Unless we get something back or simply switch Guhle for Mailloux/Harris Id do it.

NJ wants to win right now, they won't trade for Mailloux, Guhle is NHL ready and is the better prospect of the two at this point, his ceiling is a #2 Dman and his floor a #4 Dman. NJ's 2OV is a substantial prize you win in the trade. All of that because NJ doesn't want to draft another smallish center in Cooley. The price is steep but the reward is exceptionnal. This is like trading York for Caufield...

Yes wtf who wouldnt

Apparently a lot of posters.

So why would we draft another Center when the two we'll have are better. Trade him for something else of need?

Because you get to draft BPA and add more value. Personally, I would move Suzuki to Wright's right wing and play Caufield on the left, with Cooley as 2C, but there are many scenarios MSL could juggle with.

Between Wright, Suzuki and Cooley... It's Cooley I would push to the wing, not the other two... They are bigger and better at center.

Anyways, with NJ's pick, I would go with Nemec...

I'm basing my argument on stilts. It's been reported that Cooley and Wright are almost on the same level; then, there is a big drop off.

Yeah, those are posters who aren't Habs Homers

That trade sucks for New Jersey, but no one here uses common sense, so...

Would you trade the 2nd overall for that? No, right ? So why even bother f***ing proposing it.

Aren’t we only able to go 10% over the cap during the summer? And aren’t LtIRs re-evaluated before the season starts? If that’s the case, then his salary restricts us from signing other players during that window between July 1 and the start of the season.
you're right, but I also don't think Habs should be signing anyone this off season.

That would translate to 2 1sts and a top 6 PF for the pick. Why wouldn’t they do that?
Because that doesn't get you the #2 pick in the 1st round on elc. Josh Anderson and his contract isn't worth a 1st. There's alot one had to trade to get those picks

Strangers things have happened, that's why I'm proposing it, I guess: maybe they think it's a weak draft outside of the top 2 and don't want Cooley because they want to build a big team to surround superstar Hughes properly.

Not only would he prosper, he would become a fan favourite.
There is no need for Cooley on this team, he's no superstar. With Suzy and Wright there is no urgency to drop such a package of quality. Andy and Guhle and a first have much more value together than 3 years away from ready Cooley. We couldn't' hope for a better development curve for Guhle and you make it sound like Andy have negative value because of a 5.5m contract. You know any team would take him on their roster right?

These all have better value in an individual trade so there is no fit or need for the NJ pick.

Putting Suzuki on the wing of the new shiny things seriously made me lol.

I might sound like I don't find value in Guhle in Anderson because I'm trying to make an argument. You can easily make the opposite argument. That's why we live in a postmodern world. In fact I do value Anderson and Guhle and for that matter Calgary's 1st round pick. The only reason I'd trade them is to find a gem. Anderson plays like few players do, PFs are super rare in the NHL. Can you imagine how many goals Anderson would score next to Hughes crashing the net with speed and size? And I compared Guhle to McDonagh...

I can see a situation where we offload Weber’s contract, Drouin, Hoffman, Petry then sign Letang and maybe a Gaudreau but still end up near last place just with better work ethic due to the quality of veterans helping our youngsters and some extra cap space to boot

I would. Jiricek and Nemec have higher ceiling than Romanov and a late 1st. Doubt Jersey thinks this is a good deal for them.
Yeah kinda knew that was going to be the consensus answer. What i was trying to do is what Habs fans think of Romanov's value compared to Guhle's and also since NJ needs actual roster players, if they would be ok with switching Guhle with Romanov.

Let's say that kind of trade happens, i would be ok with :

Guhle-Nemec
Eddy(or another veteran D if Eddy leaves)-Barron
Harris-Savard (or another veteran D if Savard leaves)

There is alot of noise about NJ trading that pick................HuGo would be in on this, but it's futile for us to ague about it.............rarely are posters on HF a good gauge of what it would take to get...................rarely.
