Not sure the Ducks would want a top 5 protected pick for Zegras.

I go back and forth on whether I want us to target Zegras. I think we'd have a much better chance at a cup down the road with Dach as our 2C instead of Zegras, but does anyone know if Zegras has spent much time on the wing?

I still don't see how we could trade for him unless it's through a ton of draft capital. Anaheim won't want older players, they won't want defense prospects since they're stacked there like us. They'd probably want a high end forward back if they're giving up Zegras, or a bunch of high picks that could either draft one or be traded for one.

Come to think of it, should Hughes needlessly delay a Moneyhands trade by arguing over fringe elements and the risk of injury materializes, then there should be a Monahahaha jersey made for that too.
True but I doubt he would refuse a trade over fringe elements. If he wants a 1st and a B prospect and he is offered a 1st and a player he doesn't comsider a prospect probably.

Ducks aren't really stacked on defense after the Gauthier- Drysdale trade.

I would be willing to add Xjakaj and the Flames first pick for Mavrik Bourque.

Monahan
Xjakaj
Flames first pick

Vs

Mavrik Bourque

With that offer..no way that Dallas would laugh to your face.

It is a serious offer.
Habs be crazy to trade Flames pick. They rebuilding and that's a great draft

not crazy at all. We are at point with our core that is better to add 21-22 years old players nhl ready. Im more than willing to trade some of our picks to get offensive help. A pick in 2025 means the player will be in the NHL normally in 2028

Zegras can play on the wing. I like Dach with Suzuki but I have no problem seeing him pivot the second line

Arber should be used in a combination with out first round pick + to get offensive firepower.

You take a flyer on a guy like Kakko with a rental like Moneyhands.
Im not trading Xhekaj, hes the perfect guy to bring respect to our team. Every player play a bigger game with him in the line up. I think Struble as a similar value to Xhekaj , I would rather trade him

Monahan + Harris
VS
Brad Lambert

It would upgrade WIN C and blueline for the PO and Harris is an upgrade on their bottom pair and and also someone who may stay in their org long time.

Scheifele and Hellebuyck stated that they wanted to stay because when they traded Dubois, they did it as a win-now move and not for future.

A trade like this is in the same fashion.

Tho, i doubt Lambert is available. McGroarty is absolutely not available. Maybe if they panic and want to match VCR move. I would prefer Lambert to a late 1st but i think in the end we may have to settle for a bundle of picks including 1st RDer, which is incredible considering we already had a 1st for Monahan.
If Hughes can get a prospect like Lambert for Monahan ill eat my hat

I don't think Kuzmenko is a real cap dump. He is in the sense that Vancouver had to free some space but he is a good player. It's a cap dump that you can get value for unlike Tanner Pearson. The guy scored 39 goals a year ago. He's paid too much but there will be interest at the deadline 2025 if he bounce back just a bit next season and he'll have lot of TOI and new contract insensitive to do so. It's very possible he is worth at least a 2nd round pick next deadline.
It is crazy to think he is a cap dump. He is just having sophomore slump which is very common. His contract expires next year and I am sure there are at least 5 teams in NHL who would take him for free immediately, maybe even Montreal.

That's a lot of work for a team that still likely isn't a playoff team and has way too many player that play suspect defensively.

You can always sign a veteran D to help stabilize the defensive if Barron doesnt take another step and Mailloux is not ready. I am pretty confident in a 3rd pair of Xhekaj-Mailloux. Nxt season is still a learning season IMO I dont expect the playoff next year but in two season we have to be or atleast fight for a playoff spot

If we're going to acquire Zegras, then there's no need to acquire Kakko and give up a good asset. There are limited spots in the top 9.

The roster is missing Anderson, and we also have Farrell, Beck, Heineman, RHP, and Mesar (in a couple of years) who could play in the top 9.

Trade him now - 1st rd pick might be conditional on staying healthy.

Trade him later - might be able to get a 1st rd’er that isn’t conditional. In the meantime, load management.

Sit him - given his history, it might make the buyer suspicious of a nagging injury.

Either way, injury/health can derail the plan to get the 1st rd pick.

I’d be inclined to wait and deal with a wildcard team, no conditions.

Yeah if we add Kakko , I trade Anderson at the draft.

But Zegras is my priority , I can live with Anderson on the 3rd line instead of Kakko

I was high on Barlow last draft. But this year his numbers not advanced. Some draft/prospect experts need to common on Barlow
That's why I think he might be available in a Monahan deal. He has progressed the least of the Jets top prospects. At least point wise anyway. He still has 22 goals in 29 games.

You’ve seen the minutia from that Calgary first rounder deal. I never said he would refuse a deal over fringe elements but Hughes comes across as a stickler and there may be more back and forth on account of it.

Where I expect there will be some haggling is with playoff performance/ games played thresholds. Like others in here, I anticipate any acquired early pick(s) to be conditional.

OK. I get it. And that is likely. If there are several teams making offers I expect Hughes to not accept conditions on a very late 1st since teams consider there is a drop after the top 20.

From Lebrun

"Sean Monahan now goes to the top of the list of available centers who are pending unrestricted free agents. And Hughes has plenty of time between now and March 8 to work the market his way. As I wrote earlier this week, if I’m Montreal, I’m certainly trying to work the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche against each other and create a Central Division arms race. Both clubs, I believe, have interest in adding a 2C. The New York Rangers, Boston Bruins and several other playoff-bound clubs also make sense."

Gib back our pick!
