That is fine that is also what I would aim for, I rather have quality than quantity. Think CGY might have settle to quickly for quantity, since Van had 2-3 prospect real good prospects and there still a sometime before the TDL.
Quality - Busty might be a future Norris winner

This "39 goalscorer 74 point forward" is disingenuous, nobody wanted him, Canucks had to pay extra to get rid of him. Lindholm's skating and defensive play are way better than Monahan's too. You'll be setting yourself up for disappointment if you think we can net something similar.

@Runner77 has to modify this pic to match your line!
There has to be a horse's head in there, for Chevaldayoff!

The Ekholm trade was a step in the right direction and with McDavid and Draisaitl needing contracts soon, he may need to get more ballsy.
True but this time around Holland is a sitting duck GM. One of McDavid’s buddies is rumored to replace him at the end of this season.

Sure is going to be interesting what happens now. This could well be the key part of our rebuild right here. Especially if other players like Allen, Armia, Savard and Matheson are shipped too. How intriguing.

I wouldn't expect much. Allen's contract is an issue, if he does get traded it would be an offseason thing. I doubt they will retain on Armia for two seasons to get like a 3rd,that's probably a next deadline move. Savard is someone that I could see a team paying up for but still unlikely, especially with retention. Matheson likely isn't going anywhere.

We will trade Monahan and that's about it. Maybe Pearson if we can fool a general manager.

Monahan, Savard with a cap dump in return, Pearson and Harris, Kovacevic as add ons are all possibles.

Harris is also probably an offseason move. I used to think Kovacevic would net a 2nd given his contract status but the guy completely fell off a cliff in terms of play. I feel like we'd get the same pick as we would right now if we trade him next year, might as well just keep him and have the young guys be in Laval for a playoff push.

Had the same hope that Kovacevic might fetch a Kulak-like return before the start of the season considering his AAV in the context of the 2023-2024 frozen cap, but that ship has unfortunately likely sailed…

Now the only way I see him generating somewhat significant value this TDL is if a team wants to cap dump a RHD to Montreal and Kovacevic is the depth piece going the other way…

He might be,I was pretty high on him D-1…
But he let be honest he wasn’t one of Vancouver top 3 prospects, probably no even top 5 before the start of the season. There lot of D+1 3rd rd pick each year having great or better season than expected and not many off them end up winning major award… Calgary had the highest values player, they were the first to move and even if there lot of pieces I think Vancouver will likely win this trade they get closer to a cup, they get rid of Kuzmenko contract 5.5M$ (who was the odd man out), not sure they will regret moving Brzustewicz or Jurmo and that late 1st statistically it far from a sure thing…

For the Sean Monahan Sweepstakes -

If it’s Winnipeg:

I’d base it around,

To Winnipeg - Sean Monahan, Justin Barron

To Montreal - Colby Barlow, 2024 2nd round pick (Montreal’s), 2024 3rd round pick.

If it’s Edmonton:

To Edmonton: Sean Monahan, David Savard (50 percent retained)

To Montreal: Dylan Holloway, Jayden Grubbe, 2024 1st round pick

If it’s New York Rangers:

To New York: Sean Monohan

To Montreal: Gabe Perrault

If it’s Colorado:

To Colorado: Sean Monohan

To Montreal: Calum Ritchie

Something along those lines anyway.

Winnipeg deal might work. Barlow is likely the least valuable of their top forward prospects. I can see it working.

Edmonton deal could also work. They would be getting two players. Ceci likely comes back in the deal as well. I could see Edmonton not giving up Grubbe or giving up a 2nd rounder instead of the 1st.

Habs have to likely add for the Rangers deal. I don't think they'll give up their top forward prospect for Monahan alone. Goodrow is their only bad contract, but he has a NTC and I doubt he would waive it for Montreal. I would want more than Perreault if the Habs took back Goodrow anyway or maybe send Armia back the other way if Goodrow were willing to waive.

Colorado deal falls under the same category as Rangers deal. Perhaps the Habs could take Johansen back to make it work. He only has one year after this one at $4M. If he's decent for the Habs next year they might be able to flip him at 50% retained at the deadline for an additional asset. Teams are always looking to add depth up the middle.

I am concerned that teams might be worried about Monahan's injury history. They may not want to cough up too much for player that is snakebitten when it comes to health. I'm preparing myself for a lower return. Something like a conditional 1st based on number of games played for the rest of the season and playoffs or a 2nd and 3rd rounder or equivalent prospect.

If Dallas is in the mix, I would go for Monahan vs Mavrik Bourque.

Just turned 22 years old with 47 points in 39 games in the AHL
