On pace for the worst season full season of his career and is way overpaid (even with retention) as a 4th liner.

Only reason I could see him being moved is if he’s used as a throw-in piece to offset salary with another player in a trade.

I don’t see him being a trade target ahead of the deadline.

He’s not really a playoff type player. Not sure why a team would want to add him for a playoff run. Much better options out there.

Even then, nothing to write home about.
That’s because those years were ultimately let downs, had you guys gone on a deep run or two I’m sure you would sing a different tune.

Or was a he major reason in the downfall of those seasons?

I say and ask kindly btw

Not sure why any playoff bound team would want him. If they do for some reason, to answer the question, not much. If we retain 50%, the price obviously goes up a bit. Not sure what I’d want for him at 50% retained. Perhaps just some kind of reclamation project that the other team wants to nice on from? Draft capital is something we’re oozing so shipping us a pick for him may not get the job done simply because it’s not a huge need, but make it a high enough pick and we could talk. Even still, I think I’d part with him at 50% retained for a third round pick. I’d prefer an actual player though, hence suggesting a reclamation project type player as the ask.

I thought he’s only 30, maybe he can find another gear on a more competitive team , but fair enough

I honestly think he never really found a spot on Toronto. He was tried as a top 6 winger on occasions without much success and as a bottom six guy he didn’t have grit and his skill as whole never really contributed much take away one year. Looking back on your post I’ll actually say his best years were when he on Colorado.

Makes sense, well from an outsider this if my favourite Kerfoot goal ever I think

Just epic

Cheers

Even with a current down season aside...he's really just not one of those sort of players that teams go wild for at the deadline. He's not a bad player, but he's very much just a "filler" type "utility player" who can do a lot of things kind of alright, but nothing especially well. Combined with his contract, and even at max retention, it's more the sort of last minute "bargain shopping" deadline acquisition a team might pick up for some extra depth for a mid pick or underwhelming/out of favour prospect.

If Utah are willing to retain half on him, i think he'd be a solid depth add for someone, especially at a cheap acquisition price. One of those players who can sort of float around the lineup and play a variety of different roles depending on what's needed. Won't completely fall on his face in most of them, but he's never really going to move the needle beyond being just "serviceable" in any particular role.

I think the return probably reflects that in the end. Unless a team gets really squirrelly about the Center market drying up quickly and makes a kneejerk offer hoping that he can be a full-time Center for them. He does at least skate pretty well, responsible enough generally, and brings the sort of PK ability that is always a plus at the deadline.

@3.5 mill …. I do not think he gets claimed if he is put through waivers.

No value….. I see him just playing the season out in Utah not even being waived .

Utah cleaning house / first they waive Valimaki and now this…. Throughing out the extra white rice that nobody wants after ordering Chinese takeout!

Next year he will not even get a contract on free agent day.

He will be one of those 30 + veterans looking for a team / possibly a pto pro tryout to compete in training camp / being a veteran player so a team doesn’t have to play any veteran of significance in one of the first 2-3 pre season games to make the minimum veteran presence in a pre season game.

You don’t think San Jose throws a league min at him?

What do you say @Divine

Take back Kerfy at league min next year for old times’ sake ?

Not worth the roster spot. He’s at the point of his career that he doesn’t do anything well. He was barely serviceable on his last season with the Leafs and continued to get worse.

The Leafs already have too many players who just skate and do nothing else well at the bottom of their lineup. It just doesn’t fit unless they can clear some of those and then bet on his offense coming back. It’s not worth adding another player like that without clearing some of Kampf/Holmberg/Reaves and maybe even Jarnkrok if he ever returns.
