Those of you who are expecting a 1st for Monahan are going to be very disappointed, especially since it seems like HuGo will trade him to the team that Monahan wants instead of prioritizing the best return possible.

I'll be ok with a second. Currently we only have Colorado's which is a really late 2nd.

2024 & 2025 2nd round picks.

It's why I don't think we will rush a trade, Hughes is probably waiting until deadline week to back down from asking for a 1st. Not to mention that we have zero depth right now as is. Dream scenario is getting our 2nd back from the Jets.

Savard is not getting traded this season. The RDs are not developed to the point they don't need his babysitting anymore and the Habs have zero NHL depth at the position.

Matheson is the one who is expendable and LD is where the team needs to open spots for the young players. But that's probably an off-season trade with his term.
Savard is well appreciated, plays a position of need and by many accounts is a great mentor.

Because his AAV is less than Matheson and he has one less year of contractual term than does Matheson, Savard is the more marketable asset. The trading deadline is usually not the time when players with 2 years remaining on their deals, get moved. And generally, not players whose contract is not expiring at the deadline.

The answer for me is that neither gets traded but if someone is desperate and will overpay, then all bets are off. Savard’s playoff experience may tilt the balance — all it takes is one team to get into drunken sailor mode.

Would San Jose do Vlasic for Gallagher? Would we? Vlasic's contract runs for one less year at +500k. We'd probably have to add to Gallagher, and we'd need to brain wash him to accept the deal.

He's slow, poor defensively, and below average at 5v5. He's a PP and faceoff specialist at this stage of his career. Maybe a conditional 1st if the team he gets traded to makes the conference finals, but there's essentially no chance he gets a 1st on his own.
We’ll see I guess. I think he could.

Yeah, no need to trade him now. One thing is I expect there to be more buyers then sellers this year, which bodes well for us.

“We have to go back to the off-season when the Canadian signed Sean Monahan . They had an agreement at that time that said he would be traded when the time was right to a competitive team or a team of his choice, nothing has changed on that. » -Darren Dreger

I am torn in trading him, like him as a player. But I sure hope Kent gets a good prospect for him. or a #1

A telling sign of ongoing discussions between the two teams emerged when Pagnotta revealed the Jets sent two scouts to yesterday's game at the Bell Centre. Although teams frequently send scouts across the league, the presence of more than one scout generally indicates serious interest in evaluating a player. Winnipeg has several promising young talents that could attract the interest of Kent Hughes. Additionally, they hold the Canadiens' second-round pick for the 2024 draft, a pick expected to be a top-40 selection based on the team's current ranking.
Would Winnipeg be a team of Monahan choice though? Most don't want to go there

I'd bet his preference will either location or relationship based...

Proximity to Ontario &/or warmer climates on the location front (Dallas? NYR? Carolina?)

Past teammates (Florida - Tkachuk/Bennett?)

I don't think it'll be Winnipeg, or even Vegas/Van. I get the sense that he likes being closer to family especially after spending his 20's out west.

I hope the list is 3-4 teams deep so that Hughes can have at least 2 serious bidders to get some competition btw offers.

Insider claimed it was a 2nd+ a few days ago, it is extortion...

I don't think Hughes care if Allen gets traded. Someone will pay for this extortion or won't.

Hughes is right though, almost every team in the race is one injury away from an Ahler or echler being their #2.

Allen would give you decent backup goaltending playing behind a decent D.

If Campbelk is in the minors, the Oilers save 1M on the cap. So if Gallagher is up versus cambell being down in the minors, then Gally is 2.5M more against the cap.
No, he's kinda right.

The Oilers save 1.15M actually with Campbell in the minors.
If they add Gally to their roster, he 23 player roster maximum still applies.
Another player has to go, so you can substract at least 775K.

The difference is 1.875M, at most.

How about something like Monahan and Barron for Lundell and a second (Florida)?

Florida gets immediate help for their 3rd line, and gets a young RHD to cover for the possible lost of Montour in the offseason. We get a struggling but still oozing with potential C, and an extra second.

Value:

Monahan = first
Barron + first = Lundell + second

There's zero chance the Panthers do this even without the 2nd

Friedman says one non-playoff team supposedly interested and involved in Perry situation as he looks to come back. Could it be…Habs?

A non-playoff team is half the NHL, so hard to say. I imagine it's a team in the States and one that is perhaps close to a playoff spot, so NJD, Pitt, Detroit or Nashville and St. Louis.

A cap tight team like the oilers doesn't necessarily need to carry a 23 man roster.

It’s probably a second - but when cheap a$$ Treliving is offering a 6th he’s gonna tell Friedman it’s extortion.

But when you think about it, how many late 2nds even become NHLers? 20%?
And even if they do it’s likely years away after the GM is fired. A 2nd isn’t that crazy.

I don’t think Hughes will make a lot of headway with Treliving, just based on Shanahan watching him like a Hawk and calling the shots.

If Treliving is cheap, what is Holland?
