We don't have the same definition of elite if you think Charlie McAvoy is one.

Game changers are most often than not found early in the first round. Charlie "32 points career high defenseman" McAvoy is not one of them.
of course he’s not elite in your book, he wasn’t picked top 3

Why can’t we do both?
Drafting 3rd, 14th and 22nd a few years in a row would be fantastic!

Indeed. This might be a good year to trade back for some extra firsts. Overall in this draft there are a lot of really high upside prospects, but no ''Tkachuk'' like prospects who are basically sure-thing NHLers.

I take the guy anyday on my team (Don't like his near 10M$ contract thought).

But I considered elite top 15 defenseman and he would barely make my top 15 (maybe 15).

McAvoy is elite, he can take a lot of minute and he’s very good in each situation off the game

The real question is what can the Habs do to make sure Price isn’t back next season so they can draft Bedard or Michkov.

too bad we can’t eat ALL of his salary in a trade

I think our best chance is to take back a bad contract or two. What are some bad contracts around the league?

if Jeff can move: ( I say this as the ones he has a chance in moving, not saying all of them)
hopefully 3 of these ones
Gally
Ben
Tyler
Petry
JD (with a hope and prayer)

then this is not bad at all, price remains for sure

Chiarot is an obvious one but one of the other 3 CAN be moved with the goal of setting up the future AND and making sure we’re surrounding our players with actual viable NHL talent.

dont about you guys, rebuild or not, but I don’t want to see Alex Belzile play another shift on this team.

Either one would be a dream.

.It sure looks like we have a shot at one of the top 2 picks this season. Wright or?

Trade as many vets as we can for draft picks.
Even Price can't keep a AHL level type team out of the bottom 2 them we have a shot at Bedard or Michkov.
On our way up after that.

We do need to make it a point to draft larger, more athletic players. I've been thinking for some time on this basis that Jiricek is basically our guy. There are some big athletic guys available at the top of next year's draft as well. @SOLR made the point about having a ''physically respectable'' team, and we're pretty far from that mark.

Slafkovsky would be a good option if we wanted to trade back, but straight up taking him at 3 or higher? Nah.

Would attempt to trade Caufield to NJD for their pick and then draft Slafkowski. The stars sare aligned, they are finishing their rebuild - we are starting it. Caufield can help them next year, we can be patient with Slafkovski. Draft Savoie first. Coming out of this draft with 2 blue chips top 6 wingers would be awesome.

I don’t think we need to shore the future D respectability with Guhle and Mailloux (+Struble, Romanov etc.) we have this already, our big problem is upfront. Particularly with all the best players in the next few drafts being on the small side.

Yeah, I don't get it. Caufield is the more NHL ready prospect, so what are we getting for taking the riskier guy?

Slafkovski's size and higher potential. I think Caufield is fairly risky as well. Hughes might turn him into a 30 goals guy overnight however that doesn't make Caufield a 2-way player.

Nope, left swipe. Caufield was risky on draft day, he's not risky at all right now. If you want Slafkovsky just take him.

For the return we would get, I think he can be a good veteran to keep with the team who will help the young players
I would keep him as well. He has shown to be proud and is happy to wear the CH. I don’t think 3.5 mil is a awful contract and I like Alzner, Savard can play. He’s also helping with the French speaking quota .

Haha, Caufield is no less risky now. Caufield's risk is that he doesn't have the upside of more than a Hoffman (a 1 way goal scorer that teams don't really value).

I'd take a risk at a Marian Hossa instead (who took many years to develop in Ottawa)

Ridiculous. He wasn't a goal per game sophomore hobey baker winner on draft day. Hossa's nickname was ''hello goodbye'' whereas Slafkovsky's nickname should be ''...were you leaving, or?''

Watching the Bruins…man is Charlie MacAvoy ever good.

You really can’t find elite talent unless you’re picking high….errrrrr wait….
McAvoy was a solid pick but so were McDonaugh (same level pick) and Pacioretty - as everyone knows unfortunately Habs haven’t had many since 2007

Watching the game today and Chiarot would a great fit for the Panthers

he would fit next to Ekblad like he did with Weber ans Weegar could slot in the second pairing

Chiarot
Vs
Denisenko
1 pick 2023
