Wondering about Monohan. No doubt multiple teams are interested, so there is bidding going on. Also leaked was the Habs interested in extending Monohan, which may be true or it may be Hughes leaking a false rumour to help trade value. Hughes likes getting it done earlier than later, and if we aren't signing Monohan I'm guessing he won't let it go until the last minute to trade him.

Habs haven't leaked shit. HuGo do not run a leaky boat like MB was. A few local media guys wants the Habs to extend Monahan again and are letting their opinions be known as speculations. It was the same thing last season and Monahan wasn't re-signed until June.

Monahan is 100% getting moved unless teams aren't offering anything for him.

Bergevin was a lot of things, but running a leaky boat he did not.

Monahan is ideal fit for several cup contending teams. A big 50 point center who is good on faceoffs.

Hughes is playing the balancing act. Hang onto last hour, get maximum value. Similar to Chiarot trade.

I would be happy either way with Monahan.

I like the guy and think he would be a solid influence on our young guns.

But, on the other hand, he has immense value on the trade market at this point. We could get something pretty sweet in return for him as is.

Do you guys see any trade opportunities with the Jets? It sounds like they want to be buys at the deadline.

They will have just under 5 million available at the TDL. They have a full slate of draft picks coming up.

There cupboards are pretty full with young talent. Barlow, Lambert, McGroarty, Lucius waiting in the wings.

Is there a fit for Monahan? Savard? Could we possibly off load Gally if we take a contract back?

They seem like prime trade partners.

We are going to die with Gallagher lol Monahan and Savard have value and I would certainly trade both if it possible and the return is valuable.

He's an absolute must trade imo. His body is a ticking time bomb and waiting to fall apart. If we get a reasonable offer, we should take it and run.

Nobody wants Gallagher.

You're not getting those prospects for those players.

Maybe if you deal both and retain in Savard you might get one, but that's iffy

Never said we are getting those guys. Threw out there, what their depth looks like and what we are looking to offload.

I am thinking we could pry a draft pick from them though. Perhaps even a late first for Monahan.

Timmins would tell everything to anyone who asked around ice rinks. He was the biggest hole on the ship...

Basu wrote a 2022 draft prospect article with a section where you could tell he was pissed to not be allowed in the loop anymore after Hughes took office.

Lebrun went from #1 legit Habs insider under MB to admitting having to ask his sources in other teams to try to know what is going on inside the Habs a few months ago.

And that "Habs want too re-sign Monahan" rumor actually started with "Monahan seems to like it here, I [media dude] think the Habs should re-sign him" a few weeks back. It has nothing to do with Hughes trying to increase his value via the media that most people outside the Province aren't reading...

I agree to a point.

I am of the firm mind that enough draft picks , habs need young talent now. That being said a 1st round pick is hard to turn down..

but long and short.. I want prospects, to get scoring.

Could MTL get Cole P out of the peg? Sean M + ??

Admittedly I haven't seen much of the Jets this year, but all reports on Perfetti is that he is looking every bit of what he was touted in junior to be. A top 6 winger with offence.

I agree that we have enough draft picks and it is time to turn those into something.

I would do something like Monahan + Engtrom/Norlinder + 2026 Habs 1st (top 10 protection) for Perfetti.

Steep price for sure, but Winnipeg would no doubt take no less.

Took a gander over on the Jets board. They seem to be batting around the idea of Monahan for our 2nd back. I would do it. That 2nd will be in the 36-40 range. I would then try to use our 2nds to once again pounce on a player that needs a change of scenery or move up. We are in the same boat next year with 2 x 2nds.

It is time to consolidate some of those picks for better picks/prospects.

My opinion, any deal with Winnipeg will exclude Perfetti, McGroarty, Lambert, Luciuz, and Barlow.

Jets aren't going to give up any of their 1st round prospects for Monahan. And Perfetti is the least likely they will trade out of all of them since he's there now and contributing to their success.

Monahan can definitely help them, but he'd be more of a depth addition. If they're to give up any of these prospects, it would be for a game breaker.

What r HuGo going to do with that 2nd rounder? Shove it up their asses? Given where the Habs stand presently as a team that pick serves very little value

Low probability historically that pick turns into an NHL regular & no team will offer a needed asset for that pick

Habs have reached a point this deadline where moves will need to involve picks & prospects potentially with vets to acquire assets to bolster forward position

Even if HuGo acquire 1st rounders they will be 20+ and no team work give up a Dach or Newhook for a 1st rounder past midpoint

Yup - Jets are like the Expos their only hope to survive is by keeping and growing young (re: cheaper) players since no one wants to willing sign there. They will not trade young assets unless forced to like Laine & PLD
