Callahan: ranks 95th in pts/game over last 3 years combined. In between Wayne Simmonds ($3.975M/yr) & Michael Ryder ($3.5M/yr)

I think nyr fans get pissed at contracts cause Sather has overpaid so much everyone is in paranoia . If Cally diesnt go to 6 he will be dealt. Total confidence in that and not shocked they offered 6 per as their max

But if he does sign 6x6 its not as bad as people are making it sound

Dreger "frankly, who cares what Martin St.Louis wants?"

When he is right, he is right. No one is obligated to placate MSL. This trade would boil down to Steve Y essentially doing MSL a favor after disrespecting him, and very few times in business are favors done that do not benefit the business you are trying to run.

The problem is people keep saying that the cap is going up, but there's no definitive set of numbers that state what the cap will be year-by-year. With the Canadian dollar fluctuating, the proposed "100 million" dollar cap is not a certainty.

That being said, giving into Cally's demands does leave a hindrance with signing of much more important players like Step, Hags, Kreider, Staal, Talbot, Miller, etc. I love Cally and want him on the team, but he can't have a contract that interferes with the maintaining the newer core of players.

It all comes down to smart asset management. Cally's intangibles can be replaced by Hank, G, Mac, Step, and Staal.

If David Backes was traded to the Rangers he'd quickly learn from the fans that he's actually only a third line center.

i want to trade him.. rather see the team get someone new and younger, more skilled/high risk/reward..

try and get Vatenne etem/palmeri and call it day.. hopefully rob the hell out of someone

but the inevitable is going ot happen, we all know it will!

6x6m better just have a NMC the first 3 years.. (dude will be trade eventually) its not a terrible terrible deal (woudve wanted an identical g deal, but 500k isn't a deal breaker)

we sign and meet cally's demands richards has to be bought out, and idk if we can even afford statsny or another top 6 center..

Step, brass, miller

Right. Its not the end of the world - its just another poor decision.

I'd rather have Callahan at 6 years than Stastny at 7.

I wouldn't. Not even close. Stastny's a better hockey player, he looks by far the better bet to stay a better hockey player, his medical record's less scary, he'd be more important to our team post-Richards and if things go south for the Rangers he's the much more salable asset.

If there's any path to St. Louis in the summer, we need to go for him and Stastny. Trade Callahan for youth.

Backes has 5 less goals then Cally has points and 2 less points then Zucc for the team lead

Backes: 20 G 22 A 42 P

Callahan 11 G 14 A 25 P

Backes has 10 more games played than Cally, and I HIGHLY doubt Cally is scoring 17 points in 10 games.

Stastny hasn't been the same player since he got his first absurd payday. He hasn't shown to be a top notch center in 5 years. Pass. Huge pass.

My piece on how the Rangers need to cover themselves if they do give in to Callahan's tyranny:

If Rangers Meet Callahan’s Demands, They Need To Backload Deal

If the Rangers are going to give Ryan Callahan a six-year contract at prime dollars, and it’s looking increasingly more likely that they’re willing to do so, they must do all they can to mitigate the risk on the deal.

Callahan is a unique player and has certainly been useful one for the Rangers. But the style that’s made him useful in the past will make it difficult for him to be useful in the future. His small frame has a lot of miles, a lot of hits and a lot of blocked shots on it. It’s only natural to wonder what his performance level will look like at the end of a six-year deal that will start when he is 29 and a half years old.

Getting St. Louis doesn't make sense unless we unload Cally's contract.

If we retain Cally, I think MSL's dream of being a Ranger for anything short of a gross discount is unobtainable.

I think MSL is the move for the future and Cally is the move for the now. Sather seems to lack the future foresight needed.

MSL offers flexibility needed for future decisions. Cally extended cripples this team moving forward. Disappointing.

His career's followed a weird curve but his production's coming back a little; Avs fans really like the guy. The counting stats look better than I thought they would. Maybe a real mythical unicorn "#1C" is in a position where he's gonna fall in another team's lap in a couple years, I just don't see it. In the next five years, I don't see us coming any closer to a top notch center than Paul Stastny. Maybe a marginally better UFA in the 3rd-5th year.

Just like how our cap isn't irreparably ruined by just overpaying Callahan, it's not irreparably ruined by just overpaying Stastny - and the latter is the better bet in every single category besides "games played in Rangers sweaters." I'm not too psyched about it if we don't make other win now moves, though.

Pretty sure he bet large on the Bruins.
