Chicago doesn't have to worry about money as much as some other teams, and the most expensive salary years in Jones' deal will have passed by the end of this season. Including signing bonuses, Jones is due to earn $10.5 million next season, $8 million in 2026-27, and $7.5 million for the final three years of this contract.

But, again, this isn't just a salary dump and it would require the Hawks getting a top young asset or two for them to make the deal. But, if Chicago can get off the contract and another team feels it's getting decent value on a reduced AAV for Jones, this could happen. And Jones could use a fresh start.

From everything I've gathered, Chicago has had legitimate talks with the Dallas Stars about Jones. We'll have a better understanding where it leads through the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Foundation of deal feels there

Hawks retain $2-2.5M going forward (would seem like reasonable max for Hawks) and Stars can dump Dumba and his contract (Another year at $3.75M) in deal going back to Hawks

It's just a matter of what assets Hawks would get in deal to retain

Stars 2026 1st seems safe bet as ask from Hawks and then it comes down to what young prospect or player Hawks would have interest in that Stars would make available

Christian Kyrou and Tristan Bertucci are Dallas top 2 defensive prospects both were 2nd round picks (not including Bischel as a prospect who is now probably considered NHL regular).

If the Stars do add Jones it would mean their NHL 6-7 defenseman are set for a few years so could give up a defensive prospect as part of the deal.

Kyrou or Bertucci
Dumba (1 yr remaining)

For Jones with some retention.

A base like that would be solid..

I'd bet on a big resurgence with Seth Jones if we saw him paired with say...Heiskanen. And for some reason, it really does just seem like a fit. But that cap number is brutal to work around. Even with the cap set to skyrocket.

I hate to pump my own tires.... Even called the retention amount.

They have Benn& Seguin contracts going off the books soon

Heiskanen is signed at 8.45M longterm so yeah they can easily if they want to
Wyatt Johnston coming up. Roberson and Harley the year after. Oettinger starting his extension next season. Seems like it’s/will get tight fast.

Blackhawks have a ton of prospect depth on the back end, would probably be looking for a forward instead.
