Allen is not a good goalie though. I have no trouble believing that. Allen is a dime a dozen number 2 goalie. It will be hard just to find a taker, I don't see him returning more than a 3rd round pick.
If we were in the offseason, i would agree with you that a 3rd is a fair price.
But we are in season now and there are teams in need. Prices go up.

Allen is one of the better 2nd in the league and can be a good number 1 for stretches. Not great, but good enough to be a stop gap for Edmonton.
And Skinner can't play all the games. They need a good 1b/2a to help him.

And our worst d on defense.

Monty is better than anything Edmonton has. Primeau might be. Thee is probablynothing better out there. For example Mrazek is crap compared to Monty.
Is Bouchard really worse than Barron defensively? They both do nothing and have awful awareness, Bouchard just gets exposed more because he plays more

I don't think he's worse defensively, but:

1) If Barron was the bar, why would anyone want the Habs to trade for Bouchard; and
2) I was actually curious and looked it up, and their 5v5 usage this season is actually incredibly similar (QoC, Zone Starts, TOI). The difference between their ice time is entirely on the PP, which wouldn't show that he "gets exposed more".

I think Bouchard is clearly better (now at least) even accounting for his teammate quality, but I don't see how playing on the PP more would expose Bouchard more.

Piere Lebrun says that the Oilers and Canadiens have not had ANY trade discussion whatsoever about ANY of our three goalies.
Makes sense. None of our ponies are the thoroughbred horse that the Oilers need. They're not going to spend valuable trade capital for freakin' Montembault.

I liked on the Oilers board and the word from their Twitterati is that their 1st is not on the table.

Anyone see upside in an Oilers’ offer that does not involve them coughing up a first rounder?

Are Bourgault, Holloway, 2nd rounder(s) incentive enough to beget a deal? Maybe we can do better elsewhere.

Oilers drafted so bad I have very little interest in their propects. Holloway only one. I semi like him.

I don't see how Bourgault/Holloway aren't at least worth a consideration for a guy like Monty.

If they turn into cost-controlled third liners with some skill, versatility, and a bit of jam (in Holloway's case at least), then we're laughing. Both can play C, both are still young. Give Holloway the Newhook/Dach treatment and hope he rediscovers some of that potential.

Monty doesn't currently appear to be an A1 goalie, is not terribly young, and doesn't have a contract next year. A 1st would be great but I'm not going to turn my nose up at other assets.
