The poster proposed way too many assets going to Tampa.

Fair would be Allen and one asset, say the Calgary first, in exchange for Cirelli with $1,000,000 retained.

I think the Bolts would find many offers beating that...

Cirelli would be a great fit with Dach/Suzuki up the middle long term. But with Newhook perhaps settling in at C & Beck in the pipeline, I'd agree that it would be better to keep the assets it would cost for Cirelli and use them to upgrade elsewhere

The comaparison to Kakko in the article is stupid. Kakko has had a chance to playo n a scoring line because there was only 1 rw in front of him. Lafreniere is behnd 2 lw so he doesn't play with vets and gets no PP time.
Unless Laf is an upgrade over what we have now, he'll be playing 3rd line.

Agreed, article also calls Kakko a 2nd round pick. Rangers are not going to trade Laf for peanuts now as they have him signed, everyone else signed and are comfortably under the cap. Maybe next summer. If I am the Rangers I wait and see what he gives me this year. If he shows significant progress i keep him, if not maybe I move him in a deal for maybe a similar under performing centre. Rangers have lots of centres but really could use a no 2 centre.

Maybe they move him at the deadline in a deal for that centre. what pending UFA centres are available potentially at this deadline on teams who may miss play-offs
Scheifle, Lindholm, Pettersson as a UFA though not sure how they could afford to extend him

The reason why the Rangers want to get rid of Laf is that he isn't very good.

Forget he was a 1OA, he's generic 3rd liner now.
He might be or he might have lost confidence under Gallant. But he would have to come relatively cheaply. 2nd round pick(s) and/or prospects

I would absolutely take a flyer on Laf if it wasn't for the fact that our team is already developping Dach and Newhook as reclamation projects that need offensive opportunities.

Without even counting prospects like Heineman/Roy/Beck/RHP/Ylo, who are ready or on the cusp of a top 9 role.

We just have too many guys to evaluate as is.

The acquisition the habs need is a prime star fwd, not another reclamation project.

Dach has already successfully reached a point at which he is the most dominant center on the team even if his development stalls out at this juncture; that project is complete, though it's highly unlikely that his growth as a player has not. Newhook is a radically different case, but the former player isn't impeding anyone in the context of a reclamation project, at least.

They gonna try to get more from us because of the french thing.

I feel like there's always an excuse ready when the Habs aren't the team to pull the trigger.

Wow Lafreniere has pretty good production for a 21 year old playing third line minutes as a generic third liner.

Hughes should use him being french to lower the cost. Just say that there will more pressure on him in Montreal than anywhere else so the risk is higher.

if the cost for Laf is right, why not. He’ll have a ton of pressure though, especially that he not coming in already as a productive player.

It could be a good opportunity but it could turn sour very very fast.

Lafreniere could be Dach’s triggerman and elevate that into a very dominant line. Very low risk, high reward gamble IMO. Lafreniere is a natural goal scorer, just needs the opportunity and a centre to give him the biscuit. Dach is that guy.

Unless he comes very cheap I would stay away from him. He hasn't had success in the NHL because he skates slow, has a slow release, and processes the game slow
