I do think a second for Allen might be reasonable. Hughes is looking for a first but if teams are willing to add a good prospect, HuGo will pull the trigger. A second and prospect for Allen is more than a reasonable return. I expect another dull trade deadline. Armia, Anderson and Gally are unmovable. Mony can get another second. That's it, really.

If Hughes could get a 2nd and a prospect for Allen, he deserves a bronze statue. I don't think he'd get anywhere near that value myself.

Habs sit at 46 contracts vs 50 limit, there’s a batch of players that will be signed to NHL contracts over next few months: Tuch, Redenbacher, Beck, potentially Engstrom off the top of my head.

They’ve had a bunch of other picks over last two drafts and some more will need contracts over next 1-2 years. I.e combine Allen/Dvorak/Savard w pick and/or prospect to acquire asset

I fully expect HuGo to not only start trading picks but also look for NHL ready assets vs picks this coming deadline

I heard a pod cast today
Picks are great by selling assets, but this team needs talent now
They should rather focus on drafting well and development. Dach and Newhook are already afflicted by injuries so early in their career. Slaf, well, is just another Rucinsky in the making.

According to Friedman, the Hurricanes, who have explored avenues and started serious discussions with Hughes and the Habs, could consider trading Michael Bunting for a goalie.

Definitely don't want Bunting. His contract will not age well. Plus the last thing this team needs is a shit dusturber that doesn't fight on a team that has trouble protecting its players. Huge pass.

Never heard him say they offered Bunting to the Habs for a goalie, nor did I hear they were in deep talks about a goalie...
The link I posted didn't mention any player's name, but it did name the Devils, Canes and two other teams who have been in constant contact with Hughesy

Kulak got a second. I mean he was nowhere near being worth that. Hoffman + Pitlick got a second too. HuGo is more talented in selling bums than BargainBin, who was looking for bargains.
KH had to take Petry to get rid of Hoffman.
Taking on the extra year of Petry's contract at 4.7M + DeSmith got him the 2nd.

That's not the point. Clearly, HuGo has demonstrated that he's a fine negotiator. That extra year of Petry is nothing for the Habs and he got more picks for DeSmith and Petry. Also, Légaré was a good addition for Laval. They have a fine draft class for 2025.

Without going all RD & C like the Kings we are indeed lacking C.

Rocket needs Mitchell Stephens back so they have a shot at making the playoffs.

Kulak was a great trade.

Pitlick and Hoffman did not get a second. Taking Petry and deSmith off PIT's hands got the second in addition to the Hoffman dump (Pitlick was and is replacement level / zero value either way).

I overvalued Petry at first, but now I am more certain that Hughes' mistake was undervaluing deSmith. Assuming Hughes was trying to compete and not purposely lose, our best bet in nets was Monty and Casey. We even coul;d have kept Primeau as insurance until at least one of the two top guys extended. We didn't need the 3rd that much that we needed to carry Pearson this year. And Allen got overvalued and overcoddled.

Hoffman contract done after this season. Habs could send him down. Or home. Lol which saved 1.2 million. Making Hoffman 3.3 million caphit. Petry 2.7 million.

Habs 10 million under cap. There's no need to take Petry on to move Hoffman. Now, another year of Petry at 2.7m. For a 2nd. That's what trade was about. But we won't spend our caproom anyway so 2.7m worth a 2nd.

You don't have to be cap compliant at camp. Just get full Price 10.5m caphit back when he goes on LTIR start every year if we are. But if don't spend the 10m, it's no advantage to team.
