Habs have the best bottom-6 in the NHL which has created that sum of the parts depth this seasons success has been built upon… 4-of those-6 players are “vets”

Well that would be my #1 choice, but I'll believe it when I see it this season.

If not this season, by the start of next season, so we don't need to trade for a mid term solution.

We definitely shouldn't look at rentals, it would be a terrible waste of assets.

You can't have Beck as the 13th forward, he needs to play. Trade Dvorak and replace with Beck (can't be worse) and keep Pez as the 13th.

If we are in the playoffs, he can be the 13th forward this year.
I'm not suggesting using him long-term as the 13th forward. That's probably Florian...or Tuch

Armia, Dvorak, Evans, there's a regular spot coming for Beck next year.

I'd only be concerned about our C depth at this point with Hage not yet ready to step in so I wouldn't mind getting a younger Evans back in the Evans/Dvorak/Armia trades.

I could get behind this.

Even if let's say they don't make the wild card, this gives us a player we would hope Reinbacher could become and same if we kept the 1st rounder we'd again hope to obtain someone who could eventually become a Dobson level player on defense or forward.

This would lock up the defense for awhile and look pretty solid. I love the pairings.

I have a feeling though this would be an off-season kind of move though.

Dobson is an offensive D who has issue playing defense. That's not what Reinbacher is projecting as or what we him to become. We want Reinbacher to be a reliable defensive D on the right side who can much big minutes.

I agree we need to strike a balance. But if anyone is giving us a 1st for Evans, you take that in you run.

Given that we have Beck already, that will have 1 AHL season in the bag.

They do a lot of inversions, it doesn't really matter where you put them in a lineup.

But yes, a natural RW is something we will be missing. Truth is, we have a lot of LW we use on their off sides.

If we are battling for a playoff spot, we shouldn't trade Evans or anyone basically.

Playoff experience for our young guys > assets we'd get for our vets.

We need to keep building a winning culture to stave-off the loser culture settling in like it has in places like Buffalo and Edmonton before McDrai. And that comes from taking part in meaningful games in Spring or at least trying to while still nurturing our young guys like Hutson.

Especially if the offers are 3rd or 4th rounders. Why the hell move Armia in this case? I hear he wants to stay and I bet we can get him for 3 years on a good value contract. We will need guys like this while our youth is developing. Look at how much it hurt with Kova being traded on the RD side

It's more that Beck is Evans replacement and playing the 21-22 years old who can match 80% of the performance is better asset management and be better than Evans in 2-3 years. We need 1sts for trades.

We might need to upgrade 2C and a RD - you only do that with player assets + futures + picks.
Hence our bank of 1st and futures needs to be full.

There is no sign that there is any kind of "loser culture" within the habs. The objective should be the cup. That comes from having the assets to build a cup-worthy lineup vs. spending 1st rounders on small un-significative playoff runs.

The objective of this year, was to be competitive for the playoffs. NOT starting to use present assets on present performance, that's next year.

I agree with this as well. However, it's a dilemma between when Beck and Kapanen are ready to replace Evans. If you move Evans for an offer we can't refuse (for example), then you use that 1st to combine with other futures to get a hole address through a trade.

Problem is none of us fans will know what the offers are for Evans.

If you are a Beck fan who believes Beck will be a ROR type, then there's something wrong in your salad. Beck is Evans, except he will be where Evans is earlier. I could see Beck becoming a Stone type later in his career.

Beck needs a spot to develop next year and Demidov will move Newhook out of the top 6. So probably Newhook is our 3rd C. Unless Beck is incredible at camp.

The other part to this is if we do move out several vets or pending UFA's, we will be digging into the Laval pool and that derails their playoff run. It's important we allow our youth to develop and also gain momentum/confidence at the AHL level too.

Interesting time for the Habs with their latest movement. Gorton/Hughes will have to carefully monitor the progression and impacts to any trade they make

It is unrealistic in the stretch drive of a season when the team is looking to get a wildcard spot to expect a rookie albeit high IQ like Beck to step in and perform at 80% of a young veteran who understands & has experienced high intensity late season & Cup final games

That we also need, because we need an upgrade to RD.

We need 4 or 5 1st rounders over the next 2 years to draft the support cast for the cup runs AND upgrade 2C and RD1. That's assuming Laine sticks around. A big assumption. If he doesn't, then we might need another top line player. I'm hoping Heineman/Roy keeps developing in that direction, but no guarantee there.

No they don’t IMO - Demigod’s arrival will upgrade top-6. Newhook will a slot down to 3C upgrade over Dvorak.

Fowler & Redenbacher will upgrade G and D over next 2-seasons, leaving picks & prospects to deal for top-4RD

Dach won’t be dealt he’ll be fine as 2C - I expect same trajectory as Mikka when coming over from Sens to NYR
