Well, okay...umm, I guess I take it back...maybe Mrazek is a good idea...
That's up to you. But Mzarek has worse save Percentage and gaa than Montembeault while being Paid 3 times as much. Playing on similar teams. A player Oilers fans say won't help them.

Just heard Stephane Waite say on 98.5 that, according to his contacts around the league, Jake Allen is worth maybe a 4th round pick at 50% retained.

With the shortage of good goalies around the league, i have a hard time believing that.

Teams prefers having no goalies then giving anything for them despite the shortage. It's been like that for a few years.

I think part of it is that there aren't any who can take the 50-60 game loads anymore (very few exceptions) so the GM just consider all goalie trades to be backup/3rd string goalies trades and easily replaceable. It's unfortunate that goalie's salaries aren't reflecting that thought, "backups" are now paid $4-5m...

What are the odds when can get him instead?

Thats like saying

Joni Ikonen > Ryan Poehling.

Or

Big trash > even bigger trash

I mean, Jake Allen is not a solution to the shortage of good goalie

It's shocking to me that Edmonton hasn't made a trade. It's hard to underscore how hard it is to make up the points lost early in the season. They will have to play as one of the league's top clubs for the next 60 games to be able to make the playoffs. Hard to imagine that is possible with that defense and goaltending.

Yes, that is why they may not have made a trade yet. They may know the season is lost. Thwy would have sacrifice the future only to miss the playoffs.

Having said that I do think they need to give up the futures to move Campbell out for next season, because they need the cap space to put a competitive team around Draisaitl and McDavid. Same with Ceci. I think nurse is immovable. From the sounds of it, they should use Evan Bouchard as a trade chip to get a good young defensive dman.

If he is dealing with Hughes on any trade its probably Hughes holding things up.
Holland wants top 5 protection on his 1st, Hughes has conceded on that but after watching that florida pick fall so far Hughes is insisting on Bottom 5 protection that is if the pick is 28-32, Hughes can defer to the next season. Holland is confused, having slept through the most recent expansions he cannot figure out how a 1st round pick could end up being 32nd. He is pretty sure Hughes is trying to pull a fast one on him.

Oilers staff have explained expansion pointing out that "we lost to one of those expansion teams, Vegas, last year" but Holland insists they are not an expansion team. He remembers reading that the Golden seals were moving from Oakland to Vegas. He then mumbled something about "goaltending we don't need goaltending, we have Nick Lidstrom - Chris (Osgood) will be fine"

The writing was on the wall the moment they named Paul Coffey as defense coach when the guy has zero experience coaching and zero interest being a coach and named McDavid's junior coach the new HC.

They are 100% tanking and the only trade Holland is looking for is a cheap way to move long term cap cap for short cap dump that will disappear at the end of the season. Then he will overpay for more scrub in the off-season with the free cap space...

If Edmonton is actually tanking then we should see McDavid and Draisatl out for the season at some point, to get their surgeries and/or rehab as early as possible.

We're gonna trade a bad goalie + a bad defenseman + some other garbage for Bouchard + some other garbage, it is so obvious
Would Bouchard help us? We're set on d for the next 17 years.

If we ever landed Bouchard, I'd hope we'd trade him for a forward or a good draft pick.

this team needs scoring forwards. enough D men.. at the draft they never went for a forward in the 1st round.

The last thing we need is another immobile defenceman.

This may be a post that is better suited for the tank thread.

To EDM: Montembault + Jake Allen (50%) retained.

To MTL: Jack Campbell + Stewart Skinner + 2024 1st + 2026 1st + Bourgault +?

Roll with a Skinner-Primeau tandem with Campbell in Laval.

To EDM: David Savard 50% retained by a 3rd team for a 3rd.
To MTL: Cody Cesi + 2028 1st

Habs never put him on waivers, so they must have thought he'd been claimed.

Allen is not a good goalie though. I have no trouble believing that. Allen is a dime a dozen number 2 goalie. It will be hard just to find a taker, I don't see him returning more than a 3rd round pick.

I think Allen is a very good number 2. At 50% retained he's a really good asset.

But if the return is only a 3rd, is it worth using a retention spot?

Montembault- Allen have been a good tandem this year. What is Montembault-Allen 50% retained worth? What is that tandem worth if we take Cam0bell's contract back?

We won't make that trade and I admit he'd probably be redundant on our roster, but seeing DLO put a whooping on fools would make another lukewarm season more bearable for me. With the Flyers having a decent start to their season, I wonder if we could flip them one of our slightly more talented spare parts to bring the big guy back home.
