The Big Fish would be Andersson but he won't hit the market until the last minute if he does at all.

I'm actually wondering if we can find a decent 7 who is a natural righty to spell Struble who should stick to that left side.

ROR doesn't have trade protection. Surprising.
Probably a more realistic option than Pettersson.

He's almost 34 though and has 2 more years on his contract.
But if the Habs think he still has enough gas in the tank, he could be a good fit and a stopgap until a guy like Hage is ready.
He'd be pushing Dach to the wing on the second line, or at least take the faceoffs. And he's a lefty.

But if he's made available, i suspect a lot of contenders will be after him.
I'm not sure the Habs would be ready to pay the price at this point, unless they're well into a playoff spot at the TDL.
 
I don't think the Pettersson scenario is the same as Eichel. Eichel was producing the same with essentially none of the casting support. For Petey, tendinitis is a very hard thing to overcome and it can limit a player's ability to play. The guy was lights out in his first playoff appearance so I'm not too worried about the lack of physicality. The skating/IQ/skill is just way too high end for him not to be a consistent PPG+ player at full strength.

It would be quite a ballsy move to go for him, but I also think he will cost way more than Eichel.

If it comes down to it, I can see Pettersson for Barzal.

I know it’s a petty squabble since it punishes both teams but until the NYR-Gorton relationship is mended, or perhaps if Drury is replaced, any trade between the teams remains unlikely.

Pettersson contract is the big hurdle for me. Could be best if we just pass on him.

I think he is too old to spend the assets on. The Habs could easily be a buyer but only for a guy who can be here long term. Unless he can be had for cheap (which I highly doubt)

Not a bad idea but he has to be a solid guy and be useful to the team also.

This coupled with his new contract is exactly why he wouldn't be a target for me personally.
Just take a look at his stats from his breakout 102 point season and this season. Clearly some combination of his injuries and the tendinitis have SEVERELY impacted his skating and top speed, which goes hand in hand with the drop in production we've seen. Who knows how he'll recover going forward, but if he doesn't get his skating back to where it was then he could end up being a 70-80 point guy making 11.6 million.

The trade deadline is March 7, two months from today. Lots of time left.

If the Habs continue their current play, then they'll be legit in the mix for the 3rd spot in the Atlantic, along with the wildcards.

It would make for some interesting decisions for HuGo.

One thing I would like to upgrade is Newhook. Finding a second line winger would be high on my list.
