Huh? Hertl was complete caca in the playoffs, he's not overtaking CC/Slaf/Demidov on the PP.
As I said, I havent watched him in recent years but he used to be one, if not the best, PP netfront player in the league. Thats what we need.

And tbf, maybe he was bad, but so were all the players you just listed.

You most likely need 2 sides to file the papers.

Otherwise, I'm mad at Hughes for not filing a Gallagher vs McDavid trade at 2:59.
NHL themselves say that "Trade conference call is really the end result of a fairly lengthy process that begins when we get notified by a club". So once a club (either Montreal or Toronto) notifies the league, the process starts. It seems like that didn't get accomplished until after the deadline.

As we have seen, its the playoffs when the hole starts getting amplified, not the regular season, so the trade deadline becomes a more relevant internal milestone than this summer.
The pieces to acquire for the long term happen in the summer. A successful summer, reduces your dependency on the more expensive proposition that a trading deadline can be. Better to be able to deal leaguewide rather than with only those teams out of the playoffs. Plus, trading draft picks closer to the draft, is a greater incentive to close out a deal.

I agree that the tdl is not conventional for these types of moves and it is typically more expensive, but they can lay some groundwork at the very least. I also am not saying they will wait until the deadline. A mid season trade can also happen. I just dont think you force yourself to fill a hole this summer if the right deal isnt there because it will presumably be a deal that you have to live with for years.

Didn't know that part of the process. In that case, my guess is that Traveling said he would take care of it. It'd be kind of hard to put the blame on Hughes for trusting an actual NHL GM with a decade of experience in the league to handle something like that. It would also explain why he was so mad lol.

Crosby is only one option. Lets not get side derailed because the name "Crosby" was mentioned. If no other options make sense (player and price), Crosby could be a great stop gap. We will see. Only one option of many to come.

The main point here is we should be making a move for the right player that fits our needs, not our wants. Extra cap and assets to trade means we might be chopping at the bit to make a premature move. A smart strategy (could be) to let other GM's get aggressive this summer and wait it out for a real impact addition and after the storm settles, Habs still have cap space and assets and other teams are more tight to cap again.

I would love to make a big move this summer but I'm not marrying my expectations or strategy to that. I'm very much open to waiting to the next TDL or next summer if this summer is to wild.
💯

Fair. But there is an other side to this. We can't expect the GM to blow things just for the sake of pleasing fan or for the sake of making a move.

It will happen that there is no fit or that a specific, needed market is just not present at the right time.
I don't think anyone is talking about blowing things up but KH has amassed alot of assets and at some point there is value in using them to make an upgrade that improves the team.
I am sure KH will make a move during the summer he has done one every year its just a matter of time.

We will see. I expect somes moves at some point but i expect at best a mid-sized move.

Its the same fans who buried the organization for the last 2 trade deadlines for not doing anything (only to have the team finish strong in both cases).
I think you can make an argument sitting on his hands at the TDL could have cost the team a berth in the cup finals.
Imagine Knies on this team with the run they had. TB ending in 5, Buf in 6, maybe you win game 2 or 3 in Carolina. A lot of things could have change.
Seeing how far the habs made it giving up a first or some b prospects for an extra player or swinging for the fences could have been the difference between playing vegas and losing to CArolina in 5.

I don't know. EP40 at 9M is still overpaid and a big risk.
Teams are not responsible for the contract Vancouver gave him. They shouldn't have to pay for retention.
IMO the thing that many people don't consider is, Vancouver doesn't NEED to move EP40 at all.

Think about it from their perspective; they are clearly rebuilding and won't be competitive for at least the next few years. EP40's value is almost as low as it can go, so why move him now if the assets gained don't move the organization forward in a meaningful way?

They can easily hold onto him for the next couple of years, use him to insulate their young players, and salary isn't an issue for a rebuilding team. Even if he doesn't regain his form, his contract is shorter by 2 years and the salary cap has grown substantially in that time, so there will likely be more interest.

All this to say, I'm not advocating to trade for EP40

I dont think we have the ammo for a huge move. I think big names will either not move or go for established NHL players in hockey trades. Like Larkin is more likely traded for a Knies or McTavish that 2 1st round picks and prospect.
any trade will be out of left field and most likely not someone that has been tweeted for clicks about

COuld not agree more

What about Marchment ? Should be easier to get. Cheaper. Can bridge younger players for 2 years. HUGE. Not sure about his ability I never paid much attention to him.

Would you do Zharovsky, Dach, 2026 1st and Pickford for Trocheck and Lafreniere?
No.

They are both good player but Trocheck is 33.

Lafreniere is a good fit tho.

But they are not good enough to give a prospect of Zharovsky stature.

I think Lafreniere is a legit tatger and i could see us paying a big price but not Hage or Zharovsky.

Reinbacher also comes with another two years on ELC due to his injuries. His contract kept sliding.
Indirectly due to injuries. Really just because he did not play 10 NHL games in either of his first two seasons after the draft and ELC signing. Even if he played every AHL game possible, his contract still would have slid in 23-24 and 24-25.
