There is zero chance the Jets trade McGroarty for Monahan. Expect pick(s) or lower end prospects like how Heineman was with the Flames.
Not sure of course, but Monahan could very possibly be a bigger asset for 2 months than Lindholm. Goals are arguably a bit more important than points.

Chiarot's is because he (like most veteran physical shutdown D) are overrated among teams and undervalued on these boards. I think Toffoli was generally viewed as being worth a first +, the quibbles were about if teams were able to take him without retention (Montreal ended up taking Pitlick's contract back to make it work for Calgary).

Lehkonen was the strange one, but from what I remember it depended on the fanbase. I recall Avs (and Rangers fans, but he wasn't traded there) being particularly ignorant of both him as a player and what Sakic would do, but other fanbases were more reasonable.

It feels like part of the Monahan thing is the fanbases involved. Flames fans are (rightfully) salty that they spent years hoping Monahan would bounce back, saw him moved with a 1st and now see that he could get a 1st as a rental. Jets fans are probably pretty tired about all the Dubois discourse and are feeding it back to the more unreasonable Habs fans. It depends on the Avs fans, but a lot of the ones that didn't know anything about Lehkonen are also ignorant of what Monahan has done in Montreal.

Ignorance is definitely a big factor.

& the volume and range of Habs fans on this board understandably irritates the smaller market teams... Heck, the arguments and disdain among Habs posters on the site is just as, if not larger lol

Bottom line though... Hard pressed to find knowledgeable fans or pundits that have actually watched/followed Monahan since he was cast off by the Flames at a high cost who don't universally recognize his strong play and impactful contributions.

Health is the major concern. His play this season certainly assuages some of that concern... And his cap hit removes the cap dump/retention need & makes it easier for a buyer to also target other roster improvements more readily.

All in all, he's one of the better deadline targets in recent years and I suspect the return will reflect that... Much to the chagrin of the less informed posters of the buying team.

Assuming Lindholm gets pp1 time and quite possibly plays on a line with EP, he's in line for a big bump in production... He was visibly disengaged with the flames (which should give pause to anyone meeting his large UFA contract expectations), going to Van + knowing that he's got a chance to redeem his offseason value + playing with a high talent top 6 & league leading offensive dman is a recipe for a major stat line bump.

Monahan, conversely, might well slot into a 3C role depending on the buyer & could conceivably see his production dip a bit even while being a bigger net boost to the team's performance & playoff success... Fans generally over value the simple stat line & undervalue the context and W impact of most players

Hope we don't get a let down
Hughes havent let us down so far. I have faith he is working on a big trade either at the deadline or at the draft to bring a 21-22-23 years old top 6 promising player to fit in with our core. My favorite one would be Zegras

That's what I say they need to sit him to make sure that they get this right

I wouldnt sit him it would shows we are afraid he might get injured. Let him play, scores more goal and increase his value. Force teams into a bidding war. We have been so unlucky in the past years, decade. I feel luck is turning in our favor. So far we are having a flawless rebuild. In 2-3 years we should start reaping the rewards of our patience

Too much of a gamble for me when this is the big piece that could help us land the prospect I guess we'll see

If they sat him, it would just be for a couple of games following the Habs’ bye week — assuming a more aggressive pursuit by those serious teams left out of the Lindholm sweepstakes.

You dont sit a player a month and half before the deadline. Maybe a week before but there is still too many games to be played before mid march

I couldnt care less about that survey. 146 poins in the nhl at 22 years old is anything but overrated. The same polls that keep saying Price was the best goalie in the league when is number were more than average. It reek jealousy of his skills IMO

And Caufield was in that list last season FYI. Do you consider him overrated too?

M Tkachuk and Robertson are on that list can we agree that list is BS

And if it means is price would be lower to acquire then its good news. But dont believe GM put too much stock in those so call polls
Do you wnt to give up our top 6-10 pick this year for him?
Cause that is probably the ask.

If it comes to that I would do it. A 22 years old player who already ready to roll in the NHL as more value in our rebuild than a player that will be in the NHL in 2-3 years. I dont want Suzuki to be 30 when we start contending.

I would prefer though to dangle calgary 1st with lets say a Struble than trading our first pick. But ultimately yes I would accept our 1st pick top 5 protected for Zegras

I would try to get Zegras. Exemple, Colorado want Monahan for his leadership, low aav etc. Then make a 3way trade. Tell colorado to give assets to Anaheim. Montreal give asset to Anaheim. Colorado get Monahan. montreal get Zegras

Agreed
Need players now , not in 3 year's

I would rather the Habs deal from strength and add a LD to Monahan and try and pry a top scoring prospect rather than picks and lesser prospects. We don’t need quantity.
