HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #88: 2024-25 Season

Miller has a NMC, not Pettersson, they may not have a choice. Their core player is Hughes, who he sides with may also be important (no idea who that would be)
NMCs can be waived, my friend, and reports suggest he would waive for NYR, who actually make good trade partners for them. I don't see them winning a trade with EP, and it could be a disaster for them.

For sure it Can be waived but if he only waives for NYR then NYR has all the leverage. It would likely also imply Zibanejab would go back which VAN may not be very interested in.

VAN doesn’t like how he plays and they might want to get out from under than massive cap hit… basically, the assumption is they have cold feet.

They don’t want to rebuild though, so what can they do?
They must have liked something about the way he played before signing him to a massive contract or else someone in the organization had a terrible lapse in judgement.

I suggest we leave our team as it is because although we have played well in recent weeks there is nothing suggest we are done rebuilding. Taking on a contract of that magnitude would be a massive gamble for a player who is having issues with the team he's currently on.

There are teams that will take a shot at him or Miller but I don't think we will be one of them. Buffalo maybe?

I might be wrong, but it feels like with the team doing well right now, HuGo might take a wait and see approach for a while. Trade talks may only pick back up closer to the deadline, where they'll know if this is a playoff situation or not.
Even without any playoff situation, they might not move much unless they get high picks (1st/2nd rounds) and only Evans would bring that back and the current rumors is that Habs want to keep Evans and he want to stay.

There might be deals that are hockey trade done thought, but I feel that's a post season thing.

Miller is open to waiving for the Rangers but who's going the other way? What player on the Rangers is going to waive to go to Vancouver?

Miller is on the value contract while EP is not. Miller won't play nice with the NMC.

That's always a question, but the rangers are ready for change, and I see them as a team that can and will part with key pieces that will interest vancouver instead of picks/prospects other teams would offer.

No way Zibby waives his NMC. And he's signed till 38 I believe. Even if he waives, doubt the Canucks want anything to do with that declining contract. Would be Huberdeau round two (Flames/Panthers trade with Tkachuk)

Who else? Trocheck? Also has a NMC but turns to 12 team NTC after this year. Age 31 with 4 years left.

If the Canucks trade either of Miller or EP... they will want a proven center in return no doubt in my mind! Rangers want to make moves but their multiple NMC/NTC they have for several players is a major factor.

Laf and Schneider were discussed. I think a deal around Laf and EP would make sense.

That does not keep the Canucks competitive. Their center depth is not good with Miller/EP now and without one of them, it's much worse. Canucks need to get a proven center in return

Doubt the Rangers want to trade their youth. They want to unload their deadweight and aging players instead. It's pretty clear to me.

They will not get an equivalent C back in a trade for either one regardless. There will be a hole. This will not end well for VAN no matter what.

Sabres might have the best offer but that is for EP... Cozens and Byram.

Do you now see why they are considering trading one or the other?

Except if Laf Can play center it seems hard to imagine. Else I agree it could make sense.
Like I said, I don't see a good C coming back either way. If they want value NOW to help for THIS season, NYR are the best fit. They would be better served going for a trade in the offseason instead.

VAN still loses that trade with Buffalo. EP is too good for that package, IMO. After you trade that for EP, you are stuck with an ageing Miller. Franchise ruined. EP should not be dealt unless you do it in the offseason and get a great package back.

Dach
Matheson
Best of our 1st in 2025
One of Kapanen/Roy/Mailloux

Should be a package of interest for them.

Agreed. All depends on what other teams offer and if that center is better than Dach. However, I think Dach has more value than what you see on HF boards. Problem is it needs to be supported with other very good parts and if one of picks is 11-15 range, that is a serious add.

Dach
* Replaceable center that still has value and stands to improve as he heads towards age 25+
* Still RFA after his current deal.

Habs 1st or Flames 1st:
* One or both of these picks will be 11-18 range.
* Anybody saying that trading these picks will "ruin" our future is just wrong.

Beck or Mailloux:
* I would avoid trading Kapanen and Hage
* Beck or Mailloux is a good A- or B+ prospect dangle. Both of these kids are not small and have good development grades.

Newhook and Matheson on the Table:

* I value these two but if the Canucks want both or one, sure.

EP has a NMC that kicks in July. Something worth mentioning. With Miller having a NMC, it makes it difficult to trade him for the best value they can get. EP is like the Subban situation if they move him. NMC clock is ticking but will draw interest from lots of teams.

Beck and Hage are going nowhere for me.

If we add an early 10's pick, the other piece we add can be a B prospect or a 2nd rounder.

That said, I think this a pretty valuable package for the Canucks because the also get a top 4 PMD it's been reported they were looking for. But in order to work out, they would need to believe Dach is a decent/solid 2nd line center. So if the deal were to happen right now, I don't think they would be ok with the downgrade at 2C. But Dach is getting there slowly. Maybe at the deadline or this summer, it's another story.

I would rank Beck, Hage, and Kapanen this way
1) Hage (edge the other two for now until we see his pro game)
2) Kapanen (edge over Beck slightly)
3) Beck (could equal Kapanen but I think Kapanen is a better center)

I like him, but he's UFA. I don't think we should be picking up UFA players unless it's a sign & trade. He's also 33. NYI are only 4 pts out of a playoff spot, so I don't see them trading him unless they fall out further.

Standings are crazy tight in East.

Yeah, I can see a lot of movement to come in the east. Someone is sneaking in with less points than normal.

Imagine if the Habs get in and at the cost of the Sens? Would be funny. All I will say is the Habs are playing very sound team D with strong goaltending and this goes a long way for team momentum/confidence. It's a huge factor

I've always enjoyed your takes/scouting, clear and present danger!

Thing is, i think other team Scouts also read your takes. 😆 so we aren't getting anything for Mailloux!! Ughh.. we gotta just hope you're wrong, just this one time..
Thank you for your kind comments. All I can say is that as I’m now working on my third marriage, I have obviously been wrong more than just one time.
