1. MSL makes no sense to me at all, from a Tampa Bay perspective even less so.

2. No way Clarkson is a second liner with more offensive upside. The guy scores most of his goals on the PP in front of the net. Doesn't fit AV's system 5 V 5....Only thing he has more of is grit, not Clarkson, guaranteed.

Still think Philly makes the most sense, Simmonds or possibly Hartnell. No way he could disclose the team, even if someone asked the right question..

Hartnell doesn't fit. Flyers have Voracek, Simmonds, and Read on RW, they wouldn't need Callahan unless moving one of them.

Which team is stupid enough to give a young, gritty, skilled, 1st line player, signed for multiple years for a rental 3rd liner on the Rangers?

AV would have flash backs back to that SCF with the B's and bench Horton lol

Although he would make sense too gritty and skilled, risky, I don't know many Rangers fans that hate him tho

I was just thinking since he seemed to fit many things and maybe we don't like him because he's had playoff success against us as a Bruin? Maybe Boomer just really hates every non Ranger?

Horton specifically wanted to play for the Blue Jackets (plus is better than Callahan).

I do see he has a NMC through 2016-2017 but I don't remember that.

Thats the real problem, Boomer labeled him as hated... but everyone has a different opinion on hated.

I seem to remember Clarkson having some big games at the Garden. Could be wrong there, but Sather luvs that *****.
Gaborik lit us up and he signed him asap. Gomez too.

I view Cally & Clarkson as pretty similar players. 20-something goal guys with grit, each has his drawbacks.
IF Toronto is picking up some bread, he's signed, which is the deciding factor here;
Cally wants Clarkson money and he's not worth it either LOL.

But he'd definitely fall into the 'risk' category.
The guy I like from the Leafs is Lupul.
Who knows. Boomer got everybody going haha....

He says people are going to go nuts on twitter if the deal gets done, but I think a lot of us Rangers fans are already expecting Cally to get traded, so I'm suspecting this rumor he heard does not relate to Cally.

im guessing its Tuomo Ruutu

Now that would be a disaster.

And lemme be clear on one thing; Cally v. Clarkson, it's Cally any day of the week for me. he is the better player.

Both guys healthy, in their prime, signed; But not all of that is true right now. So imperfect situation, I expect an imperfect result.

We are expecting Cally to be traded. People going nuts on twitter might refer to the return.

Hartnell doesn't fit. Flyers have Voracek, Simmonds, and Read on RW, they wouldn't need Callahan unless moving one of them.

Simmonds? That would be a good return on Cally... though I shudder at the thought of him playing for Philly.

There are other guys like Troy Brower and Joffrey Lupul that are lower tier options. Would prefer MaxPac, Skinner but if teams were to trade pieces like that, they would get a much bigger return than Cally.

How about Eric Staal?

His game has really settled in since his $8.5M signing. Rangers would have a reason to re-sign Marc and possibly add Jordan to the equation later.

Carolina is one of those places where the standard of living is very high, guys can get comfy down there... a lot players they re-signed have. Gleason being the latest. Carolina's got four of their biggest contracts not living up to their salary.. Both Staals, Ward and Semin count for ~$28M, add in Skinner at $5M, and you are guaranteed poor depth as bottom line players would have to be on cheap contracts, and a terrible defense. There isn't any way around that for them.

If a team like that can't scout, draft and develop well... well Carolina's seen the results already. Maybe they could use a player that is all out every game as their new captain.

Carolina has made the playoff once since Eric Staal got off his ELC. Franchise has committed $70M to him since they won the cup, and have post season appearance.

Greening? He played with Spezza on the 'first' line a few years ago. Does that count? :sarcasm:

Just checked tomorrow's NY Times, and when you see their top hockey story is this AP one about Buffalo, "Construction of the $172 million HarborCenter, a hockey and entertainment complex, has the city hoping to become a sports destination", it could lend some perspective.

If the Sabres determine they need a centerpiece for all this economic development, they're going to slap $60-70m on the table for their blue collar, (relatively) hometown guy. And Cally'd be gone.
90-95% of the time, free agents in any sport take the most money. Fact of life.

So getting any quality return makes good sense, especially a similar player. And life will go on....

Clarkson would be a lateral move at best. A downgrade in my opinion.

Marchand would be a great addition. A pest you love only if he's on your team, and skill to boot.

Good post on Staal, Mikos. I'd thought of him a while back; you know Sather would luv a big center, every team would.

I'd tend to doubt it, Cally would have to agree to a new deal there which I dont think he will anywhere. and I dont know Staal fits Boomer's 'hated' tweet, if he in fact said that.

The only thing Staal ever did to us was crack his own brother LOL.

Don't see what he could get us that would inspire people to go nuts though. He also said its a 1 for 1 deal so who could possibly come back? Would Marchand or Hartnell really have that kind of effect?

Marchand is signed to a relatively inexpensive contract until 2017. I wouldn't mind that at all for a player like him, but I don't think Boston does that anyway.

Boomer said a first line upgrade. If what he's talking about holds some water, it has to make you wonder.

Did Boomer really say 1st line upgrade? For whom?!!!

we're not getting anyone better than Nash or Kreider.

it'd be an upgrade for the Leafs if its for Clarkson LOL;

Id feel a lot better accepting that deal if Tyler Biggs was included.
Rangers have supposedly been tracking him since we missed out on drafting him. The Marlies have him on a checking line so his points are down, but he's huge & hammers people, and he's got some sick skill.

They're obviously trading for the Yellow King. All the clues are there.
