I actually wouldn’t. We don’t have anyone in the system that has top pairing potential and you can’t become a Stanley Cup contender without having one.
I agree. I see Romanov as our middle pair lhd for the foreseable future. I accept to trade him but only to balance our D going forward. So to get a top RHD.

Even though he will be very good, it will be easier to replace Romanov than find a top pair RHD. So if you have a shot at it, it's a go for me.

I just don't see why , Bourque, Khudobin and the 2nd need to be added.

It's Petry for the 18th straight up. If we need to add, then sure add the Edmonton 2nd. I don't think I see the need for additional Dallas pieces.

Let's take that 18th and pair with with Anderson to see how much further we can move up. Does Anderson + 18th + Mailloux get us to Philly's 5th?

Essentially it would be

Out: Petry, Anderson, Mailloux and Edmonton 2nd
In: 5th overall

1st - Wright
5th - Nemec or Jiricek
26th - Nazar
33rd - Lambert

**** I borrowed heavily from Button's rankings.....lol****
I think the Habs need to keep Mailloux. His value isn’t what it should be because of the situation and his potential is huge, so just keep him unless someone asks for him and pays for full price for him (which has no reason of happening).

But yes moving up would be nice…

...moving Hoffman won't be an easy lift for HuGo...two more years at over 4 mill for his one-dimensional diminishing play is a hard sell for anyone...

Looks like (per Pagnotta, thefourthperiod) that Hoffman will be traded in the next hours.

:skeptic:

Well Hughes did less or more say that everyone was "for sell" for the right price after trading Weber's contract, so I'm not exactly surprised, but that comes out a bit out of nowhere. Mostly because I'm reading the NHL execs don't like it that teams do trades during the playoffs.

Looking online, the Hoffman's rumor started with "he might be traded before the start of training camp" to "he's being traded before tomorrow" via the telephone rumors mill in the last 24 hours...and then Pagnotta made his comment.

So I take it he won't be traded at all now.

one thing that I think got lost in the trade a D who doesn't have get production for Jiricek/Nemec is that You don't need all your Defenseman to be elite playmakers and scorers. What you need is a mix, Look Ottawa in the 2010's. They had Methot paired with Karlsson and it was one of the deadliest combo's in the NHL at the time. Methot's defensive style allowed Karlsson to fully commit to doing his thing and almost took out the soon to be Stanley cup champions.

...very true, however we also don't have a Swedish Jesus in our current D Prospect pool...

That's seem to be a bad interpretation from the website, the only thing Pagnotta said was that:

"Over the past few days, veteran defenceman Jeff Petry, winger Mike Hoffman and power forward Josh Anderson have all seen their names circling around the rumour mill.

Hoffman, 32, has two more years left on his contract and owns a $4.5 million cap hit and could be moved out if the right offer presented itself."

Maybe it's because I hope it's true :D
