My buddy just told me he heard the Rangers were trying to work a deal with Edmonton for Yakupov. He said Callahan + Miller and some other parts involved.

He has 15% credibility so don't hold your breath, but this is a speculation thread, so there you go.

i would be on board if they threw in a lower level prospect or mid round pick

Callahan would never resign up there.

Do you actually have any basis for knowing that or are you just saying that because it's really cold in Edmonton and nobody would resign up there?

If Cally is the money hungry monster that so many people on here are making him out to be than why wouldn't he resign if Edmonton offered him the money he wants? Edmonton has a better team than Buffalo.

I will be irate if Miller is involved in any trade. We lack centers and his ceiling, which certainly looks very very promising, is top end.

****ing stupid if he's traded. Especially since he possesses penalty killing abilities, forechecking abilities, creativity, and cool-under-pressure puck possession abilities.

Just having a little trade deadline fun:

Callahan to XXX for draft pick, prospects

Draft pick (whichever) to CBJ for Gaborik

Hagelin + draft pick + asset to TBL for MSL

Nash-Stepan-Kreider
MSL-Richards-Gaborik
Pouliot-Brassard-Zucc
Boyle-Moore-Carcillo

Like to see

Stralman & Cally to Ana

Vatanen + to NYR

Vatanen + Kerdiles

Love both Vatanen and Kerdiles.

Stepan/Kerdiles/Miller down the middle in the future would be nice. Kerdiles will be NHL ready in the not too distant future.

No more Gaborik, I think we've had enough.

Well, if 15% of the time he's right every time, I wouldn't necessarily dismiss it right away. ;)

nope. salary cap.

Salary can be retained.

Yeah, I'm hoping for the same if it is true. I'm hearing EDM is really high on Miller. As they/everyone else should be.

I love the trade deadline as much as anyone else, but it gives me some pretty bad heart burn.

Friendly reminder that the salary cap is a thing.

Despite what he tells you, Eklund isn't really your friend. He just wants the ad revenue from viewing his site. :p:

Serious question: outside of the Nash deal, which was a unique case played out over a year due to the fact that the player was pushing it, when was the last time a Rangers trade was rumored more than 90 seconds before it was official? Seems to me Slats always takes us by surprise.

True.

The Gaborik trade came out of left field

Are you sure you want that to happen?

If Callahan wants big money, loser teams like Buffalo and Edmonton are the only places he'll get it from.

I like JT a lot but I love Yakupov so yeah.

I don't think Cally at that price point is a terrible fit for a rebuilding team. If I was an Oilers fan I'd probably be very excited about him. Hard to draft what he brings.

Do you blame people?

He put himself in this position? His energy (or lack there of) has really hurt the team on some games. He used to be a difference maker. He hasn't been a difference maker in 1 game this season. 1 game. And to make matters worse it looks like he's deliberately doing that not as a sign of regression but in an attempt to preserve his body for a higher contract.

He's not selling out. He's not forechecking hard. He's not hitting hard. He hasn't fought once this year.

He led by example. Now he's trying to cripple the team he is supposed to lead. It's easy to see why fans are turning on him.

After so many years of "selling out" because that was expected of him from Torts as our leader/Captain.....how could he continue to do such for whatever years he does have left? Especially that AVdoesnt require that. I don't have a huge problem with that (as I'd rather him be on the ice) problem is.........instead of that Tortarella ****, you need to put up numbers. That has not happened.

Yakupov is interesting ... but honestly I am high on Miller, I think he has a lot of upside. I wold probably be willing to move ANY other prospect aside from Miller.

Because its really cold.

Good points.

Absolutely agreed. I'd rather trade many, many other players who I like and don't want to leave. NYR needs to keep Miller and add another player like him if anything.

On Callahan, is it possible that he hasn't been throwing his weight around as much as usual recently because he knows that much of his future rides on how much money he can get on this contract and he doesn't want to be hurt again while bargaining, or even worse, suffer a more serious injury? Might not even be a conscious thing, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him go back to playing a more ballsy style once this is all squared away.
