Shout out to Dach  Not the right thread but nice to see Turdordi the useless plug that he is got his face pummeled in a fight with San Jose.

Personally I would love it. Give him a 3 year deal.
The idea of it is amazing but him and Dach would probably play about 20 games each a year. I see why Tampa is moving on from him, to be honest. He's hurt almost every year and they won a whole cup without him.

Has to be something wrong with Zegras for him to be available. Because if any team calls about a player like Caufield going to be automatic no.
People said the same thing about Dach. Sometimes teams are in situations where they don't want to lock guys in as core guys, for whatever reason.

From my point of view, ANA is flush with young F prospects, and they just got a good one in Gauthier that reports are saying plays the type of game that their GM is looking to build. Not only that, they've been into a contract negotiation with Z already and know what he's looking for/what it'll take to sign him. All of these can make a team potentially balk.

We need true top 6 guys and we've got no one like Zegras on our team or in our system. He's a young player who's developing and, if available, will be a similar move to what Hughes has already done since being here.

I couldn't say it would be an automatic no for me because if a trade makes our team better as a whole, then I would definitely consider it. With respect to Zegras, I'm not a fan of the player. Yes he's talented offensively but I don't believe he makes a team better when push comes to shove.

He's taking penalties at the rhythm of goons despite not hitting more than Caufield, being soft and not fighting.
Can't be bothered playing unless he's in the offensive zone.

Caufield is a much better and complete player than Zegras.

This kind of thinking is why we can't have nice things 😜

Interesting. Why is that?
He's UFA, so an extended audition till July 1st. I'm just trying to be creative in the ways we can move out longer contracts we don't necessarily need, like Armia or Gallagher. Moving Gallagher is very improbable though.

For Anderson maybe?

Zegras is simply not a Pat “little ball of hate” Verbeek type intense player - old school vs new school personality clash.

Leo Carlsson is intense, Cutter Gauthier is intense, Zegras is “showtime”. Reminds me of Subban’s personality clash w MB

Zegras needs a millennial hockey whisperer like MSL - who BTW coached him at MidFairfield

Verbeek played with incredible passion and intensity. He came from an era where floaters were held accountable.
There is a reason why Verbeek played hardball with Zegras in the last contract negotiations, he does not like him.

The only way I'd trade for Zegras is if MSL wanted him. But still I'm not offering prime assets.

They can have Calgary first 2025, Josh Anderson and Jordan Harris.

Carlsson has a Josh Anderson body. An intense player who's body is too fragile to play the style he needs to be able to play. Gauthier is intense but does not have Zegras' talent. In any event MSL will know if Zegras can become the type of player a champion team needs.

Zegras is no longer on ELC & on pace for a 30-pts season, and all the offseason contract turmoil labeling him a problem child…. all this will inevitably reduce his market value.

Zegras was a 9OA pick, if Habs end up with 10-14 pick as I suspect, they will flip like the Dach & Newhook deals

Zegras has more actual skill sleep walking and barely going 50% than Mantha had in his best season in the NHL, which was 5 years ago by this point. I'd be fine with looking at Mantha next summer as a free agent but I really don't see the point of trading anything for him right now,

Just as Al Murray was a brilliant (and lucky) hiring by Stevie Y back in 2010, HuGo & MSL are of the same mold.

Timing couldn’t be more perfect - Hughes & MSL have in depth personal knowledge of the USA Hockey northeast talent that has been drafted over past 5-7 years - those within the Habs system and those playing for other orgs

I’ve always been of the view, “great drafting” is purely based on recency bias - having seen talent from a 5-year window develop combined w timing. Al Murray was a mediocre scout w LAK got axed and ended up being Team Canadas head of scouting watching Point, Cirelli from early teens - then timing .. got TBay job as both players became draft eligible, Murray had inside knowledge others simply didn’t like Hughes & MSL do currently
