EDM fans should already be revolting given how the management of their team is squandering the prime years of its offensive megastars.

But hey, what’s one more disappointment to them anyways.
What can they do? They have zero tradeable assets. Their farm is empty. McDavid prevents them from finishing low. He's out of the lineup and they're pacing for a bottom 2 finish. When he comes back they'll make the playoffs on his back. They're also the second least desirable market to go to in the league after Winnipeg so they have to overpay guys on the back half of their prime. Hyman for example is a 50 point guy playing with Matthews and Marner, becomes an 80 point player with McDavid, and is probably in reality a 30 point guy closer to Josh Anderson. They have to take warts like Evander Kane to even field a team.

Kent Hughes destroyed Holland with the Nurse contract. Ekholm clearly has no miles left. Kulak couldn't crack our starting roster until the year we finished last in the league and is playing significant minutes there as they don't have a real top pairing so all three pairings get time. Bouchard is a PP merchant. Replace McDavid and Draisatl with Suzuki and Caufield and their roster is infinitely worse than ours. Hell replace them with Matthews and Marner and they're still not a playoff team. McDavid is Carey Pricing them.

Beginning in 2017, Edmonton should have traded 1st rounders every year for guys like Newhook and Dach instead of accumulating some Yamamoto types.

Now, there is probably nothing that Edmonton could do.

That’s the thing with Allen.

He plays well, steals games and Hughes may want to hold back on trading him.

He does poorly and/or starts getting ailments due to his inability to handle the workload of a no. 1 and interest wanes or offers are not palatable.

The first scenario is exactly when Hughes should be fielding offers.

Giving away an asset is not an option either. It’s been 9 games, lots can happen.

Why worry about it, we’re not the only team doing this.

I agree that we don't want to give away an asset for nothing...

But that includes holding on too long.

Are there other teams holding on to a U25 goalie while playing him 1/10 games?

Can't be good for a younger goalie to sit so much, at a certain point it's bound to diminish both the potential return and the player's progress/development.

Hopefully Hughes finds the deal he's looking for this month, or before the holiday trade freeze at the latest.

I dont know if Draisaitl could become available?

Oilers season is in shambles. They suck and the atmosphere around the team is negative. Draisaitl will enter the last year of his contract.

If the Oilers ends up with a top 10 pick and the negotiations goes nowhere around the draft/UFA, could he become available ?

What could we give for?

Anything would be on the table for me except for Suzuki, Caufield and Guhle.

Slafkovsky, Dach, Hutson, all 3x 1st in the next two years, Mailloux, Reinbacher etc... we would certainly have the pieces and the cap space to make it work.

Assumig an Eichel-like package...

Slafkovsky, Hutson, 2024 1st pick (exemple its 10OV). Do we do it for Draisaitl???

Dach - Reinbacher - 2024 1st ?

Its quite the price to pay but it would bring our team to a whole other level.
No one should be untouchable in a trade for Draisaitl. He's miles above any player we have/hope to have. Teams will be rushing out the gates to make offers and one up one another.

Any 3 piece package we can offer, at least two should be replaceable to an extent with our in-house prospect depth + Draisaitl being an upgrade on any one of those pieces.

Exactly , why people stress about . We have no cap not roster issues . They can be patient

I don’t know what kind of return Hughes is looking for. At the start of the season, there were 4 other teams with 3 goalies on their NHL roster but don’t know what happened since.

Clearly, all of them are acutely aware that they risk losing a young goalie to waivers and did as we did, pending a resolution.

We aren't the only team carrying 3 goalies.

Buyers are waiting for the sellers to panic. But the sellers have every reason to wait out teams without goaltending, a season can slip away fast.

how much can Allen or Primeau be worth ? will be lucky to get a 3rd for either of them

Primeau? Little to nothing.

Allen? Maybe a 2nd round pick at best. Just need the right level of desperation, but in all likelihood you'd be getting a lot more back for Allen cause if you are Edmonton, you have to offload Campbell's contract.. which means you are paying for the goalie and giving a lot to get out from under that.

do we really want Campbell tho he still has 4 years left @ 5mill thats horrible the offer would need to be crazy good

Holloway would be someone i would target in a trade.

-Stuck in bottom 6 role in Edmonton
-haven’t break out yet.
-Known chemistry with Caufield.
-Big body
-If he breaks out, could be the solution next to Caufield and Suzuki.

Now, we just need to find what Edmonton would be looking for.

Not a bad idea , what players could we swap for him? Their salary cap is oof

Its going to be an hugly contract that only big time contenders should contemplate if he's their only missing piece. You really want to be on the hook for the contract that will run him from 30-37 years old at 14M cap hit ?
Yes please.

By then, Caufield and Suzuki contracts will be finished, so will our window to the cup.

If we sign Draisitl in 2025, he might make us instant contenders. I have confidence in the way our D is being builded. Hutson, Reinbacher, Beck, Roy and Mailloux (and maybe our early 1st this next draft) might enter the lineup at about the same time.

They only negative is you might note be able to resign Suzuki after his actual contract is up.

But we would have 5 years of :

Draisitl
Caufield
Suzuki
Dach
Slafkovski
Roy
2025 1st
Newhook
Beck

Guhle
Reinbacher
Hutson
Mailloux
Barron
Xhekaj

You only need to figure out a way to get a solid G and you have a contender imo.
