Bergevin is that you?

Andy isn't wrong, if you look at the top 25 scorers, only 6 aren't with the team who drafted them.

The only ones who aren't with the teams who drafted them:

Panarin - signed as UFA
JT Miller - traded for 1st and a 3rd, broke out as a PPG player in Vancouver
Verhaege - signed as UFA, broke out later in his career
Tkachuk - wanted a trade out of Calgary, otherwise he'd still be there
Reinhart - traded for 1st and Levi, broke out as a PPG player in Florida
Forsberg - acquired for Erat (lol)

Teams are holding onto their stars, aside from drafting stars the best chance of getting one is to trade for one before they break out, like Hughes hopes to have done with the Dach trade.

Who doesn't think Matheson is worth way more than Romnaov?
Now, for sure.

But at the time of the trade Romanov was a hot young commodity.

Matheson has proven a lot but he's shown defensive Warts and is 30. Not a slam dunk we can get a 13th pick for him, i.e. what we got for Romanov.

"Neither team accepts" which is sometimes a sign the value is close. I'd accept that trade in a heart beat as a Habs fan. Even if we didn't want Sergachev as a piece of the future blue line, we could flip him for a good forward.

Well, I guess it depends on if you think 1 or 2 of Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj and Harris can be top-4 D. Because if you do, Montreal can probably use those assets to address areas of need that probably don't have internal solutions.

If Matheson has trade value and Montreal's moving a (late) 1st and decent young D, I'd want to upgrade RD or the forward group before looking at LD.

True, we could flip Sergachev in a three team deal to get a good young forward, maybe Zegras.

Don't think the kid would waive to come back to the habs.................man he hated us for trading him.

He got the last laugh.
Could be a 3way trade in which we ship Sergachev to like WAS or ANA for Leonard or Zegras

Matheson's value >>>>> Sergachev's value

Sergachev's contract = huge risk

This trade proposal = very unwise for the Habs
Not if its a 3way in which we send Sergy to a team like WAS or ANA (who could use him) for a young top 6 player like Leonard or Zegras

The Ducks need LD even less than the Canadiens do.

If that deal is on table? Habs have to make it

Gonna be a fun week :D

My dream is Armia, Allen, Pearson traded

But if kovasevic or Savard get shipped out I won't cry or anything either lol
Sadly I don't think any of these 3 get traded. There's simply no demand.

I think there's super sneaky interest in Armia, and a trade will surprise us all

Allen I agree is more diffic-..impossible to move, so that one would be a complete miracle from the gods

As for Pearson, pretty indifferent he either stays and we liberate cash in the offseason, or moved for whatever just to add more to that desmith/petry trade
Either way I'm good, it's not like he's an ANCHOR.. which we amazingly have 2 of now..

Hughes remains incredibly patient. Habs have 23 total picks in the next two drafts.
I think what's most likely to happen is that he'll retain on one of-
mattheson , savard, anderson, armia, allen IF he gets the offer he likes. He might also take an expiring contract back.
He may move a vet like Pearson for basically a 6th but I don't see him retaining because he'll save that slot for a player of more value.
He's less likely to move a young Dman - but maybe Harris? but not for a 2nd rounder *23 picks*. Would be dumb to move a good young dman for a pick. Target a young forward and add a pick if necessary

Pagnotta was on 690 today, said Oilers put their first pick and Ceci on table for Tanev. Obviously they willing to move their pick for upgrade on defense. Savard should be worth more where he has term left.
I don’t think Savard is worth more than Tanev even if they retain salary. If oilers offer a first Hughes should take it immediately.

Yeah you're both right. I jest, that's all.

When it comes to top star power, acquiring one that has broken out is much more challenging. It was true of the likes of Crosby, Ovi, Price even, in their prime time.

A tier under is a different story.

Yeah but atm we don't need a tier under, We need a star. Back when MB made the comment what we needed was a tier under. We already had Price a likely HOF goalie, Subban a norris dman and Patch a top 10 goal scorer in the league.

Patch was 4th in goal scored (17th in points) from 2011 to 2017 behind Ovy, Stamkos and Pavelski playing with AHL players. People really don't give enough credit to Patch what he did playing with the likes of DD and Weise is really impressive. So just a tier below center would have been fine back in the days. ROR, Zibanejad, ... anybody better than DD really which was not hard to ask.

But atm i feel like we need a star. Caufield is not there yet. Maybe he will but atm he is a tier below. Same for Suzuki. Again they could both still become those top guys but atm they are a tier below. A lot more goals are scored now than back in the Kovalev or even Patch days so you can't really compare their stats with those. 1 ppg in 2024 NHL is not that impressive. It's almost the 80ies again.

My trade deadline wishlist :

- Another 1st. Doesn't need to be 2024. 2025 would do although 2024 would be nice
- Goalie situation resolved. I think it's gonna happen this summer but who knows Hughges may be able to trade one of Allen or Primeau
- Getting rid of at least one dead weight contract (Anderson , Gallagher , Armia etc)

Now i don't expect all of this to happen but any one or a combo of those things and it's gonna be A1

Allen and Pearson saying they haven't had any discussions with Hughes recently. Pearson saying if he is moved, he'd like to be to team giving him a chance for another Stanley Cup.

Savard saying the message is the same from Kent. He's not looking to trade him. But Savard says you never know what can happen.

So in a year when we're clear sellers again with lots of pieces that playoff or bubble teams would likely make offers on, we're sitting on our hands? Nothing ever changes.

Sitting on our hands? Dont confuse the lack of results with lack of efforts. The reality is that there is nothing of value to trade right now. Savard, Matheson I dont think other teams are willing to pay for them. Peason, Allen and the others dont have value. So what are you expecting??
