The reported rumor was Mailloux + 21st for Zegras and a 2nd.

Once Demidov was drafted, i don't think that Zegras was still in the plans.
Hugues talked about not wanting duplicates.

I think there was more than one trade scenario prepared involving the 21st.
How is Zegras a duplicate? He is a centre. Demidov isn't.

Getting out with Demidov was huge, and then Hage.

Must have shut down the Zegras talk.....

They're both small-ish high end talent top 6 forward types.
I think Zegras has also played wing.
Zegras being capable of playing center is a plus but i don't think it would've been the main reason to get him.
The Habs already have Suzuki and Dach to play C on the top 6.

What do you think Hugues meant by duplicates?

I don't want to give up LM. He is moar bigger and he is mean. Habs desperately need that.
We aren't getting rid of any of our young natural RD's.
The idea should be to get Guhle back on that left side sooner than later and then to graduate Reinbacher to pair with him asap.
The stink up is on that left side with both Matheson and Hutson looking at a redundant role.
I still don't think it's a great idea to be running both of them out there as our top 2 LD.
Since Hughes also said he doesn't like the idea of "hiding" I read sheltering Lane Hutson I have no idea what to expect.
It's going to be one crazy camp this year.

That is likely what Hughes means but I think they can afford to have Zegras centre one line and Demidov on the wing on the other scoring line. I would not be counting on Dach staying healthy if I was Hughes. I would be looking for a forward and can fill in if Dach goes down. Unless they think Beck will be ready very soon.

Difficult to say if they see it the same way you do.
I think they'll want a bigger body to complete the top 6 (if Laine doesn't stick around), but who knows...

Could be. Who knows how confident they are that Laine will stay after his contract is up? And if he stays and Dach keeps getting hurt another big body would still leave 3 in the top 6.

First time in a while that i fell we should not be trading anything anymore.

Top 12 next year will be top 10 NHL level.
CC-Suzuki-Slaf
Laine-Dach-Demidov
Newhook-Hage-Roy
Kapanen-Beck-Florian

Top 6 D in the top 10 NHL level as well.
Hutson-Reinbacher
Matheson-Guhle
Wifi-Mailloux

Depth , we got plenty good ones, Mesar, Heinemen, Engstrom, Koivu, Farrell, 2025 first pick.

Goalies ? Fowler as to pan out in 2 years top otherwise that would be the only weak link.

Who in the hell would you want to move out and bring in ???

Does that mean you'll leave the trade proposal forum alone?

Hage isn’t going to be ready next year.

You left out Andy, Gally, they are still going to be around.

Gally will hurt himself and be out of the game like Price.
Andy will be traded for a contender for a 5th or a 2nd with retention.
Savard as well, gone a the dead line for a high 2nd or late 2nd and a 4th .
Evans might be still in the lineup, we'll see.
Armia out, traded or not resigned
Dvorak traded at the deadline for a late 3rd

Seems like is our next Wyatt Johnston , he should make the team next year

Why there are so many people wanting to trade Savard. We're not gonna send a bunch of kids outthere. Reinbacher is not gonna be ready yet.
Reinbacher is so underrated, he will be ready for NHL in February once we trade away Savard. He already has two seasons of pro experience. Simon Nemec with NJD is very similar. Last year he was sent to AHL even if he was NHL ready at the camp. Once Dougie Hamilton got injured, Nemec came to NHL and immediatelly became top D for them. This can easily happen to Reinbacher.

I would not trade Mailloux. I think trading him would be a big mistake.
As always, it depends on the return. Would it be a mistake if Mailloux was included in a package that got us another top 5 pick next year and a chance to pick one of Hagens, Matrone, Schaffer, McQueen or Misa?

It also depends on whether Mailloux overachieves next year and unexpectedly emerges as a top pairing defenceman.

Too many variables and uncertainties surround this unusual prospect to adopt an inflexible position. Hughes will keep all his options open.
