So WAS going on a rebuild.
Would you be willing to trade for Tom Wilson for prospect and futures ?
30 years old at 6,5mil for a other 7 years

Dude he's not worth $6.5 million today, let alone in SEVEN years from now.

How could you possibly want to trade for one of the worst contracts in the NHL? If HuGo gave up assets for that it would be one of the worst trades in NHL history no joke. Wouldn't happen under any circumstances.
There was never a point in time where he was worth 6.5m. That might be one of the worst value contracts in the league. Simply gross. They couldn’t add enough for me to take this on.

Yes there definitely was. Wilson had the ability to be an elite power forward but chose to concentrate on being a cheap shot artist.

For Ehlers as a rental. Florida's first and one of Engstrom or Kapanen?
No way.

I don’t think we’re at the point where we should be giving up firsts and prospects for rentals. If you look at the Hughes record it’s the exact opposite.

I think this year, with the two first round picks, and some contracts coming off the books, it will be considered the final year of the rebuild.

Hughes will finally have some fairly significant cap room to play with, his core locked down long term, and we may see some high UFA’s make their way to Montreal. Ehlers as a UFA makes more sense than spending assets to acquire him. Just my 0.02$

Nope, there wasn’t. Not one single season was Wilson ever worth 6.5.m. It would take a 200m cap for that to happen. This is a 35-45 point player we’re talking about. I don’t care about what might have been. He turned out to be a mediocre head hunter. I wouldn’t trade for Wilson with a 4m csphit for 7 years, yikes.

Trotz said on Nashville Radio that Askarov's on ice antics and constantly leaving his crease to argue with officials, played a factor in their decision to not move him to the NHL and to trade him.

I have zero doubt that this iissue went back to 2023 too.
I don't think we need that attitude in Montreal. If Trotz did that no doubt he's right.

lets pay for a rental while we are a bottom 10 team
seems like agood idea

Agreed, but was the poster suggesting that?

Not that I want to see that deal happen, but isn't the basic premise of "paying for a rental" based on the assumption that the trade would happen closer to the deadline and therefore made because the team is actively sitting in or just outside a playoff spot at the time of the trade?

We finished last season as a bottom 5 team. Remains to be seen where we'll be by January/February. With our prospect and pick depth, there are many scenarios I can see where it would be a good idea to pay for a rental at that time.

If this is true (actively pursuing rather than being open to listening to offers), I wonder what spots they are looking to upgrade...

RD seems obvious, though less obvious whom a realistic target would be.

R.Andersson is just about the only target that seems possible (clear upgrade & potentially available)

But at fwd it's a bit more of a ? Doubt we'd be targetting a top 6 blockbuster type upgrade, and not sure I see KH paying a premium for a third line C or middle 6 winger...

I like this headline even if the text of the piece is empty and worthless.

Roster upgrades: Yes.
Basically we are looking to upgrade at right d and want one more goal scorer. With right d being the top priority.

I think everyone can see that if you want Guhle to switch back to left d, then you need a good veteran right d to take a fair amount of minutes.

I don't buy that either, I think we start the season with the current roster and see where we are by end November beginning December before anything is decided. Hopefully we are not only contending with the better clubs but are healthy for a change!

All day every day. That man would solve a lot of our issues at RD.

Matheson - Anderson
Guhle - Mailloux
Hutson - Savard
Where's Xhekaj?

I think Guhle is still playing on the right side even if they get Andersson.
The idea is to stabilize the right side. If you remove Guhle from the right, there's still a hole.

Matheson - Andersson
Hutson - Guhle
Xhekaj- Savard

Ramage mentioned that they ideally don't want to insert too many rookies on D at the same time, and it makes sense at this stage.
