I'd bet his preference will either location or relationship based...

Proximity to Ontario &/or warmer climates on the location front (Dallas? NYR? Carolina?)

Past teammates (Florida - Tkachuk/Bennett?)

I don't think it'll be Winnipeg, or even Vegas/Van. I get the sense that he likes being closer to family especially after spending his 20's out west.

I hope the list is 3-4 teams deep so that Hughes can have at least 2 serious bidders to get some competition btw offers.
I was thinking Toronto also. Where Monahan from Brampton

How about something like Monahan and Barron for Lundell and a second (Florida)?

Florida gets immediate help for their 3rd line, and gets a young RHD to cover for the possible lost of Montour in the offseason. We get a struggling but still oozing with potential C, and an extra second.

Value:

Monahan = first
Barron + first = Lundell + second
Florida may do it because most their defense are UFA this summer

It’s probably a second - but when cheap a$$ Treliving is offering a 6th he’s gonna tell Friedman it’s extortion.

But when you think about it, how many late 2nds even become NHLers? 20%?
And even if they do it’s likely years away after the GM is fired. A 2nd isn’t that crazy.
Apparently a 2nd w no retention of cap

Allen has career .924% save percentage in playoffs. Highest of any goalie rumoured available. He's good money goalie.
Worth repeating….again

Allen is a borderline elite G when limited to 36GP or less in a season. On a contending team capable of providing offensive margin he’ll be a very valuable asset

I think the Rangers would be a good fit for Matheson

Probably too late to get Lafreniere, but Monahan + Matheson for Lafreniere would be hilarious
Rangers are loaded on D:

Fox Trouba
K'Andre Miller E. Gustafsson

Braden Schneider Lindgren\

I guess they could use an upgrade on Gustafsson. But they wouldn't trade Laff to upgrade unstable Gustafssom for a little less unstable Matheson.

Why would the Avs trade Lehkonen?

Gallagher's contract is worse than Campbell's because it's 1.5M more AAV. if the plan is to use Gallagher, and not bury him in the minors like they should with Campbell, then it's 2.5M in capspace. Oilers don't need to spend 2.5M more in deadweight lcap space to add Brendan Gallagher.
I think Gallagher probably still better value than Campbell, he might not be part of the Mtl future but he is still a top 9 player, Campbell is a backup at best... You spending 1.5M$/2.5M$ for a that is playing and contributing.

Those of you who are expecting a 1st for Monahan are going to be very disappointed, especially since it seems like HuGo will trade him to the team that Monahan wants instead of prioritizing the best return possible.
A first is expensive but a late 1st isn't that big of a deal look at what team have paid for FW in the past, Coleman, Goodrow, Hagel, Foligno , Lekhonen, Eller, Tarasenko, Pageau, Burtuzzi, Stastny, Vermette, Ladd, Hanzal, Versteeg, Brassard, Erat...
None are perfect comparable with Monahan but most of them return a first, Monahan being a player that can play any where in the top 9, help PP and faceoff and most important and valuable part can fit on any team cap... If he isn't getting a 1st he will be getting similar value.
Even if KH has a agreement with Monahan I pretty sure he will have a 3-4 team list and if the return is similar Monahan might get is pick but he I doubt that return would be secondary to Monahna wishes also all the team looking to acquire him are contending and likely all team he want to go to so the return from a team that Monahan is interresed vs. not should be very similar

Sounds like Hughes driving a hard bargain for his players. Other GMs saying his ask for Allen is extortion. He's probably holding out for a first on Monahan. At least.

It'll be sad to see Monahan go. Just found out about the agreement. He fits like a glove. Perfect vet presence for our young team. Hope we can find another Perry/Monahan soon. Every team needs them.

Moving Savard accomplishes several things-
Gets the Habs a good return.
Opens up a space for younger players.
Makes the Habs worse in the short term which might help the rebuild on draft day.

I'm of the opinion that we cannot fonction only with young players, even if we rebuild. Especially on D. They have all sort of issues with two vets. They cannot lose one. Then it becomes a comedy of errors and nobody is developing.

In return, the LA Kings are looking at a trio of players from the Canadiens – goalie Jake Allen, forward Jake Evans, and defenseman Jordan Harris. The interesting twist here is the retention of 50% of Allen’s salary cap, a strategic move that could benefit the Kings significantly.

My opinion? Let's freaking go! He may be lazy but he's still talented and a big body on the first two lines. And we have nobody else. But I want some of his salary retained.

Dubois struggled his first half season in Winnipeg also. He's a lot better than this.

I would offer rights to Dvorak instead of Evans though.

Thoughts on Monahan to Colorado for Ryan Johansen + First round pick?

Colorado wants to get rid of Johansen contract and it gives us a warm body down the middle. He's got 1 more year at 4m.

He's a cap dump even at the reduced salary, so there would need to be more sweetener to make that reasonable for us imo

Add a '25 or '26 2nd & it's a deal

WTF? I just spent the last three days delirious, on the toilet with Salmonella poisoning and what did I miss? Habs get destroyed by the Sharks, Heinemann recalled and sent down, Roy called up, Habs want to commit grand larceny for Allen, Monahan on his way out soon and now a new PLD rumour. Did I miss anything else? Is Youppi pregnant!?
