Usually I'm indifferent however this year unless it's some unforeseen difference maker, I kind of hope the Jets keep their 1st. Rakell is intriguing, maybe move a 1st for him if they view him as a surefire Center. Other than him I'm not keen on most the name at a 1st+ price tag. Keep it and maybe see what the off season offers for trade acquisitions.
Rakell could slot in with Lowry and Niederreiter, making that line a bigger offensive threat. Appleton gets pushed down to the 4th/extra. A 1st and add Lucius as sweetener.

Then deal Heinola and a 4th or 5th to the Sharks for Ferraro.

Other names I’d be looking at as alternatives are Frederic, Donato, McLeod and Maatta.

Do you really think the Sharks would accept that for Ferraro?
Maata can stay where he is...slow, soft and inconsistent.
A 1st and a former first round pick for somebody that's going to play on our third line?
We need a 2C and another right hand defenseman. Stanley isn't going anywhere.

Namestnikov just doesn't get credit. First goal Jets score on Blues was an odd man rush set up by Namestnikov against good players. Strong d-zone play.

First good scoring chance tonight comes from a Vlad shot block setting up another odd man rush. That the players didn't capitalize on. He was all around the net. Driving possession.

I don't know if I want to disrupt that chemistry, it would have to be for a guy who can defend and carry the middle of the ice like Vlad.

There's still the Lowry-Ehlers option too. Lowry just grinds like nobody else. Finishes checks. I feel like Appleton is sucking the offense out of Lowry's line right now. And Nino too.
Target Rakell. Full court press. Convince him to join the top team in the league. He’d compliment Lowry and Niederreiter really well and wouldn’t look out of place bumped up to the 2nd line if injuries occur.

If we can't upgrade 2C then I want to upgrade 3RW and move Appleton to the 4th Line. Palmieri would be my target. Nothing against Appleton he is a fine 3rd line player on a traditional Stanley cup contender that has a ton of firepower in its top 6 but without significantly upgrading the 2nd line we will need the 3rd line to score more in April, May, and June. To me Palmieri is an ideal complement for Nino/Lowry. Palmieri has very similar speed to Appleton but has a way better shot which that line clearly needs.I don't have the data on forechecking nor do i get to watch a lot of islander games but I would have to think that is one of his strengths based on how he played vs. the Jets a couple of weeks ago.

Yes I know he has a trade protection and that will always be a caveat with our Jets but man he fits the culture right now.

Referring to Lucius as a former 1st but not Heinola?

Realistically, the Jets first is almost a 2nd

If the Jets are fortunate enough to go on a long playoff run, there will be injuries. Don’t like Rakell on line 3, he can play on the 2nd when it eventually goes cold.

There aren’t many affordable RHD that can actually play that are available and don’t have trade protection so in that case, you get the best defenseman possible even if he’s a LHD. If your sole focus is on RHD, you’ll end up with Risto, Schenn or Desharnais
