Interesting. I'd say, especially for this deadline, McKenzie & Dreger especially have been on a real tight leash regarding the NYR info they've been privy to.
But if you saw what McKenzie just said on NHL Net, and here it is again, he's basically laying it out there.
Months of talks and still a gap and the reasoning behind it.
And that, as they say, is that. I think we get an announcement very soon and no one will have to wonder whats what.
“The flip side is that Callahan believes he can get a lot more going to open market and he is already sacrificing earning power by staying and taking a lesser deal. The New York Rangers already feel, I think, that they are overpaying a guy that is a $5.5, $5.75 and that they are going the extra mile by going to $6 million a year. So it’s gonna be interesting to see where it goes. I don’t know that either side has that much wiggle room but we have a little less than 48 hours to see if they can get something done. It obviously depends what the trade market holds for the Rangers with Callahan.â€
