I really agree but I'm not sure Hugo is going for a rebuild, either rebuild or retool could backfire and we don't have a crystal ball. If you manage to get Dubois for a discount it changes the team dynamics. Personally, I'd rather they send Caufield for the 2OV and Suzuki for the 6OV and 12OV, suck hard; then, sign Dubois in 2024! But if you're keeping the team as it is, you're retooling, and Dubois at a discount really fits in a retool.

...there's a difference between a rebuild and Scorched Earth...our two best forwards are 21 & 22 respectively...we don't need a total Scorched Earth approach...

Because they are too good for the team to suck. Because of timing. Because they will garner blue chip prospects. The team is already overloaded with salary, if you take them away, you're still over the floor. Let the deadwood burn, draft wisely, leave your prospects in the minors, then you'll have a team.
They were here last season as far as I know and we finished dead last.

They will garner blue-chip prospects? They are blue-chip prospects! :help:

If you ask some hab fans Anderson sucks, he's over paid and needs to be traded and Dvorak is a waste.

Looking at their roster the Jets don't have to sign any major rfas aside from Dubois, so they'd have around 8 mill left to sign 4 forwards, that's assuming none of their prospects are ready to make the jump, 1 dman(7th) and 1 goalie.

Whether that deal is bad, or not, it doesn't leave the Jets with enough money to fill out their roster imo.

Habs would need to retain, which is possible, or take back someone like Schmidt which might have value and is too much for the Habs to take back imo.

The problem with the Habs doing this is your centre depth is now PLD, Suzuki and Wright. Great centre depth, but the d still sucks and the crease is a question mark as to who our starter is. Obviously keeping the pick with Dvo and Andy isn't any better, but the Habs still aren't in a good position to compete.

It’s not a problem. It’s a rebuild. Problem will fix itself with more suckage and top draft picks. I’m 2025, Dubois will be a core piece and we will be ready to compete (hopefully).

You have a point. I'm proning a scorched earth strategy. Had the Persians scorched the earth, they would have stopped Alexander! Instead they lost their empire.

Just seeing the Jets only have 6 forwards signed for this year, GM has some work to do!

Maybe they’d take 2 roster players:
Dubois for Anderson + Dvorak + MTL 2nd

Basically a mid first and 2 late firsts.

Decent value?
I think Dvorak could manage 60 pts if he played with Panarin or Kyle Connor in their 90+ pts seasons too...

Dubois is not worth Anderson + Dvorak + MTL 2nd. That's an awful overpay. Montréal should actually avoid him like the plague, he has all the signs of being another Drouin.

And who says any of those prospects become as good as caufield or suzuki?

I think they fit our timeline perfectly....and they've already shown to be gamers when it matters in the playoffs too (especially suzuki).

You simply do not trade these players if your intent is to rebuild, unless you want to be like arizona. Also if we ice a complete dog shit team, who the hell would ever want to sign with us

Basically two late 1st and a 2nd? If the Jets accept that package, you should take it. Dubois is worth more than that. Dubois really fits in a retool. He's not another Drouin, he's bigger, stronger, tougher and more proven.

This is a recipe for disaster.

You need solid NHL vets and young vets to guide your young guys and show them the way...

It will screw your cap structure also if there's no barometer on the roster.

It's risky, I agree. Listen, that's just my opinion. It won't change Hugo's opinion in any way. And I have an advantage, I don't have to deal with the consequences of this plan if it blows.

How can you say he's not going for a rebuild.

Traded Chariot Lekhonen Kulak and Toffoli
Weber is gone and Price is following soon if not in a month in his case.
Habs are trying to trade Petry and Anderson at this moment.
Drouin and Byron are goners at the deadline. Same for Dadonov.
Edmundson is gone next season
Dvorak is 100percent on the TB
That leaves Armia and Gallagher as vets.
Also Allen is mostly gone at the TDL

If it's not a rebuild then what is it That's 14 players gone in 2 years.

You're making a good argument. I think he's doing a retool because of the trajectory the team seems to be taking. It looks like the team will compete next year. Technically you're right, you demonstrated this is a rebuild because of all the movement. But in practice it's the equivalant of a retool if the team competes next year. That was my thinking. Maybe that's why Hugo didn't want anything to do with those two words.

Age 23 to 28.

Columbus is very much the Paris of central Ohio.

;-)

In all seriousness, it's got 1.5 million people and I'm sure millionaires can have the time of their lives there.
Columbus is an awesome city, like Austin, Texas very artsy and great for foodies. Always liked the city, but it’s not the “big city” like NYC

Ok let me ask you guys this, if your NJ GM what would offer Montreal for your 1st pick?
NJ doesn’t want the 1OA pick, GM Fitzy mandate is to make the playoffs & make some noise next season, not keep rebuilding for the future

Just for fun. Jack Hughes for 1OV, Romanov and Caufield; then, I draft Wright and Cooley. That's what I would ask for my superstar. Maybe try to bargain about Romanov and see if another prospect would work. Caufield's value is so volatile, you just don't know if he's streaky or if he's a star, it's really hard to gauge. Habs fans may over value him. How do you know he won't have cold streaks, to which amount, and what is the nature of those? Let's not forget he scored all those goals in a losing season, when it's easier to put up points. It's hard to say. That's me playing the devils advocate having fun thinking as a Devils fan lol.

Doesn't that also apply to Hughes?

I already explained it. I would trade them because of the momentum of those picks. It's a pushback momentum, you can have them in the minors hatching while your team wins the lottery. You then sign UFAs to fill the holes and have a really good team to work with.

About Hughes, he's shown a lot of creativity this year, he came out of his shell. He's a special player, those never get traded. Obviously the Devils will ask for the moon. Somebody asked us to build a scenario where the 1OV was traded and I accepted the challenge just for fun.

I was thinking what team at the top of the draft would be most interested in trading for 1st overall and thought it is probably Philly.

Then started thinking what would that spicy trade look like. 1st overall and Anderson to Philly. 5th overall, 2023 unprotected 1st, JVR and Sanheim to Montreal.

Suzuki and Caufield are slam dunks in terms of drafting, why in the world would you gamble to get better?

The chances are so slim, that's why your plan makes no sense.

He's another headcase like Drouin and just like Drouin people are overrating him thanks to his name thinking he's going to turn into a elite star franchise altering player any day now...

Caufield hasn't proven he's a slam dunk and Suzuki may never reach his ceilling. They are not slam dunks. We don't know if Caufield is a superstar or just inconsistant. You don't know if Suzuki is a 1st line center or just a 2nd line center. I like them both, but you can't say they're slam dunks until they are; unless we have a different definition of what a slam dunk is, which might be the case.

PLD doesn't suffer from mental illness like Drouin. You don't know in which circonstances that quote came out. I suspect the Jets management wanted him to sign long term and he just said no. It's so easy to throw him under the bus but in reality we are not in the room where it happens!

You don’t know if a centre that got over 60 points in his 3rd season and is trusted in all situations is not a slam dunk? Team playoff scoring leader as a rookie and 2nd year player. That’s not a slam dunk 1st line centre?

Yeah I’d say your definition is way off.

And you're willing to trade them for even less probability?

Magic beans seem to be your favorite meal.
