Apparently Canucks want to add to please Hughes and Pete.

They need D, left D precisely. The match is made in heaven.

Matheson
Harris
Vs
Myers (6m for 1 year)
Lekkerimaki/brz
Silovs
2nd rounder

Myers is terrible but hes a stop gap.

BRZ is destroying the OHL as a D and hes a RD. Lekkerimaki is scoring goals like theres no tomorrow in the SHL, hed look great as the secondary triggerman to Cole.

Canucks never do that.

GMs value vets like Monahan,Savard and Pearson for a playoffs run so probably around 2nd/3rd round picks for them

Could be wrong but I don't see Anderson or Dvorak having any value

I wouldn’t group Anderson with Dvorak. I’d agree with you on Dvorak but it was reported that someone offered a 1st rounder for Anderson. Think it was LeBrun

Monahan and Anderson have good value if the circumstance plays out. The others have meh value.

Should we offer Stamkos a contract at the end of the year? We need skills upfront and obviously we are not drafting them. As long as it's not too nuts contract-wise. I could see Chicago being a taker for him given the cap space.

Lekkerimakki ,another midget, by NHL standards at 5'10", 171 lbs, but, if he's like Kane, who cares. SLAFKOVSKY - DACH - LEKKERIMAKI could be quiet an interesting line.

Next Year, very short term:

Caufield - Suzuki - Roy
Slafkovsky - Dach - Lekkerimaki
RHP- Newhook- Anderson
Ylonen - Dvorak - Heineman
Evans, Gallagher, Pezzetta

Guhle - Barron
Xhekaj - Kovacevic
Trudeau - Savard
Myers

The 2025 offseason should give a chance for Hughes to make a big splash with all the trade chips at his disposal, including -- for now, because more early round picks will be added-- two first rounders, two second rounders and two third rounders, plus some good prospects that won't be kept by the Habs.

I could see him package picks, veterans and prospects (Mailloux?) big time for another elite winger, including Anderson and Dvorak, making some more Cap space for added youngsters value:

Elite winger -Dach - Lekkerimaki
Slafkovsky - Suzuki- Caufield
Newhook - Beck - Roy
RHP - Davidson - Heineman

Guhle - Reinbacher
Hutson - Engstrom
Xhekaj - Barron
Kovacevic

With the news about Backstrom today, I wonder what direction the Caps will take...

A full rebuild/retool makes the most sense, but the allure of keeping Ovie in the hopes he breaks the goal scoring record may be just too big...

Could Hughes pry a 1st from them for Dvorak?
They are going to be a lottery team. Top 5 pick at least I think. There’s no way they trade that pick for Dvo of all people imo.

I like the way Sam Reinhart from the panthers plays, got jam and a UFA but will probably be looking for a handsome contract.

For Kent to sign ufa's next year (if he does) the habs need to show real promise, show they have turned the corner.
this year is not showing that yet.

Top UFA's don't sign with non contending teams best Montreal can hop for is 4th liners like Carrier and Blais.

with the cap going up, if he leaves Tampa it will likely be for an absolutely massive "nuts" contract...

the limited UFA pool + extra cap space to spend is going to see some GMs backing up the brinks truck to any decent talent available & i can't see Stamkos taking anything less than market premium if he's going to leave his long-time home.

certainly would welcome the habs making a pitch, and we have the cap room to be competitive, but i wouldn't want to see us outbid the market on any premium UFA this summer because of the anomalous cap increase situation

perhaps... though adding a protection clause could get them biting... i'd go as far as top-12 protected provided the alternative is their unprotected '25 first

i don't see them standing pat, though i do see them pivoting to selling off assets vs making a push to hit the playoffs, all depends on how willing Leonsis is to allow the re-tool/re-build that looks like the more reasonable approach vs trying to run it back before Ovie retires.

Hello from the Canucks board!

Vancouver’s priority for upgrading the blue line is adding a RD—not a LD.

Our LD depth has not been an issue and we have plenty of bottom-pairing depth in the AHL too. It’s our RD where the team needs to add another top-four defenseman to shuffle everyone else down the org chart:

LD depth: Hughes, Cole, Soucy, Wolanin, Brisebois, Hirose)
RD depth: Hronek, Friedman, Myers, Juulsen, McWard

I do think the Canucks could trade Lekkerimaki or Brzustewicz or future 1sts if they try and significantly upgrade their roster. The modus operandi of Allvin/Rutherford seems to be that we are going for it. Remains to be seen if that is a good idea.

Both prospects have elevated their stock significantly compared to where each player was rated a year ago and sometimes teams decide to sell high in that scenario.

One final thought around Matheson… the Canucks have clearly put a ton of work into fixing the locker-room issues. They’ve churned through coaches and traded away their captain to fix the chemistry. It looks like these efforts are finally showing a return this season. They seem like they are having fun, playing with passion, and are bought into the systems that Rick Tocchet is implementing.

I can’t imagine the Canucks would risk those good vibes by bringing in a defenseman (Matheson) who injured Pettersson on a dirty slew-foot years ago in a VAN/FLA match. Maybe it’s water under the bridge, but maybe it isn’t—and that’s probably just an issue that this team should avoid considering where they are coming from.

Besides adding a top-four RD—most Vancouver fans assume that they also want to get bigger on the wing. Allvin/Rutherford seem to have a bias against small forwards like Garland—or maybe it’s that the team simply has too many of them. I think they would also like to upgrade their 3C from Pius Suter if they have the opportunity.
