Thank god only another day of this rubbish. Sather wouldn't torture us and make a deal on gameday?

well due to the short season last year it happened with the Gaborik trade so who knows with this clown running this team :sarcasm:

Based just on talent, Callahan would be getting a 3 year deal worth 3 million per year. These mythical intangibles have pretty much doubled what he deserves.

Looks like someone is going to replace Jonathan Toews as Mr. Intangibles.

Maybe I am just being overly harsh. Would Callahan get more than a 3 year deal worth 3 million per year if he didn't have so much heart and he wasn't the captain of the NYR?

Yea he will , IMO he's going to stay at 6 just like fe did w gurardi at 5.5. Difference is girardi is reasonable and Cally is nuts

I just hope a decision is made by the trade deadline, unless Sather has some genius plan to trade him at the draft, which would be highly unlikely; they'd just wait until July when he becomes a UFA.

Mckenzie brought up centres like Stepan, Kadri, Johansson, Jenner, B.Schenn as the guys Van would take back for Kesler.

A testament to the value or Ryan Kesler, or the value of Derek Stepan?

I would probably not want to trade any of those players for Ryan Kesler.

I would do Callahan and Stepan for Kesler. I actually think that's a fair deal for both teams

You still dont ****ing get it? How old are you? It doesnt matter what he will get in free agency. It doesnt matter what other teams will pay him. Those teams cap situations are different. What matters is our cap situation. This is a salary cap world. He'll get whatever he gets in free agency but it wont be from a contending team like boston or pittsburgh. Those teams will not pay him $6 million. They just wont. A team like buffalo will though. They'll have all the room in the world, its a damn flea market up there right now...theyre selling everything.

You assume I'm immature? I've actually supported my argument with facts rather than...

"He's not worth it because I said so."

He's asking for 6+ because, believe it or not, it's realistic and he'll get something close.

You can argue that the Rangers shouldn't bring him back, that's fine. But don't tell me he's not worth what he's worth.

Basically what I'm reading around here is Callahan should take less from the Rangers than what he could get on the open market because they said so.

I never thought I'd want Callahan to be traded as much as I do now. This is insane, he needs to be moved. There is no reason Callahan should be earning more than 5 million a season. He is not a vital part of this team's future. The best thing Callahan could do for this team is bring in a good return.

He deserves that money..it's not always about stats in hockey...the guy is the heart and soul of the rangers and will do what ever it takes (on ice) to help this team win.. I mean..would you block a Chara slap shot on purpose?

But it doesn't mean the rangers have to give him that money

We all provided facts....

What facts did you provide? Enlighten us....you have thrown out some numbers here and there which were inaccurate. Its your opinion vs the facts we have provided.

Thankfully you dont run the rangers.

Callahan is not worth 6 million a year. Unless he's a brick wall and prevents Chara's shots from going in, he doesn't deserve anything north of 5 million per.

Stan, you do understand you're not going to "show us the light" and convince people who simply don't want to give Cally that kind of money that we should, or that we should be content with it, right?

The most important ones, contracts that were given out recently. I showed you what players like Callahan are getting on the open market, you just refuse to accept reality.

You won't even admit that he'd get 6 on the open market. Then you accuse me of being dumb and immature.

Sad, right? If Callahan signs that contract, he goes (in my eyes) from being one of my favorites to one of my least favorites. His contract will be up there with Drury's, Gomez's and Redden's.

And on one hand, it's Callahan's fault, but it's more Sather's fault for caving in and indulging in his ridiculous demands.

So thanks, Glen. You're about to make me dislike someone I always rooted and cheered for

Callahan isn't worth 6x6. That's overpaying for "heart and soul" and "intangibles".

At least when people talk about intangibles for Toews, there are things to back it up (although his defense is actually tangible). Callahan's "intangibles" aren't worth the money.

I dont have to "accept" those contracts given to clowe and clarkson and make it ok to overpay callahan. I know they exist...but it doesnt make it ok to make repeat mistakes.

You also listed Horton. Horton has been a better and more impactful player in his career. He is making an AAV of $5.3 million. Callahan is not worth more than him. That is what Horton got on the open market.

I said he may very well get $6 million....from buffalo.

Go back and read.

Toews is also more durable and younger...and frankly, better

There's a difference between saying you don't want Cally back because it's not the right move and saying Cally isn't worth x amount.

Cally clearly has a price tag of around 6 million per, arguing against that is pure ignorance.

People seem generally upset with Cally because he's essentially not taking a hometown discount. That's ridiculous.

TSN is doing a damn fine job of trying to drive up the asking price for Kesler.

The Pens will get him for something close to Sutter, Despres/Dumolin and a first rounder.

Let me preface this by saying I, in no way shape or form, condone resigning Callahan on a 6 year deal.

But with that said, I can find SOME solace in overpaying a guy based on what hes done in a Rangers sweater.
