If you think my last sentence is correct, i'm not sure what we're arguing about anymore.
Anyway...

If you're just gonna try to discredit everybody who doesn't share your opinion by baselessly accusing them of being dumb, Fox News or something, then we're not going to get anywhere here.

Let's just wait and see what happens.

I am only discrediting those who are intentionally misrepresenting my stance and are mining garbage sources for material. Am I not supposed to provide opposition to those who build strawmen and misrepresent my position? Message boards are notorious for harbouring people who do not understand the principles of logical deduction and proper debating techniques and I do get tired of having to defend my points when nobody is clearly challenging them accurately.

When I am wrong I immediately and gratefully acknowledge my error and appreciate anyone who is able to correct/enlighten me....that is not what has been taking place in this thread. As you pointed out, there is no disagreement that Savard is better than Ceci and none of us would want Ceci on a contending team's blue line.

I think you just misunderstood my point but the other poster was in tin foil hat territory with a barrage of intentionally misrepresented strawmen and non sequiturs in an attempt to avoid facing compromise or admitting to his inability to comprehend my position.

I agree we won't trade him (even tho he is a disaster half the time) but he is 30 - so he is not entering his prime.
Plenty of defenseman get better in their early 30s. I think Jeff Petry had his best years ages 29-32.

There is literally no reason to believe that Edmonton wants to trade Ceci, it is entirely an internet narrative based on him being the only player on the team who's out going salary and term allows them to acquire Savard. They continue to play him well ahead of Kulak and Desharnais so clearly they would rather move one of them despite the quoting of Jfresh stats lol. Edmonton is reportedly more focused on acquiring forward depth anyways.

Savard is a 3rd pairing dman on a contender and is only a slight upgrade on Ceci who is more mobile and even by Oiler fans accounts a decent dman. There is no way that Edmonton is going to pay a 2nd to get rid of their 4th best dman who only has one season left at 250,000 less than Savard is making next season just to slightly improve their #4D with another player who also is not good enough to be a 2nd pairing dman on a contender.

The narrative surrounding this proposal on this particular board is just blind homer bias where Ceci and Holloway are being intentionally devalued while simultaneously over inflating Savard's tires in a vain attempt to justify an unreasonable proposal.

If Edmonton moves Ceci they will want to do it for a legitimate 2nd pairing defender but are having a tough time trying to find a way to acquire a Parayko or Pulock into the lineup due to their salaries. The notion that Edmonton is going to exhaust a significant portion of their trade assets to acquire David Savard is beyond ridiculous when he is clearly not the answer. The Holloway, Ceci and a 2nd is an entirely tone deaf proposal that is not honestly assessing Edmonton's situation.
Personally I’m not trying to deflate Holloway, he wouldn’t be a player I would be targeting…

Watching the Penguins fall apart, let’s say that they finally decide to rebuild and were amenable to moving Crosby at the draft, what do you offer? Factor in a three year extension.
I would offer Winnipeg or Calgary 2025 to have Crosby play for us 1-2 seasons. Winning the lottery and having Crosby would make us a middle-bottom playoff team.

Fair enough, I am sure there are many fans who feel this way. I see a kid with great tools who is only 22 and has played very well in the AHL and has had bad luck with injuries who just may need a different environment. I suspect that many GM's would view him similarly as I do, although there may be inside information that we do not have access to that league executives would.

For Anderson and Armia yes it’s not close Anderson is way better

For Harris Xhekaj, Arber is more a unicorn so you take him for 3rd pair role, but Harris can plays more minutes then Xhekaj can
While Harris hasn't showed me yet that his size isn't a liability for being a highly effective shutdown defender, Xhekaj hasn't shown he can not make costly mistakes when playing big minutes. But, Xhekaj has really stepped it up recently. I'm really looking forward to seeing how good he can become defesively. I'm hoping for Ben Chiarot in our playoff run, plus more offense, plus more physical intimidation.

I think Xhekaj is very focused on putting in th work over time to fine tune his defensive game.

It would be amazing to have Sid around for 3-4 seasons. I am sure he would still be 40-50 pts player even when he is 40 years old.
It is pretty much on Crosby whether he wants to move. If so, Habs would be premiere destination and we have a lot to offer to Pittsburgh. Draft picks or bundle of prospects (Mešár, Beck, Kapanen, Eriksson, Engstrom, Konyushkov, Heineman, Farrell, ...)

It depends on how BU does in the playoffs. If they get all the way to the Frozen Four tournament he's likely not playing NHL games this year. That tournament is April 11-13. Montreal ends the season April 15 & 16 with a home & home series against Detroit. Maybe.....

The final league games are this Saturday. Then Hockey East Championship playoffs start March 13th with a one game play-in for bottom seeds. BU is automatically into QF, which is the weekend of March 15, following weekend is SF, etc..

Then there's the regionals for selection into Frozen Four. That's March 28-31.

It's doubtful we see him in March at all.
Thx.............if we do not see him at all, at least he does not burn an NHL year on his contract.
Do we think for sure, he is leaving the NCAA next year and turning pro?

You understand that a ploy can be truthful right.....him announcing the truth is the ploy as he is leaving out a truth which is preference.. They may very well be fine with keeping him until the summer but they undoubtedly would rather trade him now. Hughes didn't say that keeping him was his preference as we know it is not nor is it Allen's preference who would much rather join a playoff team right now.

So....when someone announces something like this there is a reason that only half of the truth was told....alas a ploy!
Hughes............always tries to have leverage...........he absolutely uses some gamesmanship when trying to make sure this happens.
There are some truths, and half truths being used more often than not.....for sure.

If Sid waives his NMC or leaves as a UFA it will be to go play with a top contender like Colorado and play with his buddy MacKinnon.

Oh right, I forgot about his buddy MacK. So we are plan B that does not materialize. I guess I heard that before :(

That is very much a possibility but would he fit under their salary structure? He’d still command 9-10 million and they have Landy and Nikushkin sitting there.

I came across these two gems, so let's talk about them:

Do any of these trades make sense?

Picks and prospects-wise, anything. I'm so biased cause Crosby is my all-time favorite player and seeing him in a Habs jersey would be the ultimate dream come true. I'd personally derail the rebuild just to have him in the colors.

I'm not the GM which is good in this case lol.

Harris to Calgary makes sense. Once Hutson makes the team then there won't be a spot left for Harris. I'm not sure what we'd want from Calgary that's realistic though.

Well, maybe not this off season, but in 2025 Avs will probably lose Rantanen, so Sid could replace him. And I don't think he will command that much (6M I guess).
