I'd say a trade for 2OA likely starts with Caufield.

Playing devils' advocate you potentially finish last if Caufield isn't on the team anymore. You send Wright and 2OA back to their league and you land Bedard or Michkov next year! In that scenario you could also trade Suzuki and then activate Weber and Price's salary to reach the floor! That's evil genius jaedong stuff but nothing is impossible! Ok back to reality now...

Russian players are dramatically undervalued in the NHL and it's a god damn shame because if NHL teams tried maybe 15% more to integrate Russian players (with better scouting, translators, cultural support, etc) they would benefit from a goldmine of talent.

I hope Hughes and Gorton have moved on from Timmins' fetish for Minnesota HS kids.
Maybe that’s because rare is the Russian star player who performs at par or above their regular season performance output @ playoff time.

Markov was prime example - brilliant hockey mind & talent, but was never able to maintain performance level at playoff time. He was less of a factor every playoff vs regular season over his Habs career

Weber and rights to Struble probably get Canes first pick back. Habs deep on LD can move Struble. Use the pick to draft Luneau or Chesley.

Flames pick and our 33rd to Canucks for 15th? Kasper could be good pick at 15.

Gives Habs Wright, Kasper and Luneau first round.

Who else definitely thinks Habs are going to add another 1st rounder this year and possibly next AND trade picks to move up? I do.

I think management wants to accelerate the "rebuild" by adding quality picks over quantity and given our current prospect pool and adding Wright, it makes perfect sense. Add to that Gorton's penchant for trading up, and it's the perfect storm to do this.

Why in the world would Canes want Weber??

Arizona has Canes 1st this year through us via the Dvorak trade. So he's suggesting we package Weber's contract with Struble's rights in exchange for that Carolina pick.

Would you trade Guhle and CGY 1st for NJ 2nd?

No.

I think its more feasible to try trade for the 4th or 5th overall pick, as the 2nd overall is going to be way too high.

If the top three are Wright, Cooley, Nemec, I start making phone calls to slide in and grab Slafkovsky.

I think Devils are only team considering moving pick as they want to compete- Maybe Ottawa too. Everyone else near the top are rebuilding.

Weber contract isn’t a issue for us, it actually a get out of jail card for KH, since that contrat limit is option unless Arizona or Wilds want to pay we just tank a other season.

Would you trade Guhle and CGY 1st for NJ 2nd?
Tough. Depends if you think Guhle can be a shutdown top line D in the future. I personally do. Other don't so they probably would trade him in a heartbeat. I think it's a borderline lateral move especially if Habs are getting a potential top 6 F with Calgary's pick.
I just left the coyotes board, people there think that the habs should pay for the coyotes to take webers contract, I countered with a different viewpoint with explanation.
Those users are quite the defensive bunch. Very telling...
