If it were up to this board, the teams average height would be 5'8.5". At some point, you can't draft and trade for every undersized player in the league.
I mean there's at least a 30% that would have an average height of 6'5'' instead.

I mean he's only 23, and every player moved out of Buffalo has done fairly well in their new organizations if not taken huge steps up (Reinhart, Montour & Mittlestadt).
Chances are high Buffalo is looking at it only because Cozens is signed to $7.1m contract for the next 6 years. They don’t want to pay that if he's only a 40-50 pt guy (currently his pace is 38 pts for this season). He's averaged 51 pts over the last 3 years.

He’s not part of any team’s future. He could have been had for free off the wire recently and no one claimed him. Great guy for Laval this season.

But to answer your point, not every big sized player is paid like a star, so i'm not sure why the cap would be the biggest issue in building such a team.
He's basically another Dach, from the same draft year. Do the Habs really need another Dach?

Cozens is a far better skater than Dach. Nevertheless, Cozens hasn't taken the next step that Buffalo was hoping for when they signed him to that rather extravagant contract. But if Buffalo is looking to shed some salary and willing to retain something, I wouldn't turn my nose up at what I think would be a very useful player for Montreal going forward.

Don't expect Cozens to really be a C.. I'd be interested, depending on the acquisition cost but our wings are going to get too cluttered.
I'd wait for the right opportunity at C or RD.

Only Rantanen and is 6-4, so average is almost 6-6 and cap hit is below 86M. You could still get cheaper bottom 6 players and add some 6-4 stars like Kopitar, B. Tkachuk, Wilson, Malkin, Tuch, Stone...

To be fair, Buffalo doesn't seem to be able to judge their own players properly. Like at all.
Cozens isn't great, but he's just under 49% on the dot.
He's above Evans and just below Suzuki.
Obviously it's the cost and if Buffalo is actually looking to deal him, I'd hope the Habs are all over him.

There is an element of risk in any transaction. While I have often cautioned that you trade away elite skating skill at your team's peril, the opposite is also true; you should rarely pass up an opportunity to acquire elite skating ability. Cozens has elite skating. If Buffalo is anxious enough to rid themselves of an underperforming contract, let's oblige them. What about Roy and a third with Buffalo retaining 50%. So many here think that Roy is a certain top six forward. Sounds like a steal for Buffalo.

I would love Buffalo to decide to restart the rebuild and we get our hands on The Tage. He would be a perfect center for us.

Not disagreeing that Nazar is a better player than Beck. It would make sense when one was taken 13th OA and the other 33rd OA. But not sure that he's "quite ahead of Beck." Although they do play a different type of game.
Nazar is the top scoring rookie in the AHL right now with 24 pts (11G, 13A) in 20 GP. However, Beck is 4th top scoring rookie with 20 pts (7G, 13A) in 23 GP.

I think Buffalo would want more than that.. the Calgary 1st at minimum would have to be included but I think they'd probably be looking more at a hockey deal, I wonder if Struble might be an interesting add to their defense that represents an addition to their current roster.
But what I was saying is that we shouldn't acquire Cozens to be a solution at C, he's not really a great center, he is more of a power winger.. so if the asset cost is high, I would wait for another opportunity because with Slaf, Caufield, Laine and Demidov at wing, there's not a massive panic to add another winger to that mix.

Oh yeah, big time. We'd have to pay a premium, but he'd be worth it. There's probably no way they trade him inside the division though, sadly.
