Fleury not be traded.
To be honest he wouldn't be the starter on any playoff team so it makes sense. Why uproot your family again for a month or two of riding the bench? Who wants to be the guy who has 4 cups and only won one? To me it weakens his legacy rather than adding to it if he wins another as a backup.

I'm probably the biggest Fleury hater (sorry there were zero years he was ever close to Price and his only year of being a top 3 goalie was a shortened season and the GMs definitely chose him as a legacy award because there were no standouts, Varlamov had better stats and Vas had way more wins) there is but he's a lock for the HOF after passing Roy. Goalies don't need to be elite to get in, but if they're not they need to be durable and only Brodeur has been more durable than Fleury.

I think he comes back next year too with Minny on the cheap and tries to hit 1000 games started.

I guess maybe Edmonton he'd be the starter. Skinner has been hot after a horrible start though. Fleury's just not that desirable and I feel like the news is leaked to save face for him.

Lots of talk on Savard on leafs' radio this morning. I have been saying for months here that Savard to TO makes too much sense. They have been saying for th elongest time they will not trade their 1st for a rental. Savard is not a rental. They need a vet RD with size. Savard is a vet RD with size. The leafs need a cheap contract. Savard's cap hit, especially at 50%, is pretty cheap. I would trade Savard at 50% for the leafs' 2024 1st without hesitation. They are likely going to play the cats in round 1, so that pick will be pretty nice. It makes too much sense not to happen.
Who spends their leisure time listening to Leafs' radio UNLESS you're a spy?

Just joking.

You probably live in Ontario and want us to believe you have no choice BUT we all know you're a spy.:sarcasm:

"With Marc-Andre Fleury indicating that he wants to stay in Minnesota, the Nashville Predators telling teams that Juuse Saros isn’t available while they’re in the playoff race and the Calgary Flames in no rush to move Jacob Markstrom for a lesser offer, that doesn’t leave too many options.

That makes a goalie like Jake Allen much more intriguing for teams still looking to improve between the crease.

Frank Seravalli: I would say with regards to Allen that if there is a goalie to move between now and next Friday, the best bet would be him."

It's so easy and I don't know why Habs fans hesitated. It's not often you see a guy like EP on the market.

EP can easily worth 4 1st.
Why not just offer sheet him if that’s the case? Probably be cheaper than 4 firsts if he signs

I don’t agree at all. The Habs G stats are negatively influenced by the number of odd man rushes impacting their D zone entries - Habs are 2nd worst presently in the league.

G never net a significant return to begin with, but I wouldn’t classify as a giveaway

If other teams are watching the Habs, it ought to be a giveaway. Montembeault has outplayed him under the same conditions and outplayed him significantly.

If someone out there is looking for a goalie to run with, are you going to pay something for a guy who typically isn't able to carry the load for an extended period, and who is having a bad year to boot?

There's no value in that.

giving up a late 2nd for him.

And very little risk if you are giving up a late 2nd for him.

I’d trade Allen to the kings or avs for an equally expensive or worse contract and picks coming back as long as the term lines up. Same with Armia who has his faults but was a monster on cycle and possession in the post season when we had our run, a player that can elevate a fourth line or fit on a third line.

For some reason LA can always seem to squeeze the best out of 1b goalies as since quick and even with him injured they have scrapped by with very mediocre goalies.

I’d keep Savard, he will be more expendable next year as the younger D develop but right now he’s helping that process, that has more value to be than a 2nd round pick or even a late first

That’s the thing as many analytics types are pointing out teams like the Canes don’t need a G to “run with”, they only need one to help stabilize in a tandem situation, and Allen behind strong back checking fwd group like Car has, will not face anywhere near the same level of odd man rushes and D zone entries, thus more insulated

Flames are only 5 points out of a playoffs spot with 1 game in hands. They are on a 4 games winning streak. They also potentially don't have their first next season if they don't finish low enough. I still don't think they'll sell everything and tank. They'll sell Hanifin at the right price. But that's going to be it. Would not be surprised if they are active next summer and sign a guy or two.

Then a pissed Vancouver offer sheets Slaf or another young guy. We’ve played stupid games before.
Pretty sure i've seen this story somewhere but can't recall where.

I certainly hope so
