Thoughts on Monahan to Colorado for Ryan Johansen + First round pick?

Colorado wants to get rid of Johansen contract and it gives us a warm body down the middle. He's got 1 more year at 4m.

Not bad. Add a half-decent prospect to Montreal.

We need more than a 1st. There's a reason why 3 organizations have given up on Johansen with one of them retaining half his salary. It'll be like watching Drouin/Hoffman all over again. Guy doesn't give a f***. I need something more to ease the pain of that.

They'd have to take back Dvorak, who would at least give them LTIR room this year, since he's out the season.

Something like, Monahan & Dvorak for Johansen, 2024 1st round draft pick & Calum Ritchie.

Dubois I am just not sold on. He's an enigma and has a big ticket. Bringing him to Montreal I see it as potential mistake which could curtail rebuild long term. So much scrutiny in Montreal high chance things go off rails.

I would deal Allen and Monahan elsewhere and take 2 second rounders or what we get. Then use the 10 million in caphit in other areas. PLD 8.5m +Allen retention

Allen is a borderline elite G when limited to 36GP or less in a season. On a contending team capable of providing offensive margin he’ll be a very valuable asset

Evans, Dvorak… I’m not big fans but c’mon… PLD is now in his prime and he’s showing us nothing on a strong team. He was arguably on a strong, or at least stronger than us team previously on the Jets. He was one of the go-to guys on the BJ’s.

I do think he’s more talented than he’s showing but work ethic, drive and turning on that “kill switch” is not nearly as consistent as it should be for a guy with his skills and salary.

Offense margin is a team that actually scores 3 or more goals…Habs have scored a total of 10G in Allen’s last 5-starts

You need to trade quality to receive quality. I would do Ghule for Gauthier 1 for 1 but Philadelphia would decline. Drysdale is superior to Ghule.

Ghule is becoming a bit overrated in here to be honest. He is a slightly more offensive Romanov. If Romanov got you 13th overall (in a weak draft) then Ghule should get you around 10th in a perceived stronger draft. Maybe 7-8th in a weaker draft.

I am not saying that Ghule ice performance is Superior to Gauthier btw. But the total package of what Ghule brings to this team is more important in my opinion the what Gauthier would have provided. Its a bit of a mooth point because Philly was after a Rigth handed Dmen so it would have been Reinbacher and not Ghule which is a position where we are to thin to trade.

Yep not sure what Hughes sees but if he's honest about not looking for ufas for 2 more seasons we aren't making the playoffs next year

I think this season with Newhook, Dach and Pinard would have deen different (significantly)!

His value may never be as high as right now (I know, it's still not much) and keeping him may not help as we are not in win mode. Beside, like you said this would free up a spot on LD which would allow to play hudson (if he sign) or Arber.

Down side is that you now have to rely on Barron on the PP (at least until Husdon come over)

Personnaly i do not think its much of a down side. I think he is more efficient on the PP then matheson. Is shot is almost always on net!! Which is a big plus.
