes zero sense from our perspectives having limited insight, that doesn't mean something else is not going on we don't know about. The MSL rumor earlier at least gives a motive, even if it is not a great source. Maybe the way he was handled during the entire Olympics was enough to say "**** you" to Steve Y. All speculation, but what good reason would Tampa have to trade him as many others have already astutely pointed out?
Regardless, no one has suggested anyone else that fits the profile, and does make sense. Then again, how often does trading first line talent within the conference for a 3rd RW rental make sense?

Yeah that sounded like Boomer's thoughts on Ott. Ott, Carcillo, Marchand, Clarkson are rats. Guys like that generate a lot of buzz, but none a upgrades.
My gut tells me the Rangers are looking for a big center. Maybe Spezza from OTT who has been somewhat disenfranchised for the last couple of seasons.
Lets not forget OTT has seen what they can do without him last year, and fans in OTT have had their pitchforks directed at him. Kyle Turris plays with their best wingers, not Spezza.
OTT needs salary relief in a bad way. They won't be re-signing Spezza after next year.

I hate to quibble, but Marchand would be an upgrade.
The thought of Spezza is very interesting. Myself, I would not want Spezza, but if can think of a team in the East who wants to move pieces, Ottawa comes to mind. Bryan Murray likes to trade.

I would be ecstatic if it was MSL. For all the controversy that came from the snub, MSL is playing in the Olympic Gold Medal game a few hours from now.
It could be that MSL wants to be closer to his family. They live in CT. MSL is in CT every off season. That is the shock right there.
