They had offered him a contract, he declined and signed with Dallas

Also Patch isnt worth that much. Strome still has a ton of value.

The problem we have is the teams with the UFA rentals to trade will have a player who will return 0 after the TDL.

We still have Patches for a year.

MB was able to grab Vanek with a stink bid because they otherwise would have gotten nothing for him and they were out of time.

So perhaps on TDL day, sellers of UFA rentals will just grab whatever to at least get something.

The Leafs are running Hainsey & Zaitsev as their top RD in the last year of Nylander's entry-level contract with one year left on Marner's and Matthews.

Hugging prospects is all well and good but when you have an opportunity like they do the next two playoffs you have to go for it. They'll still be able to contend after those ELCs are up but you they won't get a better chance to build a Cup-winning team than the next two years with those ELCs being massive value.

As per one of the sports announcers ... "Liljegren is not just a prospect. He is part of their planned core."

He won't be traded.

PS: Gardiner and Reilly are the Leafs top pair. Hainsey is only short term and Polak is gone this year. Zaitsev, Carrick, and Liljegren are RD.

Their defense pairs will be: Gardiner and Reilly, Zaitsev and Dermott, Liljegren and Borgman ... with Carrick on the bench or rotating. Their pipeline and backup are: Rosen, Nielsen, Holl, Rasanen, Marincin, Gordeev, Valiev to name a few. (Rasanen, Holl are RD)

The Leafs want fast moving puck handling defense, not slow stay at home types.

(There are some rumours Gardiner could be traded but he would go for an equivalent defenseman, and he is playing a lot better than in the past. I don't see him moving unless it is in a combo trade and they add to him with their excess forwards to get a better defense man.)

As a rookie callup. He’s been excellent. Over a PPG in the AHL, big centre. He’s their 2C of the future. You’re not getting him. Dillon Dube is much more realistic and Adam Fox or Rasmus Andersson, not Valimaki.

You might want to reconsider the above. People's posts may be ill-advised but that doesn't make individuals "stupid".

There is no question that the word "future" in the HF abbreviation is taken to heart around these parts, even if real life GMs don't share the same view necessarily. You have to give to get and you also don't give up a sure thing with another year of contract locked in for some maybes alone.

Now, for your own sanity, how about not reading those 20 pages? We'll come up with more palatable stuff over the next 20 pages.

That looks like an amazing deal for Montreal. Strome looks solid in the AHL and was a former #3 overall in 2015. Domi already has 193 NHL games under his belt as a 22 year old. I think he might have been rushed into the NHL but he has great upside as the former 12th overall from 2013. The 2019 1st could easily be a top 3 overall next year as well. Two young center prospects on cost controlled entry level contracts plus an amazing pick just sounds like way too much for the Coyotes to give unless they think Strome and Domi are busting. I'm no professional scout but this sure looks good to me as a Habs fan

Really difficult to call someone a bust playing on an awful team like Domi. Strome is PPG in the AHL at 20 years old.... really not sure I agree
