Panthers ready to retain 50% on Bobrovsky according to Nick Kypreos. He still has 4 years left. Edmonton, New Jersey...Leafs? I expect lots of teams to inquire about him. I don't expect the Habs to be among them, but that trade could have a domino effect on trade opportunities.

Vancouver is apparently looking for a top 4 dmen. One of the 5-6 teams on Petry? I'm not sure if they have the cap space to take Petry and resign players. Lots of $ on dmens already too.

Also I see both Romanov and Anderson gone in trade propositions... Can’t wait to see Caufield, Drouin, Hoffman, Evans and the gang throw that weight around and defend their team mates. Maybe Byron can jump in those scrums too. Can Primeau fight?

I believe 20 year olds will need high iq veterans to emulate and learn from, and tough guys who have their back so they don’t all turn into Hoffman and Drouin.

I have not seen Anderson or Romanov defend teammates too many times but since we don’t care about winning for the next 2-3 years we can just stack the 4th line with goons if that becomes a concern.

Petry and a 3rd
vs.
15OA, Rathbone, Dickinson

No way I trade Romanov or Guhle in that package.

I'd do the Anderson, Primeau and 26th though.

Then still trade Petry for 18th.

Walk away with 1st, 2nd, 18th, 33rd. That would be a Gorton-esque draft.

Would be nice. Wishful thinking but we have a new GM who is making good moves. You never know what he is up to right now.

Wright at 1
Slaf or Cooley at 2
Miro at 18 (I would love to add him cause he could be a steal if he gets healthy and reaches potential)
And still have those 2nd's, 3rd's, 4th's.

Primeau is much closer to worthless than keeper.

I always liked Primeau but yeah... I doubt he becomes a legit NHL starter. Might not ever have as high value as he has today.

Primeau, Anderson, and Flames 1st for #2? If the Devils say yes, we would be dumb to say no IMO.

Pondering this as well...

What if Hughes already has a deal to trade Petry for a 1st and also get #2 OA.... Do you think they have pre-agreed trades that they rather wait to release on draft day?

"We have a trade to announce". Would be quite the show in Montreal

Also a goon fan because a good one only takes only one roster spot. Deslaurier? I am somewhat worried team toughness will have to come from the D on this team, which I think is « meh » because they log big minutes and will be quite young If the prospects make it.

I feel players need to care about winning (and do) unlike us fans. The next few years are really formative.

Absolutely that could happen.

Could all the paperwork be signed and filed with the league so it's official right away but announced on stage?

Dallas don't really have many bad short term contract or without NMC, If I had my pick with would be Hakanpaa 2y at 1.5M$,

This is kind of where my retention idea came from yesterday. I looked. So yeah, it's either $1M retention ish or a guy like Hakanpaa or Khudobin.

I still think the Stars are exploring their options if they let Klingberg walk. If we offer $1M retention or retain down to $5M, there is no better value the Stars can get for a top 4RD at that rate. Petry at $6.25M might make them look at other options more. And if we we get into a situation where retention is at play, we are not out of place to ask for a better return than both Toffoli and Lehkonen and I think the Stars get hooked on the idea of Petry at $5M. It's a strategy to get the best futures possible. I don't care if we can't retain on Drouin at the deadline. Minor problem.

Defend the team from what? The entire Atlantic division is soft. That’s why it’s been a cakewalk for Tampa. There’s no more mid-late 2000s Bruins anymore.

Dallas isn't trading a RD back for Petry. Their cap dumb will be Khudobin if there is a trade. And taking Khudobin allow the Habs to not call up Primeau next season.

Habs have Allen and Monty and it's like 95% Price is on LTIR after the season starts. If you add Khudobin, you trade Allen? Or flip Khudobin in another trade? Also possible the Stars trade him in a separate deal. Teams are looking for goalies.

Armia is tradeable for a limited return.

And by the way, if we want to keep losing, MSL playing small or defensively so-so wingers on their wrong sides is an EXCELLENT idea!

Yeah, this chart was more to show how many wingers we have, not where they should play...

I won't debate who should or shouldn't play their offside in this thread. But it's a valid point to not have too many doing so. Not sure if Caufield and Anderson prefer it. I hear Dadonov prefers it, even though I had him playing LW...

In all seriousness, I hope we go:
MTL: Pice, Allen, Montembault
LAVAL: Primeau, Khudobin (or another goalie on and NHL deal that can be called up if/when Price and /or Allen are injured). Shouldn't have traded Hammond last year.

Primeau should play a full 50 game season in Laval, his last that he's waiver exempt. No more yo-yoing.

Would be great to snag the 18th pick from Dallas. ..

Wonder how far up HuGo could move form 18 using 26, 33, Anderson, Dvorak, etc...

Yeah, but he also said he was a big fan of Kulak leading up to the deadline, and many posters posted when he said that that Kulak is staying. Rather, he was pumping his tires.
Yes, correct, but just like Kulak...Anderson can be traded.

It's just the cost to acquire Anderson vs Kulak, is completely different.

A year away from Cup finals Habs still got a few pieces to trade for interesting picks and prospects. That was good team. Lekhonen, Toffoli, Chiarot, Kulak were not all of them. Losing two future hall of gamers to career injuries killed the Habs. But Anderson, Allen, Petry, Eddie, severally others can bring 5 to 6 extra first picks in next two drafts. I am excited about our future

I'm assuming they can do this. What would prevent it?

Imagine being the GM of the other team and someone picks the exact same trade or something close to it and they see their fan base flip out over it. Deal is official and can't be reverse and the GM is sweating in his pants. haha.

100% agree. The timing of new management and a rebuild where we sell off assets for futures could not have come at at a better time.

Chiarot, Lehkonen, Toffoli would not have had the value they had without that cup run. Also add that our latest pool is on good development tracks with that high draft power. Reinforcing that with added futures on top of our very good picks is a very good situation. Stars are aligning well so far.

Khudobin was cap buried by Dallas, I don't think anyone will be trading for a $3.3m AHL goalie. Also, he only played 15 games last season NHL/AHL combined and now I'm wondering what is going on with him.

The idea is that Khudobin is relatively cheap, crap and on an NHL deal. Perfect for the tank next year while keeping Primeau in the AHL to continue his development and Dallas will want to dump him and it will cost them something to move him.

I don't expect Price to play next year, so Allen, Monty, ?, Primeau...and preferably the ? should be two players on NHL deals since last year showed that getting 4 goalies injured in the season wasn't some freak luck with it happening to multiple teams last year (Habs, New Jersey, Ottawa). In the first round of the playoffs after a few games, 26 different goalies had played a game and two teams were on their 3rd goalies...
