Pens fan coming in peace, i follow Boomer, with all the clues about a team in the east, a deal about money, Carcillo, a player you hate.

I came up with David Clarkson, he seems to fit all the clues that boomer gave out.

I've attempted to block that thought from my mind. Anyway I'd partially rule out Clarkson as we had zero interest in him this offseason (admittedly without much cap space) so I don't see why we'd want to take him and that awful contract on now.

I wouldnt laugh at Clarkson. I'd heard rumblings back when MDZ was possibly heading to Toronto for Franson (or whomever their other offensive d-man was they were dangling).

Clarkson's had a miserable year, and like Boomer says, it's about the buck$. He signed a monster deal and its really weighed on him in that market. But he's bigger, younger, fights, knows the area, and he's a RIGHTY-shooting LW. The guy has had some good years. Grit & skill. Not a bad match.

We've been out of balance, too thin on the left and a bit too deep on the right. A trade like that would TRY to rectify that...

think id still prefer Stewart, think it still more likely to be MSL,but could be Clarkson. whatever...

I took that as if you are a newer fan you'd be much more attached to a homegrown player who's been around for a while like Callahan compared to if you were more of a longer term fan and experienced the Leetch trade and such.

Not if you're inheriting a cap-busting $70M commitment it isnt.

or they can keep him. Its just fun to speculate on that one; that'd blow away just about everyone. But older I get, everyone does get traded sooner or later. so nothing completely shocks me.

Id say Clarkson fits almost everything Boomer's saying.
Most fans would initially be pretty upset LOL.
But we're not exactly in a commanding position with Callahan as a rental. So something's gotta give.... Clarkson would help if he's healthy..

FWIW Ottawa's owner/GM keeps talking about getting a power forward at the deadline, although 1 for 1 I have no idea. Maybe a Michalek for Callahan deal? I wouldn't do that trade if I was the NYR but Sather does make strange trades at times.

Agreed. Cally for Clarkson makes no sense.

That said is Sather absolutely knows Cally is just going top dollar this summer than he needs to trade him.

Let Buffalo pay him 6.8 mill per season for the rest of his career. He's not worth that in NY

Sather doesn't do stuff like that. He's already told the agent his bottom line. He is amazingly frugal when it comes to re-signing his own players who are not Elite.

He sees Cally like the rest of knowledgeable hockey sees Cally. A great player who is replaceable.


Im love Cally, but based on Sathers record as a trader, I cant wait to see what the return might be.

IDK, I got the sense from Boomer it'd be a player NYR fans would genuinely dislike. I dont see Kadri as having built up venomous feelings on the part of anyone. It's hard to hate MSL, he's too good. Hartnell's definitely hate-able LOL, but is he good enough 1-for-1 for Cally? No, not really. Most Ranger fans dont know who Steve Ott is LOL.

Clarkson was a pretty visible ball-buster with NJD.
I know I wanted to smash his face a bunch of times; and I always wanna smash Marchand's ugly punk mug; We'll see...

Thanks for that. I thought I was going crazy now searching for it and not finding it. I was like "Why would I randomly have thought I saw the word grit???" Not like it's something I use always.
