HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread: From Here to Free Agency

I think you can make an argument sitting on his hands at the TDL could have cost the team a berth in the cup finals.
Imagine Knies on this team with the run they had. TB ending in 5, Buf in 6, maybe you win game 2 or 3 in Carolina. A lot of things could have change.
Seeing how far the habs made it giving up a first or some b prospects for an extra player or swinging for the fences could have been the difference between playing vegas and losing to CArolina in 5.

I dont think so. They were completely obliterated. There is no one player that was going to make the difference in that kind of beating.

Now they still have their assets to leverage in trades and their youth continues learn lessons. Their better days are coming.... just hope it doesn't take nearly as long as carolina's struggle.

IMO the thing that many people don't consider is, Vancouver doesn't NEED to move EP40 at all.

Think about it from their perspective; they are clearly rebuilding and won't be competitive for at least the next few years. EP40's value is almost as low as it can go, so why move him now if the assets gained don't move the organization forward in a meaningful way?

They can easily hold onto him for the next couple of years, use him to insulate their young players, and salary isn't an issue for a rebuilding team. Even if he doesn't regain his form, his contract is shorter by 2 years and the salary cap has grown substantially in that time, so there will likely be more interest.

All this to say, I'm not advocating to trade for EP40
If they were confident he could regain his form and be a good influence on their young team, they'd keep him, right?
But they want to trade him now.

I don't think his value is as low as it can go.

"Trade was filed too late"

"Deal was agreed upon"

I never entirely pinned all of the blame on Hughes, but if this is true, he could have filed it himself since it was agreed upon.

There's a reason why in February, Leafs were looking to extend Treliving, and after the TDL he was fired. I'm willing to bet he screwed up. Keith Pelley said he was in the war room during the TDL. So he witnessed the blunder.

The best thing that can be said about Joshua Roy is that he did well for a 5th round draft pick, and the Habs have given him a legitimate shot at being an NHL player.

He just didn't make it. I'm not sure why. Perhaps he needed a better work ethic, or a slightly bigger frame.
And a lot more quickness.

So it is true that Michael Hage-eeee was offered. Makes sense why the kid chose school for another year. He's pissed that he was about to be traded.

I don't know what Hughes will do, but I'm at certain that at this point of the rebuild, whatever trade it is, many here will be losing their minds and bitching non-stop about the "mistake" or "overpayment", because picks and prospects are so important when you're trying to get the missing pieces to a contender.

But they want to trade him now.
I guess thats where we see things differently (and thats OK).

I think they're gauging offers, not actively trying to trade him at all costs. This is why I think it will cost premium assets to get them to retain.

I guess we'll see how it plays out. IMO LA and Detroit are in desperate situations, so if a trade does happen I wouldn't be surprised to see them give up decent assets.

Unless EP40 comes cheap or retained, I don't think the Habs will be seriously involved.

We will see. I expect somes moves at some point but i expect at best a mid-sized move.
I don't care if it comes down to a couple of mid-sized move.

But having arguably a top 5-to-10 D in the league playing off-side with Jayden Struble for extended periods of time would just be pure incompetence.

So would letting Demidov off to dry at ES.

Hage went back to school. Haygee is a completely other kid.

Honestly, Pelley probably mentioned him because it's possible it's who Leafs asked for. But all reports saying Zharovsky was the one in the deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if we head into the season with Kapanen as the second-line center. Knies isn't getting traded if the rumored ask is correct.

If it's Detroit trading for him, then they should definitely have to give up premium assets to get him retained...lol

I might be wrong, but I don't think the Habs would be interested regardless.

Like Jarvis and Ehlers? And Stankhoven........Cup champs.....

Trochek is not small, he has some serious fight in him........no he is not big either, but he plays bigger than he is that's for certain.

This is the problem with a copycat league and a weird cup winner

we are NOT going to recreate what they did, no one is, it's a systematic win that is unreproducible and it's not a good point of comparison

Canes and Panthers had a similar organizational model and I'd argue we're on a very similar path... Just possibly with more in house core talent built from the ground up.

Will be a few years before we know for sure, but we're shaping up to be even more formidable than either given how well our cap situation is trending as a result.
