Its going to be an hugly contract that only big time contenders should contemplate if he's their only missing piece. You really want to be on the hook for the contract that will run him from 30-37 years old at 14M cap hit ?
He's not going to be $14M for the same reason Nylander is nit going to get $10M.. quite frankly no player (save McDavid) is worth more than $10M.
GMs have finally figured out that hockey stars are not NBA stars, NFL QBs, or MLB stars. Sure they are valuable to any team, but with injuries aplenty and maybe on the ice 1/3 of the game, building a top 6 full of $8M players is much wiser.
They key is to make a run while ~2 young stars are on their RFA contracts.

A first line forward to play on first line. A top offensive player will make Suzuki and Caufield a notch or two better.

RHP and Anderson are good players but they are pulling down our top line a smidgen.

NFL and MLB players only play a maximum of half of a game too. The only reason NHL stars are paid less than their counterparts in other leagues is because of the Salary Cap and Bettman running the worst multi-billion dollar sports organization in the world.

I'd still like to see if Slaf can benefit from playing with Suzuki and Caufield and if they can benefit from his tools (size, shot, hustle).

I dont know if Draisaitl could become available?

Oilers season is in shambles. They suck and the atmosphere around the team is negative. Draisaitl will enter the last year of his contract.

If the Oilers ends up with a top 10 pick and the negotiations goes nowhere around the draft/UFA, could he become available ?

What could we give for?

Anything would be on the table for me except for Suzuki, Caufield and Guhle.

Slafkovsky, Dach, Hutson, all 3x 1st in the next two years, Mailloux, Reinbacher etc... we would certainly have the pieces and the cap space to make it work.

Assumig an Eichel-like package...

Slafkovsky, Hutson, 2024 1st pick (exemple its 10OV). Do we do it for Draisaitl???

Dach - Reinbacher - 2024 1st ?

Its quite the price to pay but it would bring our team to a whole other level.

Draisaitl - Suzuki - Beck - Evans as a C-line? Better than with Dach in there, even if he keeps improving.

Habs win because they get the best player in the deal, but there are only many years left to burn with Draisaitl and I'm not sure he would sign an extension with the Habs to not be an immediate contender?

I'm more concerned about giving up Reinbacher because we are so thin on the right side.

The ideal bite from EDM would be Dach + Hutson + 1st 2024.

Not that Hutson won't be all that (definitely has elite player potential),but having a top-two of Guhle - Reinbacher, even if you spread them out for greater effect would be cornerstone to a contending team's lineup.

Matheson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Mailloux/Barron
Xhekaj - Barron/Mailloux/Engstrom/Konyushkov

I'd sacrifice Dach + Hutson + a 1st in 2024 for Draisaitl this offseason. That would leave Draisaitl as a 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, and 37 year old for the Habs, assuming an 8-year extension after the player's final year in his current contract.

However, I still think the Habs only grow into legitimate contenders once a few youngsters and prospects have truly matured.

With nothing else changing and just waiting on the youngsters to progress in their development, I still don't see thehxbs being fearsome contenders (even with Draisaitl) until 2027-2028.

That year, Draisaitl would be 32, Suzuki would be 28, as would RHP, Caufield would be 26, Newhook would also be 26, Roy would be 24, Beck and Slafkovsky would be 23...

Matheson would be 33, Xhekaj would be 26, Guhle and Barron would be 25, Mailloux would be 24, Reinbacher would be 23...

Maybe, with all the draft capital the Habs have -- and might even add to -- in 2025, Hughes can also add another elite talent and speed the process along to 2026-2027?

Newhook (26) - Draisaitl (31) - Elite Add-On in 2025 (28?)
Caufield (26) - Suzuki(27) - Roy (23)
Slafkovsky (22) - Beck (22) - Heineman (24)
RHP (27) - Evans (31) - Ylonen (27)

Matheson (32) - Reinbacher (22)
Guhle(24) - Mailloux (23)
Xhekaj (25) - Barron (24)

I know, Slafkovsky as the 3rd line LW --The Horror, The Horror!

He'd still be only 22 in 2026-2027, with room to grow...

I don't see EDM trading Draisaltl. They would only make McDavid angry and lose him in the future. Leon also has a M-NTC. Pretty sure Montreal is not on his list of team. We would also be paying him 13m until he turn 38 years old.

Oilers best move is to go all in, offer Draisatl 14*8 and keep trying to win with him. If they want to make a trade with the Habs, they should offer generous deals for players they might benefit from: Newhook, Matheson, etc.

But if they're willing to trade Draisatl?

Sure, Slafkovsky, 2024 1st top-3 protected, and Mailloux.

They can get way more than that for Drai lmfao

His NHL career is pretty much over. He will be 34 in January. He retire in 2024 or goes to Europe next season.
No he will get a 2 year league minimum extension to hang out with Caufield on the weekends and keep Hughes company in the press box

EDM fans should already be revolting given how the management of their team is squandering the prime years of its offensive megastars.

But hey, what’s one more disappointment to them anyways.
Tank Obsessives would be wise to learn
