Then that's KH job to figure out, I really think it could be done. We are right there IMO and ready for the next step as of next season, the # 10 overall that will be ready in 3-4 years is too long. But that's my opinion

All his picks was 1 through 7 or extra 3rd and 4ths, I'm saying both our 1st this year and Calgary's + young players. Calgary's pick could be a great one, but it's a risk I'm willing to take for Celebrini

That 1st overall is a rebuilding team that will win it with a fan base that would go nuts if they trade that pick. It just can't be done.

Would you trade it, if we win?
It's not about the prices being right or not, when you win the lottery, you take the money, you don't try to exchange it for thousand of other lottery tickets just to try to win it again.

I keep hearing people have goalie problems all over and with Allen's performance last night, we are starting to have three pretty damn good goalies, it's gonna come knocking at our door like crazy soon enough. We could even trade two of them to get good material. And pick an average one as a backup(Fleury?).
According to the Athletics, there is a lots of goalies available this year to trade. So I don't think Hughes is going to trade any of them, maybe one of them off-season. All 3 are signed for next year too.

With Barron a healthy scratch, I'm now wondering if he might be on the block.

RD with high end offensive talent are rare, and with Reinbacher and Mailloux coming up (as well as Matheson doing a good job offensively, and Hutson coming up), it's possible he'd be available if a GM always liked his game.

I personally don't see Hughes being in any kind of rush to move any of our young D. We still don't know definitively what we have with any of them, while they all still have plenty of room to grow. I can't see him being hasty with fear of regret later.

I'm not saying he won't, if the deal makes sense and we get proper worth, and helps the team with it's other needs. But he surely won't move them just from the standpoint of having his cupboard too full.

For sure, but at camp in 9 months, I expect RD will be Savard, Barron, Reinbacher, Kovacevic and Mailloux, with LD of Matheson, Guhle, Harris, Struble, Xhekaj and Hutson. It's possible Hutson and Reinbacher stick in the AHL for a while, but all of these guys will need NHL ice time pretty soon. We won't be getting much for some of the depth or very green guys, which is why I could imagine Barron being the one moved out.

Let's consider how it's a good thing we moved out Edmundson last season, by camp this season it would've been blatantly obvious that there were too many guys for the number of slots...

Edmundson made sense, he was a veteran that we squeezed every last drop out of and was clearly in the way. These young guys are fruit not close to being ripe yet.

It's not the same at all.

I know it's not the same.... just that it's better to make moves ahead of time, and not once there's a clear issue. If I were GM, I'd be trying to figure out if Mailloux, Reinbacher and Hutson will be pushing for NHL slots next season. If clearly all 3 need to spend the 24-25 season in the AHL, then I still have 8D, but can accept that we might lose Kovacevic eventually... but if I think any of the kids will be pushing for NHL ice time, somethings gotta give.

Absolutely. We will definitely have to cross that bridge if and when we get there.

What goalies? There are very few good goalies in the league. There may be some available but most are bad and making too much like Elvis.

Unfortunately for us, Calgary’s Markstrom and the Wild’s Marc Andre Fleury are playing well and drawing attention.

Not saying they are necessarily that much better than Allan ( and in Markstroms case, his big cap hit is prohibitive ) but suddenly more goalies are starting to become available

Fleury won't be available unless the Wild fall out of playoff contention. With Kaprizov back that might not happen. Calgary might dump players even if they are not out of contention. But there should be 5-7 teams looking for goaltenders if their GM's have a brain.

I'm not sure if I've said this before in this thread or if others have, but I do think Dylan Strome could be someone we target this summer.

Team friendly cap hit at $5mil / year until the conclusion of the 27/28 season. The Capitals may look to start getting younger by acquiring picks and prospects.

He's been mentioned a few times with mixed results.

Fleury will be highly sought after since he won the cup and has the same salary as Allen. Markstrom is not really a problem he has double the salary for one more season, unless Calgary retain half.

Going back to get the list, I made a mistake it wasn't the Athletic, but TVA Sport...anyhow.

The list of the latest (and oldest) available for trade goalie rumors:
- will-be-traded-this-year Gibson
- will-be-traded-this-year Vejmelka
- MAF
- Markström
- Elvis
- Allen
- and Boston might be tempted of trading one of Swayman/Ullmark

Note:
- No GM will trade their goalie while fighting for or in a playoff spot
- it's the 3rd year that Gibson and Vejmelka are on the trade rumor train (Gibson is probably super tired of it).

So really, there is Elvis and Allen.

Markstrom also has a NMC, he’s got total control on final destination - that doesn’t really impact the Habs re: trading a G
