HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread: From Here to Free Agency

Canes and Panthers had a similar organizational model and I'd argue we're on a very similar path... Just possibly with more in house core talent built from the ground up.

Will be a few years before we know for sure, but we're shaping up to be even more formidable than either given how well our cap situation is trending as a result.

first of all I don't think those 2 teams are any similar, one plays a unique system that is hard to play and only works if everyone plays it perfectly, with very few top end talent. The other plays literal cheating despicable trash hockey with some solid talent in the lineup

second of all we're not on the same track as neither of those teams I have no idea what you're talking about if i'm being honest. We're much closer to the Oilers or Leafs in terms of team building and philosophy than we are to those other 2 (not in a pejorative way, the Leafs really f***ed up at some point in terms of culture, oilers made back to back heartbreaking cup finals)

Why isn’t the heart and soul traded yet? I thought Vancouver was salivating to acquire him?
I’m just waiting to find out if the Habs repatriate Yoellllllllllllle, just to see what @The Real Timo ’s reaction will be. :sarcasm:

Or maybe, Timo Meier, so there would be a real Timo on the team and @The Real Timo would have some competition.

Best time of the year for a hockey fan.

I dont think we have the ammo for a huge move. I think big names will either not move or go for established NHL players in hockey trades. Like Larkin is more likely traded for a Knies or McTavish that 2 1st round picks and prospect.
any trade will be out of left field and most likely not someone that has been tweeted for clicks about
we absolutely have the ammo

Maybe already discussed............maybe we leave the 2C alone and we look to beef up the Wing in a Brock Beoser from the Nucks?

Spitballin.......
Boeser and EP40??? I don't think it would cost us either Hage or Z but cap would have to go back.

Also just spit balling. That would be such a soft ass top 6 lol

id say yes, management has said numerous times they would overpay if the right player came along and was available
yes its true they said this, but they also said, more recently, that they will look at improving the roster in a balanced way, without mortgaging the future.

Isn't Boeser like a young Toffoli? Good goal scorer but that's about it. Not very physical and not a great skater. I really dislike both him and Debrusk on the Canucks.

Boeser is a younger, worse version of Toffoli.

One that is even slower, softer, worse defensively, and worse in terms of puck-possession. Boeser has "higher highs" offensively though, but much "lower lows" to Toffoli too, as well as being less consistent than the latter.

In short, we do not need Boeser on our team, at all.

What we need is to somehow instantly give three more years of good experience and positive physical maturing/skill development to Michael Hage and Alexander Zharovsky so they can help us with our top-6 problems as soon as next season.

Since this is obviously impossible, we'll have to settle for the next best thing which is to try and trade for immediate help, likely even sacrificing one of those two top forward prospects.

We need help at 2C, and a #2 LW. Unless our management thinks that Newhook is a second-line left-wing, but I am not convinced yet.

We also need help at D, to get bigger, and stronger in the bottom pairing and also either give minutes to one of our young D (Reinbacher, Engstrom) or acquire ourselves a ready-made partner for Hutson on the right.

Since we won't be able to fit all of those upgrade under the cap with Gallagher taking up capspace for very little tangible good, we also need to look at trading him.

Oh, and we also need to inquire about trading Montembeault in order to acquire a new veteran backup to Jakub Dobes so that Fowler has time in the AHL to develop further before he's tasked with a lot of minutes in the NHL.

After that comes an evaluation of our own RFAs, and whether or not it might not be better to trade them or re-sign them.

Oh, and we need to keep drafting well so we get more prospects like Pickford, Dobes, Fowler, Xhekaj, Zharovsky, and Hutson out of the draft with later-round picks.

We also need to see what we can add in the UFA market. If a guy like Mason Marchment is available for not too crazy a term and money, maybe we move on it. Maybe we also commit to AJ Greer as depth with size and truculence on our team.

All put together, it means that Kent Hughes will have a busy Summer again and will need to make a metric ton of decisions roster-wise, especially at the Draft this upcoming Friday and Saturday.

If I had my way, I would look to sign Ryan Shea on the cheap if possible, and then try and trade one of our other Ds to increase our leverage/assets.

Ryan Shea was tremendous for Pittsburgh this season and I feel is underrated across the league right now and might be ripe to get signed to a good deal.

No. Trochek is too small, Laf is a 2nd line winger.
OTOH
1st is 28th overall very low chance of an NHLer
Dach is useless
Pickford probably never makes it as an offensive Dmen on Montreal with Dobson and Hutson (and Matheson) on the team.
The only question is will Z be more than a 25-25 guy which Laff is. Z could very well be a 2nd line winger.
To me its
Laff for Z and Dach
Trochek for 28th OVA and Pickford.
IT depends if you think Z can be more than a 25 goal guy because thats what you get with Laff, 25 G 30 or so assist.

I think Zharovsky could be a PPG winger one day with positive development.

I think that even with middling development Zharovsky will end up a better player than Lafrenière is, so I wouldn't want to trade him in exchange for Lafrenière.

I've watched all of Zharovsky's games this year, and he's got all the tools you look for in a decisive first-line winger.

Zharovsky has low-key strong skating ability, is 6'2 (almost 6'3) with TONS more room to grow physically (could realistically add another 20+ pounds of muscle over 5-6 years), has very good puck-protection technique, an extremely versatile offensive skillset, is a very good playmaker, borderline-elite stick-handler, not bad defensively when he puts in the effort (with obviously still tons of room to grow), goes to the hard areas of the ice, and is generally consequent with the puck on his stick (no silly turnovers).

I think Zharovsky and Fowler duke it out for the top spot on our prospect list, and I'd have Fowler coming ahead ever-so-slightly but they are not far behind one another.

I actually prefer Zharovsky over Michael Hage as a prospect full stop.

Overall, I'd much prefer if we didn't trade any of our top-3 prospects in a trade package for an established veteran for the second line.

Given circumstances we likely won't be able to forego including at least one of those, but I'd really like for us to try.

Fowler, Hage, and Zharovsky are all amazing prospects.

Laffy may be cheap to acquire and while nothing special, he's a legitimate top 6. Every time you add on top, the column gets stacked. Same for McT

I'm waiting to see if Z and Hage are the real deal. If Z is Demi jr, who is ever going to be a big wheel between those two? Crosby? McD? So for me it's not about blowing our prospects to get a 2c...that we may never get the value from. Just stack a few more young top 6 and build a dedicated dogs of war 4th line...then lets try this cup run thing again.

This time if peewee thinks he's going to reinvent hockey and we are in the same position next year with the same problems...with a core that is this talented...time to move on from him.
