Interesting. I'd say, especially for this deadline, McKenzie & Dreger especially have been on a real tight leash regarding the NYR info they've been privy to.

But if you saw what McKenzie just said on NHL Net, and here it is again, he's basically laying it out there.
Months of talks and still a gap and the reasoning behind it.
And that, as they say, is that. I think we get an announcement very soon and no one will have to wonder whats what.

“The flip side is that Callahan believes he can get a lot more going to open market and he is already sacrificing earning power by staying and taking a lesser deal. The New York Rangers already feel, I think, that they are overpaying a guy that is a $5.5, $5.75 and that they are going the extra mile by going to $6 million a year. So it’s gonna be interesting to see where it goes. I don’t know that either side has that much wiggle room but we have a little less than 48 hours to see if they can get something done. It obviously depends what the trade market holds for the Rangers with Callahan.â€

Stan Bowman isn't looking to make a major move. Kevin Hayes isn't signed. The Hawks #1 pick in 2010. 24th overall. If the Hawks don't sign him by August, they get #54 in the 2015 draft. Will Bowman move him? Chris Dilks is a college hockey blogger. He ranked Hayes as the #1 prospect in college hockey.

The acquiring team could sign Hayes or just be interested in getting the 2nd round pick in 2015.

Hayes has the necessary size to play in the NHL. The Rangers need size and strength.

Brady Skjei is ranked #16.

Dave Maloney is preaching to the choir on this topic.

id love Kevin Hayes.. he was also a teammate of Chris Kreider for two years...

what would it take to get him...

He also only scored 6 last year. His point totals are also tied to Steen who's playing out of his ****ing mind this year.

and in 08-09 when Backes scored 31 goals, who's coat tails was he riding then?

How about 10-11 when he posted another 31 goals. Coat tails?

Backes is a beast of a man that does everything Callahan does on both sides of the puck and is a better more consistent point producer.

I would trade a signed Callahan, JT MIller and a 1st for Backes.

if you think that Callahan and Backes are actually comparable, then you are clueless to what kind of player Backes is.

Chicago traded Pirri for a 3rd and a 5th. Some think they're making room for Kesler.

Pirri is pure offense. Good prospect. They have Andrew Shaw centering the 2nd line.

Miller is not untouchable, but we should at least try to make him part of the solution.

Looked very good vs Boston, scored that breakaway g with great hands and, oh yeah, SPEED, like the kind that would make him a good C to match with Kreider!

Where have we heard that before?:naughty::D:laugh:

Btw, dont forget NYR have a few former TB properties in Dom Moore and Puliot.

They also had Taylor (-20) Pyatt, who might've seem a natural throw-in as his brother is there;

am I forgetting someone?

They play a very similar style.

And if Backes was on the Rangers last year when he scored 6 goals people would be booing him.

He's playing better now. You wouldn't have said that last year.

Yes I would have. Even in 2011-2012, Backes was a better player than Callahan. They may play similar styles, but Callahan is not as good of a player as Backes is.

you put Backes with Kreider and Nash and watch that line physically dominate any team they play against.

Kreider needs Backes more than he needs Miller. Someone to show him how to maximize his frame.

I like Miller. Would love to keep him, but we all talk about getting a big strong talented center? Backes is that in spades.

well written, but I don't believe that any one year can be less than 50% of the cap hit.

I know the year over year variance in actual salary cannot exceed 30% so you will have to restructure based on that alone.
that's only for front-loaded deals, which that one wouldn't be.

I addressed that in the article:

Not a fan of Pirri, and Shaw doesn't always center their second line. The second line is usually Kane and a mish mash of leftovers between Bickell, Versteeg, Handzus, Shaw, Regin, and sometimes Saad. Always Kane, though.

I'd say they're making room for a guy like David Legwand rather than Kesler.

so a deal that has a cap hit of 6 million that pays out in real dollars 7 million in the first year is not front loaded?

never mind.....im an idiot

lol

Let him pull a Cano and go rot in Buffalo. I hate how this is dragging on, got a really bad feeling about this whole thing. I'd rather let him walk than have him at 6.25X6. Even 5.5X6.

At this point if we sign Callahan I am going to really dislike him. One because of his utterly ridiculous contract demands (that he has every right to ask for), 2. I am going to dislike Callahan because he came down on his demands which made Sather cave. Had he stuck to those original demands he wouldn't on this team next year.

I am also going to absolutely despise Glen Sather and I tend to be one of his biggest apologists.

Technically it is in the 1st year but we wouldn't be subject to recapture penalties because less money has been paid than is the cap average.

Front loaded is

Year 1 - $10 million

Year 2 - $10 million

Year 3 - $10 million

Years 4,5,6 - $2 million.

To clear that up, for a deal to be front loaded, it has to contain more money in the first half than the second.

They have the assets for Kesler. Legwand is a good choice too. Their PK Sucks.

I don't know if they have the NHL asset that Vancouver appears to want back. McKenzie reported they are looking for an established forward back, preferably a C, and Chicago is weak at center as is. They definitely have the prospect depth, though, and adding Kesler to that roster...wow.

And yeah, losing Bolland and Folik really hurt their PK. Either one of Legwand or Kesler would really help.
