If we traded Matheson (say at the draft for the 13th pick like we did with Romanov to a team looking to win now) before Hutson is ready to QB the PP, could Dach or Suzuki QB the PP?

Dach
Caufield Newhook/Roy Slaf
Suzuki

Or could we sign a UFA (skeij, hanafin, dumba, montour)?

If I trade Harris it would be against a young forward stock behind a stack offense

Harris to LA for Kaliyev. LA isn't some offensive juggernaut (they're 18th in scoring in the league), but he is stuck on their 4th line and was a healthy scratch a while before LA made the coaching change. He has some offensive potential that could be unlocked with more playing time and opportunity that he'd get in Montreal.

He's also 6'2" and 209 lbs, and while he isn't known for his physical play, he is still a big body the other team need to contend with. And he has a wicket shot. He could be on the 2nd line with Newhook and would be a welcomed addition to the PP.

pretty sure Crosby would be worth more then Monahan

Crosby has a NMC in his contract and he will be 37 next year. Pretty sure the Penguin will let the captain choose his destination or he can force his team decision (kinda like Patrick Kane). Habs have been Crosby childhood team. Possible they let him end his career with the Habs.

Not a big Kaliev fan but yes that’s something that could make sense

Can we let our prospects marinate in the AHL.
Are you assuming we're all cannibals?

Great except he's no longer a child.

Well, maybe not this off season, but in 2025 Avs will probably lose Rantanen, so Sid could replace him. And I don't think he will command that much (6M I guess).
It will be more than 6M$. There is actually talk of 9-10M$ for a 2-3 years extension. For 2 years it might make sense. For 3?? a little bit too long.

As for the Habs, although i doubt it would make sense for him, i would be thrilled if he'd accept to finish his career here. a 1-2 punch of Crosby and Suzuki at center would be incredible. Dach would obvisouly be temporarely moved to wing, giving us a really interesting top 6.

2024-2025
Dach-Crosby-Caufield
Slaf-Suzuki-Newhook/Roy

2025-2026
Dach-Crosby-Caufield
Slaf-Suzuki-2024 1st pick
Newhook-Beck-Roy

2025-2026 would be the year we could make some noise in the east. But for that to happen and to make sense out of Crosby's acquisition, HuGo would need to also make a move on D, to get a solid top 4 RHD that can eat a solid 20-22 minutes. That way, Guhle can play 22-25 minutes on his strong side.

Guhle-Reinbacher
Hutson/Matheson-RHD mentionned above
Xhekaj/Struble-Mailloux
Struble/Xhekaj

All in all, what it means is you bypass the last year (or 2) of your rebuild and commit to being a contender by acquiring Crosby. So you better make it work.

He’s just a PP mooch and offers nothing anywhere else. We already have enough passengers.

we really think Pitt would trade Crosby to the habs???? here we go again

PLD, EP and now Crosby....??? lol
you forgot Zegras, Tkachuk
People are trade hungry. They will spin any name into a potential trade. Got to say, i'm also pressing F5 quite a bit these days. Unfortunatelly, it may be very quiet in Habsland at this TDL

Nah. It's just funny to speculate about it. We all know there is less than 1% chance it happens.

One question though : If Crosby says he only want to be traded to Colorado or Mtl and you are HuGo, do you try and get him? I mean it 's freaking Sidney Crosby but he doesn't really fit our plan and no matter how good he is, he would be 37-40 yo while playing for us. I mean, is that an automatic yes from our part? I'm really not sure.

People need to get a better frame of reference. Hughes has been one of (if not the) most active traders since he was hired.

To TBL: Matheson + WPG 1st + Struble + ?

To MTL: Sergachev

Why? Montreal's not looking for LD, Sergachev is coming off a bad injury and even before that hasn't looked good this season or last (in the same way as Matheson). Feels like getting younger and a slight upgrade at a deep position for way more money and term.

Cost for Vatrano is high.

Henrique will be moved.

Interest in Sam Carrick.

Teams calling about Gudas, but they're not doing that.

If Gibson is moved, it's the offseason.

Don't be surprised if they (Ducks) keep adding veterans. They want good vets around their kids

Zegras - Teams have tried. It's hard to replace talent. Unless they get an offer they really like, they're going to give Zegras a chance to prove that he can, or can't do. They want him to bulk up and play more of a two-way game.

Calgary getting some love. Didn't hear anything about them potentially being interested in Harris, but I'm still working, so I go away from being able to hear fully.

Heard the deal (Markstrom) fell apart because Calgary saw how Markstrom and the team was playing and feel they could make the playoffs

Thinks the Oilers were in on Tanev and Tanev was intrigued about playing in Edmonton. (Maybe Edmonton goes after him in the offseason if he becomes a fa)

Oilers looking at Mantha, Guentzel, but they're not the most likely destination for him

Doesn't see Edmonton getting a goalie.

Marek - Think Campbell with retention could be a deal, or are teams waiting and seeing if they just buy him out.

Friedman - it's a big ask, that's a lot of money. Basically said nothing.

La - teams looking at Matt Roy - unlikely he's dealt. Also adds it's unlikely for Kaliyev. Thinks they'll stand pat, maybe do something minor.

There's not a lot there in San Jose and other contenders don't have much left in terms of assets that they're wanting to move.

Teams calling Seattle about their d, but Francis is telling them they like their d.

They want to keep Eberle and it might not even mean they'll sign him before the deadline. Also mentions that they might want to keep Eberle just so he reaches 1,000 games played.

Talked about keeping Wennberg

Vegas going to try and get the best forward they can and maybe more. Possibly 2 wingers

Coyotes - Zucker, Dumba, Bjugstad, Kerfoot are possibilities. Thinks the last 2 are less likely.

Chicago - a lot of their pieces have already been taken care of by re-signing. Colin Blackwell is a name. Thought about Murphy, but he's hurt, so doesn't think he will move. Possibly Tyler Johnson

Randomly adds that some teams have said they won't be quiet, this was when they switched to Colorado. Colorado is likely one of those teams. Looking at centres who haven't been on team's radars. Teams think Landeskog will be back. Thinks they're still looking for a goalie. Was hoping for Fleury.

Wild trying to re-sign Bogosian. Not doing anything short term. Duhaime is an interesting name, might be moved if the Wild can't sign him.

Deal for preds with Tomas Novak is done just waiting to announce it. Possible more players get signed. Don't be surprised if Novak is the only extension announced this week. Nashville could add.

Friedman doesn't know what they think when he watches the blues, so it seems he's not sure if they're sellers, buyers, or both.

They've had a lot of players available, but nothing so far. Now the guys who people are interested in, he's putting out there, but the prices are things people won't like

Blues trying to change their d core.

Jets - doesn't expect Winnipeg to do much more. Might look for another d and might look to make room for Perfetti, but that's more likely in the offseason for next season

Canes made a legit offer for Pettersson. Thinks the Canes will go for goal scoring. Pens want prospects, not picks for Guentzel and Carolina has one of the better prospect pools in the league. They might drop their rule of not paying for rentals, but they might change that this year.

Columbus might be waiting for the GM to make a move. Could do smaller ones like Provorov and Elvis, but any bigger ones likely won't happen until the offseason

Says the devils are focused and hope Markstrom is their goalie. If they can't do it this week, they'll do it in the offseason. So, if the devils don't go out and get a goalie with term, it's because they're going for Markstrom again.

Devils not too eager to move Toffoli, they're going to try and re-sign him

Islanders are up to... hard to know, Friedman says he doesn't expect them to sell things off. Says there doesn't seem to be anything around Nelson (Ha-Ah)

Flyers looking at goal and a veteran forward.

More than likely that Laughton stays. Adds to the above that if you see the flyers go after that, they're aiming for the playoffs.

Pens are very likely to be sellers and sell what they can.

Capitals are taking a step back, so sellers. No one was surprised that Kuznetsov cleared. If there was a trade for him, it would have happened. He expects there will be a buyout in the offseason, if he gets there. Mentioned there was a deal close at the draft last year of Duchene for Kuznetsov and the deal fell apart.

Says he could walk away from his last year, like Zadina, but mentions that's a lot of money. It's a possibility, but unlikely.

Boston is looking at hockey trades and looking at depth. Bruins investigated trading him and has to be somewhere he's willing to go.

Give Adams a reason now to trade Mittlestadt now. He's likely dealt in the offseason

Detroit maybe Guentzel, but they're working on Raymond Seider. Detroit looking at left shot d. Wonders if the wings are looking at a goalie, even if they have 3 already. Marek adds a dman with bite

Florida looking at the better forwards on the market. Not sure if they're looking at Hanifin. Mentions they would like to get Forsling signed and mentioned a lot of teams like him.

There's a deal to get done with Reinhart, not sure how far along it is. It would be under Tkachuk

Montreal stuff here:

Friedman it just depends on if he gets something he likes. 3 goalies will go into the offseason if need be.

Savard, some interest, but wants to keep him. Everyone likes him, everyone respects him, but can he fit their pace.

Says there's a lot of interest in Harris.

End Montreal.

Couple of teams interested in Brannstrom. Not a lot of interest in Kubalik.

Ottawa wants to do something big, but this isn't the right time, maybe in the summer. They're taking a long look at the goalies. A lonnnnggggg look.

Speculates that Tampa might look at it as "this isn't our year" as to why Tampa might not make many, if any moves.

Speculates if they go out and get Hanifin, what's the ripple effect. Maybe no Stamkos then ?

Toronto- they keep losing defenseman. They're looking for defenseman. Dumba, Seattle d, Nick Jensen, tried to get Tanev and Zadorov together. They've looked at Savard they're looking at depth forwards and right handed d.

Interesting take. I rarely make proposals that are so heavily in our favor, but decided to do this one for fun. Notice we trade two LD's for one, so we use our depth at LD to improve the team.
