Somebody randomly quoted an old post I made in that thread not that long ago saying that contract was going to be a disaster in two years time. Lol I saw it coming a mile away and I know I couldn’t have been the only one.
Read the thread day it was announced. You all loved it

The Rangers might not want a ton back at this point, honestly. It's not quite an addition by subtraction situation, but it's getting close enough to that for rock and roll. A high B prospect and a decent pick might do it.

What would they even need from us in a trade?

Rangers are deep on defence and we have only dman to trade.
The comaparison to Kakko in the article is stupid. Kakko has had a chance to playo n a scoring line because there was only 1 rw in front of him. Lafreniere is behnd 2 lw so he doesn't play with vets and gets no PP time.

I think he's saying that they send a cap dump + laf for picks.

My bad, you’re right.

But he won’t get traded for picks only, i think. They would want help now in return. And we only have dman to trade lol

Perhaps it's as simple as Laf for draft collateral.

'24 Habs 3rd & '25 pens 2nd,
plus conditional '25 3rd if Laf hits 45pts this year, or '25 2nd if he hits 55pts

2nd & 3rd for him as he is works well enough for us, Drury gets the additional asset to buffer risk of Laf breaking out this year

Throw him on the 1st line & see what he does with CC & Suzuki... he has the tools to complement them really well if he can put it all together

CC Suzuki Laf
Slaf Dach Monahan
Anderson Newhook RHP
Armia Evans Gally
Pearson/Ylonen/Pez

Would be a fun experiment with some pretty amazing upside if Slaf/Dach/Laf/Newhook all start sniffing at their high end potential

I would still try and get Cirelli out of Tampa, using a combo of

Montembeault/Allen (retained) + Beck + Harris/Mailloux + CGY 1st/2nds
Cirelli is a 26 year old who averages 17 goals per 80 games and is on a brand new 8 year deal at $6.25M per year. Not sure I would have paid him that as a UFA, so I'd DEFINITELY not give up multiple assets for him in addition.

Come on now if Cirelli comes in he is immediately our 3rd best forward behind Caufield and Suzuki, maybe 4th if Dach improves, and his contract ends when he is 33 years old.

He is not a top scorer but think Danault level impact on the defensive game. He would make us way harder to play against.

Apart from the fact I don't see TB trading straight away a guy they just reupped for 8 years, I don't like the idea of committing significant assets in both trade and capspace until we've landed another big piece (at least Suzuki/CC caliber), whether through trade or draft.

Cirelli is a piece of the ¨fine tuning" variety to me.

The poster proposed way too many assets going to Tampa.

Fair would be Allen and one asset, say the Calgary first, in exchange for Cirelli with $1,000,000 retained.
